Gold and platinum finished lower Wednesday while silver and palladium gained. Losses in gold and platinum were their first in three sessions.
Gold for April delivery shed $3.80, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,727.10 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Gold has increasingly been held hostage by Treasury markets," Reuters quoted TD Securities commodity strategist Daniel Ghali.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,725.80 to a high of $1,736.70. They edged up 0.1% on Tuesday and they rose 0.6% on Monday.
Silver for May delivery settled up 5.5 cents, or 0.2%, to $26.058 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $25.80 and $26.14. They declined 1.1% on Tuesday and they surged 1.5% on Monday.

April platinum fell $19.80, or 1.6%, to $1,199.30 an ounce, ranging from $1,188.60 to $1,219.40.
- Palladium for June delivery advanced $46.40, or 1.9%, to $2,538.30 an ounce, trading between $2,447 and $2,562.50.

In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Tuesday PM to Wednesday PM:
- Gold fell $5.35, or 0.3%, to $1,729.65 an ounce.
- Silver declined 23 cents, or 0.9%, at $25.85 an ounce.
