Precious metals split Tuesday with gold and silver rising and platinum and palladium falling. Palladium’s loss follows three consecutive settlement records.
Gold for June delivery rose $7.80, or 0.4%, to finish at $1,778.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Gold is likely to hold in the new range of $1,760-$1,810 until we get another clear market driver. We may need to wait for the FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) and see if there’s a change in tone as well as how the next round of Treasury auctions go, but overall bonds feel in demand," Reuters quoted Tai Wong, head of base and precious metals derivatives trading at BMO.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,763.50 to a high of $1,780.80. They fell 0.5% on Monday.
Marking its fifth increase in six sessions, silver for May delivery inched up less than a half cent, or 0.01%, to end at $25.84 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $25.72 and $26.15. They dropped 1% on Monday.

July platinum gave back $10.20, or 0.9%, to $1,196.30 an ounce, ranging from $1,185.10 to $1,214.50.
- Palladium for June delivery declined $56.20, or 2%, to $2,757.40 an ounce, trading between $2,721.50 and $2,824.50.
