Precious metals changed little Wednesday with platinum falling slightly and gold, silver and palladium rising modestly. Gold ended the day near a five-month high.
Gold for August delivery rose $4.90, or 0.3%, to settle at $1,909.90 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The settlement was the highest since Jan. 7 when gold ended at $1,913.60 an ounce.
"The technical postures for both metals [gold and silver] remain fully bullish amid price uptrends in place on the daily bar charts," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,896.40 to a high of $1,911.60. They edged 0.02% lower in their start to the shortened-trading week on Tuesday.
Silver for July delivery added 10.2 cents, or 0.4%, to close at $28.204 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $27.76 and $28.27. They gained 0.3% on Tuesday.

July platinum declined $7, or 0.6%, to $1,192.70 an ounce, ranging from $1,179.40 to $1,199.10.
- Palladium for September delivery added $5.40, or 0.2%, to $2,868.60 an ounce, trading between $2,835.50 and $2,875.50.
