Precious metals futures logged increases Tuesday that ranged from 0.2% for gold to 2.6% for palladium. Gold’s gain was its second in a row.
Gold for December delivery rose $3.70 to settle at $1,915.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"In the last few days, there hasn’t been much volatility on bullion as investors are awaiting new market drivers," ActivTrades’ chief analyst, Carlo Alberto De Casa, said in a note reported by Reuters.
"Only a clear climb above $1,930 would give new strength to the price," he said, adding that while the bull trend seems to have paused, "it is definitely not yet dead".
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,896.60 to a high of $1,917.60. They moved up 0.3% on Monday.
Silver for December delivery rose 28.2 cents, or 1.1%, to settle at $24.980. Silver futures traded between $24.40 and $25.06. They tacked on 1.2% on Monday.

January platinum added $13.80, or 1.6%, to $877.30 an ounce, ranging from $852.10 to $884.10.
- Palladium for December delivery advanced $60.20 to $2,417.70 an ounce, trading between $2,351.10 and $2,426.70.
London Precious Metals Prices (LBMA)
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Monday PM to Tuesday PM:
- Gold declined $7.20, or 0.4%, to $1,898.40 an ounce.
- Silver fell 21 cents, or 0.9%, to $24.63 an ounce.
US Mint Bullion Sales in 2020
United States Mint bullion sales increased Tuesday by a combined 13,000 ounces in gold coins and 724,000 ounces in silver coins.
