Precious metals moved higher as a group Tuesday. Gold’s gain was its second in a row. Silver and palladium, meanwhile, rebounded from about 14-month settlement lows.
Gold for December delivery added $14.40, or 0.8%, to settle at $1,778.20 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"There is still some safe-haven demand today after Monday’s sharp sell off in global stock markets that still has traders and investors uneasy in late-September — what can be a historically tumultuous time of year for stock and financial markets,” Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,758.30 to a high of $1,782.80. They rose 0.7% on Monday. They declined 2.3% last week, ending Friday at their lowest price since Aug. 10.
Silver for December delivery gained 40.7 cents, or 1.8%, to close at $22.611 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $22.21 and $22.72. They dipped 0.65% on Monday, logging their worst settlement since July 21, 2020.

October platinum jumped $51.60, or 5.7%, to $950.80 an ounce, ranging from $902.20 to $955.80.
- Palladium for December delivery rose $29.30, or 1.6%, to $1,894.50 an ounce, trading between $1,864 and $1,939. On Monday, the posted their lowest finish since June 25, 2020.
US Mint Bullion Sales in 2021
Published United States Mint bullion sales increased Tuesday by 81,000 ounces in silver coins and a combined 13,500 ounces in gold coins.
