Silver posted a slight increase on Wednesday while gold, platinum and palladium declined. Losses in gold and platinum were modest, and those losses were their first in five sessions.
Gold for June delivery shed $1.40 to, or 0.08%, to settle at $1,741.60 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Trader and investor attitudes remain very upbeat at mid-week, which is a negative for the safe-haven metals. However, losses in gold and silver are limited as both metals’ near-term technical postures have improved recently," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,731.20 to a high of $1,745.40. They rose 0.8% on Tuesday and they inched up 0.02% on Monday.
Silver for May delivery settled up 2 cents, or 0.08%, to $25.247 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $24.89 and $25.33. They advanced 1.8% on Tuesday and they declined 0.7% on Monday.

July platinum dropped $8.60, or 0.7%, to $1,231.90 an ounce, ranging from $1,226.40 to $1,252.50.
- Palladium for June delivery fell $69.10, or 2.6%, to $2,621.10 an ounce, trading between $2,585 and $2,687.50.
