Precious metals gained Wednesday. Silver performed the best, rising 1.5%. Gold’s increase was its first in four sessions.
Gold for February delivery lost $7.80, or 0.4%, to settle at $1,878.10 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"The precious metals are supported in part by bullish outside markets today that see the U.S. dollar index lower and crude oil prices higher. Gains have been limited, however, as global stock markets have stabilized at mid-week after being briefly roiled early Monday on new Covid-19 worries," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Metals Inc., said in a daily research note.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,860.90 to a high of $1,883.70. They fell 0.7% on Tuesday and they gave back 0.3% on Monday.
Silver for March delivery gained 38.6 cents to settle at $25.921 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $25.18 and $25.96. They tumbled 3.2% on Tuesday and they advanced 1.3% on Monday, marking their best settlement since Sept. 18.
