Precious metals futures tacked on gains Tuesday ranging from 0.1% for gold to 0.6% for silver.
Gold for December delivery added $1.90 to settle at $1,513.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The settlement was the strongest since Friday, Sept. 6.
"Safe-haven demand was featured again today and will likely continue in the near term after the weekend terrorist drone strike that crippled Saudi Arabia’s oil industry," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Metals Inc., said in a daily research note.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,500.90 to a high of $1,515. They gained 0.8% on Monday.
Silver for December delivery rose 11.4 cents to settle at $18.14 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $17.82 and $18.17. They surged 2.3% on Monday.

October platinum gained $5, or 0.5%, to $944.20 an ounce, ranging from $930.80 to $946.80.
- Palladium for December delivery settled up $5.50, or 0.4%, to $1,597.70 an ounce, trading between $1,582.20 and $1,607.40. On Thursday, palladium logged a record settlement at $1,604.80.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Monday PM to Tuesday PM:
- Gold rose $4.90, or 0.3%, to $1,502.10 an ounce.
- Silver added a half cent, or 0.03%, to $17.84 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
