Precious metals futures were divided Tuesday with silver and platinum higher and gold and palladium lower.
Gold for December delivery shed $2.30, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,225.30 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The close is the lowest since Monday, Oct. 22
Gold prices "have eased a tad as the ‘big’ dollar finds support on worries over slowing economic growth and fears the Sino-U.S. trade war could intensify again," MarketWatch quoted Dean Popplewell, vice president of market analysis at Oanda.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,221.40 to a high of $1,232.50. They fell 0.7% on Monday. They scored a more than three-month high one week ago.
Silver for December delivery rose 2 cents, or 0.1%, to settle at $14.462 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $14.37 and $14.53. They dropped 1.8% on Monday.
In other metals prices on Tuesday:

January platinum added $2.10, or 0.3%, to $839 an ounce, ranging from $834.60 to $843.40.
- Palladium for December delivery fell $24.30, or 2.3%, to $1,055 an ounce, trading between $1,054.50 and $1,084.40. Last Tuesday, they ended at $1,122.80 an ounce to post an all-time record.
The two divided last week with platinum slipping 0.2% and palladium gaining 1.5%.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Monday PM to Tuesday PM:
- Gold declined $5.40, or 0.4%, to 1,225.40 an ounce.
- Silver fell 22.5 cents, or 1.5%, to $14.425 an ounce.

US Mint Bullion Sales in 2018
United States Mint bullion sales rose by a combined 4,500 ounces in American Eagle and Buffalo gold coins and by 75,000 ounces in American Silver Eagles.
