There’s not a lot to talk about in the latest round of sales figures from the United States Mint. Maybe we’ll see some pop in next week’s report as a result of all the 2017 commemoratives going off-sale today.
In looking over the Mint’s last six weekly sales reports, there hasn’t been many ranking changes across its most popular products — especially those sitting in the top five spots. And flagship products have appeared in the same order in each report — the 2017 Proof Set, the 2017 Silver Proof Set, the 2017-W Proof Silver Eagle, and the 2017 Mint Set.
Looking back further, it’s actually surprising to see the 2017-W Silver Eagle trailing both sets (in weekly gains) through most of the year.
Weekly U.S. Mint Top Sellers

Also, seven products saw their sales total reduced compared to 10 previously. Three dropped by more than typical amounts:
- the 2017-P Ellis Island 5-Ounce Coin by 82 to 14,837,
- the 2017-W Proof Gold Buffalo by 134 to 15,184 and
- the 2017 ABQ Quarters Circulating Set by 893 to 17,022.

Visit the United States Mint website at http://catalog.usmint.gov for product information.
As I’ve said before, there are far too many products. This dilutes demand for everything. But anybody notice that the stalwarts, the mint and proof sets, are consistently dropping year by year? That does not bode well for widespread interest in the hobby.
Interestingly, the Rogers P Puck is now below (well, at least for this week) the 2012-P Hawaii Volcanoes of 14,863 –
If it holds, that will mix things up a bit in the P pucker world, and add a little puckerfactor to Volcano owners while possiblely generating a little pucker buzz.
Will be intriguing to see if Volcanoes price points are pressured, and if so, how much.
Interesting that both Ford and Nixon FS Unc gold increased by the same large quantity 237 ..
Appears someone down at HQ transposed the wrong data entry between the Ford and Nixon FS UNC’s – one of those girl’s sets will be returned en masse on 29 December.., guaranteed
How low will some dealers go on the wheel of ‘low mintage wonders’ fortune
Anyone know or care to speculate why that majestic Buffalo wants to hang out in the stable and not come out to play?
The Mint has made a conscience effort to pull offerings abruptly when they go CU or purposefully declaring them SO.., yet ole Black Diamond is just holed up for now..,
If the Sergeant Jasper, Animal Crackers, and the Bob Ross P pucks don’t sell out soon.., you may be buying a picture of rocks as the pictured rocks pucker likely won’t be around long..,
I bet 2018 will be the year of very controlled phase striking of numismatics, like what we’ve observed with the mint only striking less than 3,000 $5 UNC BT’s, just a hunch
For only $9.95, it might be a good idea to throw a few of these back for future generations, with only 20,000 minted & 10,752 sold, the Teddy Roosevelt 2013 Presidential Discovery Set, it’s really a 11 page book with a $1.00 unc teddy coin, but it’s a U*S* Mint product, grand kids can cash them in for college books or something. Also with 45,000 minted and 9,472 sold & going off the shelf soon it say’s is the ”2014 Coin Discovery Set” with a proof, unc, & cric, 2014 1/2$ with some other stuff, but that’s going for $24.95… Read more »
RE: those unc. spouses Nixon & Ford – they had (HAD) to be higher than
unc. 1886 ish FDR spouse. Sad thing is that they are NOT in the top 20 presidents. If so down the road they may be really rare as I kinda discounted the real sale of those coins at over $200,000 each. Double sadly, the whole set is absolutely the lowest minted gold coins set – but so underrated.
I would not estimate a guess for their future worth in the dollars of the nation.
This is just another middle finger to their core base by the US Mint. The Big dealers are the Mints priority the little guy be dammed. But who would blame the US Mint if we keep coming back for more. The US Mint is taking advantage of us they know it we know it but here we go again. Is there a coin news publication that would be willing to put themselves out there and call out the US Mint for what they have been doing to their core base?
