Gains in precious metals Tuesday ranged from 0.5% for silver to 1.7% for palladium. Gold closed near $1,900 an ounce, posting a fresh, near 20-week high, and its eighth increase in nine sessions.
Gold for June delivery rose $13.50, or 0.7%, to settle at $1,898 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The settlement was the highest since Jan. 7 when gold ended at $1,913.60 an ounce.
"A slumping U.S. dollar on the foreign exchange market and a wobbly U.S. stock market on this day worked to support the precious metals markets. Charts remain bullish for both metals and that continues to invite technically based traders to the long side," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,873.20 to a high of $1,899.40. They moved ahead 0.4% on Monday.
Silver for May delivery added 15.1 cents to settle at $28.056 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $27.54 and $28.16. They tacked on 1.5% on Monday.

July platinum gained $19.30, or 1.6%, to $1,196.90 an ounce, ranging from $1,168.90 to $1,200.
- Palladium for June delivery advanced $47.70 to $2,777.20 an ounce, trading between $2,724.50 and $2,785.
