World War I Centennial commemoratives moved quickly out of the gate with five-day sales topping $6.49 million.
The U.S. Mint from Jan. 17 to Jan. 22 sold nearly a quarter of the authorized 350,000 silver dollars and almost half of the allotted 100,000 silver medals.
Both silver dollars are available individually with the proof at $51.95 and the uncirculated at $48.95. Already shipping, their respective sales through five days reached 24,989 and 10,013.
Each of the medals are paired with a proof silver dollar and listed at $99.95 per set. A combined 47,061 sets sold, although none of them have shipped. Since launching, the U.S. Mint has published the following information about their availability:
"These sets are limited to 100,000 units across all five medal product options, and can be ordered only between noon ET on January 17, 2018, and 3 p.m. ET on February 20, 2018, unless the limit is reached prior to that date. Production will be based on the orders received within this window. Fulfillment of these sets will begin in late May 2018."

It’s pretty sad that not only do you have to pay a LOT of money for the WWI sets, you have a 3 months to wait to get them. I see how that makes life easy for the mint, but nobody else. I guess investors at least get the chance see if silver will rise 300% during that time, to offset the expense. Were I a WWI collector, I’d be pretty upset that I got screwed twice. I don’t care too much about how much I have to pay for something I like, but to have to wait for it… Read more »

It is not a 3 month wait for delivery of the coin & medal sets – it is 4 months! Delivery is expected in late May. Crazy stuff!

In your top 10 list, you have all the 2018 WWI coins & sets listed as 2017. And the #10 spot in the list doesn’t show the weekly sales increase #, just the total.

I’ll get it graded from mcm or other dealer just because I’m collecting commemoratives. However, the design isn’t appealing.
Seth, thank you again. Fixed.
Plenty abound still……medals on further review are 0k, the Army is great, Coast Guard, Marines, Air Corps then Navy last (Over there…huh their on the water…) By the way, the Air Service is missing the famous Hat insignia or other on the side, the fmaout ‘Flying Circus” where is it? Eddie R had it on his plane!
Noticed the Marines set is the only one with 2 mints. San Francisco and Philadelphia! Just a note.
Incredibly ugly face on the dollar. The date doesn’t make sense either, as the U.S. entered the war in 1917.
Richard, the mint & dates are not necessarily accurate nor timely, note the Mint is making a 100th Birthday Commem$ for JFK in 2019. JFK would have been 100….in 2o17! Nothing on the $ obverse makes sens from the size to the left handed charge/rifle….and the coin looks like a self-portrait of the artist who designed this mess, of note we never got to see the “losers” we are the losers with this design & the hostaging of the WWI medals…..
Zombie coins with poor designs and weak looking eagles. No Thanks!!!! Melt them and start over!! Please….lol
