Silver, platinum and palladium advanced Thursday while gold declined, although modestly. Silver’s gain was its fourth straight.
Gold for February delivery dipped $3.50, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,851.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,826.60 to a high of $1,857.60. They added 0.6% on Wednesday, they gave back 0.4% on Tuesday, and they rose 0.8% on Monday.
Silver for March delivery gained 23 cents, or 0.9%, to settle at $25.802 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $25.09 and $25.99. They edged 0.5% higher on Wednesday, they picked up 0.6% on Tuesday and they surged 2.6% on Monday.

April platinum advanced $15.70, or 1.4%, to $1,126.40 an ounce, ranging from $1,101 to $1,130.
- Palladium for March delivery tacked on $26.20, or 1.1%, to $2,423.30 an ounce, trading between $2,373.50 and $2,428.

In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Wednesday PM to Thursday PM:
- Gold fell $17.10, or 0.9%, to $1,841.75 an ounce.
- Silver shed 8.5 cents, or 0.3%, to $25.25 an ounce.
