In futures trading Tuesday, palladium advanced for the first time in three sessions while gold, silver and platinum declined for a fourth session in a row.
Gold for December delivery moved down $3.40, or 0.2%, to end at $1,453.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The settlement was the lowest since Aug. 1.
The charts for gold "remain negative and the overall macroeconomic environment doesn’t have the feel of enough anxiety to reverse that bias,” analysts at Zaner Metals wrote in a daily report according to MarketWatch. "However, the market does appear to have found some support around the $1,450 level and Chinese auto sales for October were soft enough to foster some economic uncertainty."
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,446.20 to a high of $1,460.10. They shed 0.4% on Monday.
Silver for December delivery declined 11 cents, or 0.7%, to close at $16.692 an ounce. The settlement was the lowest since Aug. 6. Silver futures traded between $16.66 and $16.88. They dipped 0.1% on Monday.

January platinum fell $10.70, or 1.2%, to $869.90 an ounce, ranging from $867.80 to $883.
- Palladium for December delivery gained $14.10, or 0.9%, to $1,670.10 an ounce, trading between $1,652.80 and $1,683.10.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Monday PM to Tuesday PM:
- Gold declined $6.65, or 0.5%, to $1,452.05 an ounce.
- Silver fell 14.5 cents, 0.9%, to $16.735 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
