Gold, silver and platinum futures gained Thursday. Palladium edged lower, slipping from an all-time record settlement.
Gold for December delivery added $4.30, or 0.3%, to settle at $1,498.30 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The settlement was the highest since last Thursday, Oct. 10.
"Gold is seeing buyers emerge and it seems it is only a matter of time before we see another run towards the $1,500 an ounce level," said Edward Moya, senior market analyst at Oanda, in a daily research note reported by MarketWatch.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,487 to a high of $1,501.10. They increased 0.7% on Wednesday, they lost 0.9% on Tuesday, for their lowest settlement since Sept. 30, and they moved up 0.6% on Monday.
Silver for December delivery gained 18.5 cents, or 1.1%, to end at $17.612 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $17.33 and $17.67. They rose 0.3% on Wednesday, they dropped 1.8% on Tuesday, for their weakest close since Oct. 1, and they gained 1% on Monday.
In other precious metals futures prices on Thursday:

January platinum added $2.30, or 0.3%, to $893 an ounce, ranging from $884.50 to $894.20.
- Palladium for December delivery declined $4.30, or 0.3%, to $1,730.70 an ounce, trading between $1,721 and $1,750. On Wednesday, they logged a record settlement of $1,735 an ounce.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Wednesday PM to Thursday PM:
- Gold rose $7.55, or 0.5%, to $1,492.65 an ounce.
- Silver added 19.5 cents, or 1.1%, to $17.45 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.

United States Mint bullion sales climbed Thursday by 19,000 ounces in American Silver Eagles.
