Honoring a site in the state of Massachusetts, the United States Mint today, Feb. 19, made available the Lowell National Historical Park Quarter Three-Coin Set.
Included in the product designed for collectors are three Lowell National Historical Park Quarters for $9.95.
Bags and rolls of Lowell quarters debuted Feb. 4 with an official release ceremony for the coin held two days the later. The quarter is the first of five for 2019 and the forty-sixth issued under U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.
As for this new set, it holds quarters from three different U.S. Mint facilities — Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco. They come in two different collector finishes to include:
- one uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia Mint
- one uncirculated quarter from the Denver Mint, and
- one proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint.
Found on Lowell National Historical Park quarter reverses (tails side) is a design emblematic of the national site.
"The reverse (tails) design honors Lowell’s role in the Industrial Revolution," states the U.S. Mint in its description of the imagery found on the coin. "The design depicts a mill girl working at a power loom with its prominent circular bobbin battery. A view of Lowell, including the Boott Mill clock tower, is seen through the window."
Reverse inscriptions read: "LOWELL," "MASSACHUSETTS," "2019," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The design is the work of Joel Iskowitz with Phebe Hemphill sculpting it.
All coins in the America the Beautiful series bear the same obverse (heads) image of George Washington. The portrait of the U.S. President initially appeared on the 1932 quarter and has been seen on the coin, with some changes, ever since.
Obverse inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "QUARTER DOLLAR."
The three coins of the set come attached to a plastic card which includes a picture of the historical park.
