Two United States Mint products made their first appearances on the sales tracking tables this week, the uncirculated 2021 Mint Set and the 2021 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set. The sets ranked #1 and #2, respectively, on the weekly top seller list.
Released Sept. 28 and priced at $25.25, the 14-coin uncirculated 2021 Mint Set logged six-day starting sales of 153,895 for one of the slower starts in the product line.
In contrast, last year’s set registered one of the quicker starts with 191,076 sold in seven days. The 2020 Mint Set enjoyed an advantage of built-in demand as its production run was limited 213,000 (due to the effects of COVID-19 at Mint manufacturing facilities), which instantly made it the rarest since 1959 when 187,000 sets sold. Also, the price of this year’s set is a bigger barrier. Last year’s set was also $25.25 but it contained 6 more coins.
The following table lists starting and ending sales for sets issued since 2007.

2021 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set No Longer Available
Released Oct. 1 for $235, the annually issued Limited Edition Silver Proof Set was expected to sell out because, for the first time, it includes two proof American Silver Eagles — one bearing the classic design and one with the new design. The U.S. Mint earlier in the year offered each of the proofs separately and both sold out rapidly.
Limited to 50,000 and containing 6 silver coins in all, the set held out for about 9 hours before becoming unavailable. Mint stats have its sales at 48,286.

In addition, 28 products saw their sales reduced compared to 19 previously. The reductions ranged from 1 to 1,434 units with the latter tagged to the 2021-S Proof Silver Eagle, Type 2 — the same coin that jumped by nearly 60,000 in last week’s report. The 2021-W Proof Silver Eagle, Type 2, also fell, dropping 699.
Each of the Morgan and Peace dollar products again declined. Their reductions ranged from 25 to 160. Also, every 2021-W Proof American Gold Eagle, Type 2, product fell. Their reductions ranged from 12 to 156.

Ok,
I’m waiting to hear the cries aboot the reverse set eagles going negative like the privy’s. I’m looking at you Kaiser.
& of course, I kid.
Another x interesting to me was the Mr Ed coin gaining.
ymmv
BY THE WAY — where is KW?
Kaiser,
Actually, there is a possibility you left out. The contents are 50/50. What one chooses to make aboot it after that is a personal decision. Basically, it is what it is & nothing more no matter how one tries to interpret it.
Mr Ed is my name for ’21 Liberty, & it’s meant in fun. I have one & dig it. I, in no way, mean to say it’s a bad coin design.
My vote is for a Mr. Ed movie. What with computer graphics, they could give Mr. Ed some hilarious facial expressions.
Kaiser,
I tried, you were correct. Didn’t work. But, it did the next one over from there. So that’s something…
Phil,
There is only (7) Mr. Ed coins left as of 8:05 Eastern time. They will be gone by tomorrow. I got one also and I like it. He doesn’t talk to me though.
Kennygee,
Wait, what, it doesn’t? Maybe I got a 1 of 1, lol
Kaiser,
It has become my Precious…haa
Okay, so they have the 2021 Type 1 ASE Proof, the Type 2 ASE Proof, the ASE Reverse Proof set, and the Limited Edition Proof Set, which contains both types of ASE proofs.
For the 2021 ASE collector who has everything – what is left?
(Hint: See Below)
Mammoth, how about a meteor shower…
Sir Kaiser, that’s way more energetic than an Aldo Nova fantasy.
I would love to read the certificate of authenticity = Hand painted by Mrs Peabodys award winning finger painting 1st grade class.
Enamel coins are very popular now, although I won’t own one. What a great investment for your proof ASE. : P
For the die hard colorized collector… what about some Rock & Roll Damnation obsidian black coinage: New Silver Coin Celebrates 40 Years of Iron Maiden’s The Number of the Beast… Cheers, Eddie!
Its mintage is six hundred and sixty-six
Megadeth Challenge Coins are far more affordable and the Mints could learn a thing or two from these beauties
Truth Be Told. Crush ’em, SENZA!
I really find it weird that Morgans and Peace continue to drop…..with none shipped yet….. Its called un accounted for mintages (ie will they or wont they put them back on sale or leave the mintage ….to be…as is. I also reaaally do not like how they acct for bulk as a separate number…… Example….isnt say bulk 40 at 600 really mean 24,000 more to the individual coin number. AND…..WHY is that allowed to appear to go over mintage limit??? There is definite fussing going on with the book keeping……. Just give us the numbers plain and simple….. Still appears… Read more »
Mike Sleezak threw out some hints on his HSN comedy show Monday. His next show, which I believe is the 25th, will have the new Morgan/Peace dollars. He hinted the P,D,S set will be $1200. He didn’t mention CC/O or Peace pricing.
gman1964, that price Big Mike the Circus Barker threw up of $1,200 for the 3 P,D,S Morgans is about the same as one Texas dealer is selling all 6 of the Morgan/Peace Silver Dollars graded NGC Early Releses MS70 for $390 each (but they are not ANACS!!!!).
I saw the mention, didnt hear the price. That much huh? Yowza. So, ~$400 a pop (maybe for the CC and O too?).
Cant wait to at least see them on the show tho.
…
I also noticed, with the palladium coins dropping a whopping $500, that the sales went back UP by ~300 that they reduced in the last report.
Too late for me, I already sent mine in for grading.
gman, How’s this for a bargain? LCR Coins is advertising pre-sale:the 6 coin Morgan/Peace Dollar set in PCGS MS70 for $3695.00!!!!!!! That’s $615 per coin before taxes and (maybe a shipping charge). Let’s wait for the Barker, Mike “Not Enough Coins” Mezack, to set the most ridiculous price possible. He never fails to amuse.
Coinman, out of curiosity I checked out the LCR Coin web page for the pre-sale 2021 Peace and Morgan Silver Dollar pricing. Here are their individual prices for all 6 coins graded PCGS MS70 First Day of Issue: Morgan with CC privy = $865 Morgan with O privy = $765 Peace = $695 Morgan = $495 Morgan D mint = $495 Morgan S mint = $495 What struck me as most interesting are the much higher prices for the Morgan CC and O privy mark coins compared to the other 3 Morgans, as well as the higher price for the… Read more »
Sir Kaiser, I totally concur. The launch release of the privy Morgans was the last great attack of the Brooklyn Bots, leaving a greater number of collectors empty handed compared to the other Morgans. So now the greedy dealers will try to exploit the circumstances of the perceived higher pent-up demand for the privies (especially for those collectors desiring to complete a 6-coin set). As I mentioned above, at least one dealer in Texas is not discriminating and is charging the same price, $390, for each of the six Morgan/Peace silver dollars (graded NGC Early Releases MS70). The only other… Read more »
On the other hand, how many of us will see our Morgans/Peace dollars graded at MS70? Most will be MS69 or lower.
So true, Sir Kaiser. Many thanks for the very informative insights and information pertaining to the 2021 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars at a most important time just prior to their shipping release to the public and being put up for sale by the wheelers and dealers. As you have said many times, “Caveat Emptor!”
Great site. Very helpful in collecting. Always on top of the new releases.
I’m only here to read your replies. lol.
Heads Up – Just noticed today, Oct. 8th at 2pm ET the 2021 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set – American Eagle Collection is back on sale and available to purchase with 344 sets still available,
It looks like most of the 2021 Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets are still hung up in processing, as well as the 2021-S Proof ASEs ordered outside of the enrollment program. I’m also still waiting for mine.
Yes, shipping notice just received. Looks to be UPS.
October 12th, 8:45am, 29 2021-W Uncirculated eagles available
.
Oh, too late for me, I already received mine. Waiting to send it to be graded.
Thanks for the precise update, gman1964. By the time I looked, they were gone.
Go Speed Racer, go Speed Racer, go Speed Racer go!!!!
Sir Kaiser, I just received my shipping email from the mint (10/12 at 4:30pm ET). So your set should also be shipped out today. Cheers!
Failed to mention the Mint is shipping the sets the slowest way possible – UPS Ground. So be on the lookout for skid marks.
Well, theres UPS / USPS snail mail Smart Post, where they just leave it in your mailbox. 😉
Here we are….almost mid October…the Morgans and Peace Dollars are still “back-ordered”…….When will we see them start shipping???…..OOOOOh the suspense!
On the upside i received my 2021 UNC type 2 ASE today!!!
Questions for soliciting advice on the new 2021 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set and the limited-edition 2021 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set? Is it recommended or advisable to keep these special sets sealed and unopened in their original Mint shipping packaging box as received directly from the mint? If so, why? Is it advantageous to do so if one intends to submit them to PCGS or NGC for grading and slabbing, or for resale purposes? On the flip side, if one decides to do so, it’s disappointing to not be able to verify and view the beauties inside.
I agree with Kaiser as far as any grading purposes, however, on the resale or even auction side I’ve seen items auctioned in the shipping boxes that have gone for some really insane, and I do mean insane, prices.
This particular item went for $400 plus the 20% buyers premium.
image is blurry – this is 5 1976 proof sets that you can pick up for 10-15 dollars each
Thanks for the reply, Carl. Your information on resale and the auction examples are noted. Regarding submission to PCGS/NGC for grading and labeling it most likely is a concern for special sets like the Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets, or for example the 2021 American Eagle One Tenth Ounce Gold Two-Coin Set Designer Edition, which contains coins also released separately on their own (e.g., the 2021-W Type 1 Proof ASE and the 2021-S Type 2 Proof ASE, both released separately and in the 2021 LESPS). So for the grading label to read … from the “Limited Edition Set” on the… Read more »
Rich, if certified is what people go for with those types of sets then the unopened box is a prerequisite to get that type of label designation.
Personally, I’m not a fan of grading and prefer OGP even with the lower quality packaging the mint has been putting out this year. I just can’t see breaking up that kind of set though, but that’s just me.
I keep a lot of stuff in original unopened boxes, but space is now too much of a premium. I’m never going to grade them, so I need to consolidate
the extra cost to grade and hoping all the coins are graded PF70 (the only grade that matters) just isn’t worth it, IMO
Carl, thank you for the timely reply and all the helpful comments.
Sir Kaiser, I think I already knew what your response would be even before you wrote it.
You may already have won a $1,000,000!
As one who does get my stuff PCGS graded (have 4 orders that just got there recently), IF you want the label to indicate the coins are from the LE set, THEN you have to send the LE set in unopened. The Designer Set doesnt matter because of the reverse proof / the minting process of the coin. Its obvious, the type of coin. I got a 2018 LE Silver Proof set aftermarket – needed the ASE-S coin, and needless to say it was no longer in the box. So I’d have to get it graded as a “regular” 2018-S… Read more »
Just an aside, and a sort of benchmark –
I just sent over 60 coins in to PCGS (NY to CA), cost over $99 registered mail (a requirement, for security), and a “good” (?) $1800 PCGS grading cost, at various levels (due to potential value – they have service “tiers”). That included some “freebie” vouchers – but still have to pay handling, return shipping.
So that will average to over $30 per coin; some will realize that increase in value, some definitely will not.
And a mini-gripe about the PCGS service tiers …
You used to be able to send in 1 oz gold coins under their $2500 value-cap tier. But some have their “blue-book” over that with the base metal price (especially palladium) + the current rarity going on all this year.
They kept their cap at $2500. I felt (wished) they shoulda (woulda coulda) changed their caps –
$300 -> $500
$2500 -> $3500.
But whadda I know??
1 more FYI thing about coins grading perfect 70 … in summary, dont count on it – not all of ’em anyway. Its been bad, especially in recent years. I’ve had proof coins from the 80s grade just about the same as some recent ones. I think the Mezacks and early-release dealers get the best, and maybe even send back their 69s or sub-69s “for us”. Just a hunch. grrrr If I sent more than 2 of any type, I doubt I got all 70, and if there were 2, maybe sometimes both were 70. In 2020, due to the… Read more »
Rob S, thank you so very much for all the useful information and advice, and valuable insights and lessons learned from your experience.
No problem, glad to help. This is only my 2nd year as a PCGS member – still figuring some of it out myself, so I’m no expert. But I went into it cold, just followed what help they have online and emailed with ?s and such. They’ll take your money. 😉
I kinda went all-out once I started, kinda the way I can be sometimes.
Some coin shows, PCGS and NGS will grade coins onsite. Save on postage and other costs. Of course it’s the larger coin shows if they attend.
Good point. Also, if theres a dealer in your area thats a registered member, they can submit for you. I think the nearest one to me was a whole state away. So I went solo, got the experience for myself.
