Gold futures climbed 0.2% on Monday, May 6

Precious metals futures were mixed Monday with gold and platinum rising and silver and palladium falling.

Gold for June delivery rose $2.50, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,283.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

"We are seeing the markets reacting to uncertainty about trade talks. It is creating some nervousness in the markets. The dollar is a tad stronger, countering some of the potential moves we would have seen otherwise in gold," Reuters quoted Ole Hansen, commodity strategist at Saxo Bank.

Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,278.10 to a high of $1,287.40. They slipped 0.6% last week.

Silver for July delivery lost 5.1 cents, or 0.3%, to close at $14.927 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $14.77 and $14.99. They edged 0.2% lower last week.

In other precious metals futures prices Monday:

  • July platinum move up $6.10, or 0.7%, to $880.90 an ounce, ranging from $859.20 to $881.80.

  • Palladium for June delivery declined $29.90, or 2.2%, to $1,328.10 an ounce, trading between $1,324 and $1,363.80.

Last week, platinum fell 3.2% and palladium tumbled 6.2%.

London Precious Metals Prices

UK markets were closed for a bank holiday. On Friday, they finished mixed with:

  • Gold rising $7.60, or 0.6%, to $1,278.55 an ounce.
  • Silver falling 2 cent, or 0.1%, to $14.655 an ounce.
  • Platinum declining $2, or 0.2%, to $855 an ounce.
  • Palladium rising $1, or 0.1%, to $1,359 an ounce.

In LBMA results last week, prices declined — 0.4% for gold, 2.3% for silver, 3.8% for platinum, and 5% for palladium.
