Precious metals gained Wednesday, recording increases ranging from 0.3% for gold to 2.8% for palladium. Advances for platinum and palladium were their third in a row.
Gold for August delivery added $6 to settle at $1,783.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"We’re clearly trading in a very accommodative environment that will underpin gold prices (and) overall it’s still too early to start making mention of reduction in asset purchases and increases in interest rates," Reuters quoted David Meger, director of metals trading at High Ridge Futures.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,773.10 to a high of $1,795.60. They gave back 0.3% on Tuesday and they moved up 0.8% on Monday.
Silver for July delivery rose 25.4 cents, or 1%, to close at $26.111 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $25.80 and $26.37. They shed 0.7% on Tuesday and they edged up 0.2% on Monday.

July platinum added $16.30, or 1.5%, to $1,086.50 an ounce, ranging from $1,069.60 to $1,094.
- Palladium for September delivery added $71.60 to $2,630.50 an ounce, trading between $2,544 and $2,637.
