Some surprising results indicated within. The percentages related to the totality of numismatic items do not appear as a good forecast for the U.S. Mint.
I agree, the trend certainly is downward year by year for most of the sets and even the eagles. My own opinion is that the Mint is producing far, far too many items, thus diluting collector demand. But nobody there wants to hear that.
How come the mint website says a sellout of the Boystown UNC Gold which has a mintage limit of 50K but their sold numbers are at 3K? and when are they gonna stop selling the centennial gold from 2016?
Definitely far too many items from the Mint – and now they want to ramp up their medal program big time. The Mint numismatic division is self funding so I’m sure they contracted a consulting firm to try to boost sales. I remember the days when all they sold were the proof and mint sets. I was excited about the rekindling of the commem program and ordered the 83 Olympics set and remember waiting nearly a year before I received it – lol. The times they are a changing….
Yes Mike, certainly agree with the synopsis you provided. In fact, Remington Arms has employed the same tactics on December 19, 2017 as implementing, I believe three (3) ad or consulting firms with hopes of trying to move the merchandise. I was not aware that the Mint numismatic division was self-funding. Apparently, things are far worse than what we can see.
* We would imagine with the influx of more people, the U.S. Mint may introduce all options of coins, whereas to appease the masses, “Not” the ‘collectors’.
I just hope they don’t start churning out rediculous coins like Canada and Australia. Can you say Franklin mint??
