San Antonio Missions Quarters Three-Coin Set
San Antonio Missions Quarter Three-Coin Set (front and back). This product is the fourth of five for 2019 and the forty-ninth overall in the U.S. Mint’s series of America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Sets™.

Each coin shares the same reverse design which was created to honor San Antonio Missions National Historical Park of Texas. The coins are in collector-grade finishes with each produced at a different U.S. Mint facility. Regular circulating San Antonio Missions quarters launched on Aug. 26 with bags and rolls of them released on the same day.

The latest three-coin set holds:

  • one 2019-S proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint,
  • one 2019-P uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia Mint and,
  • one 2019-D uncirculated quarter from the Denver Mint.

The coins’ design honors the park with elements of the Spanish Colonial Real coin. This includes wheat meant to symbolize farming; arches and a bell symbolizing community; a lion for the Spanish cultural heritage; and a design element for the San Antonio River representing irrigation methods of the missions and the river’s life-sustaining resources. Surrounding inscriptions read: "SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS," "TEXAS," "2019," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."

2019-P Uncirculated and Proof San Antonio Missions National Historical Park quarters
The above CoinNews photos show an uncirculated and proof San Antonio Missions quarter. The set includes two uncirculated quarters and one proof quarter.

This design was created by U.S. Mint AIP member Chris Costello and sculpted by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joe Menna.

Produced as part of the U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, each coin offers the same obverse (heads side) portrait of George Washington. The likeness of the first U.S. President appears on all America the Beautiful products and dates back to the 1932 quarter dollar. Obverse inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "QUARTER DOLLAR."

Also found on the obverse are the mintmarks indicating each coin’s facility of production — a "P" for Philadelphia, a "D" for Denver and an "S" for San Francisco.

A CoinNews photo of this year’s second three-coin set with quarters emblematic of American Memorial Park in Northern Mariana Islands. Coins of the series are produced and issued by the U.S. Mint as part of its America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The series debuted in 2010 and features five new quarters annually with each celebrating a different site of national interest. One site for the program was chosen from each state, the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories.

The set’s three quarters are mounted on a single durable plastic card that bears an image of the celebrated historical park.
