They had no problem charging my credit card, because I can see the charge. There were no problems with any of my other purchases this year, including the other Morgans and Peace dollar. I have not received a single email from the US Mint since the email I received telling me that the CC and O coins had shipped and they provided a USPS tracking… Read more »
Agreed they royally screwed up. I was part of that same group of 10/23 that shows shipped on mint website and pre shipment awaiting item on USPS website. I inquired about 3 times (I never asked for a refund…just the coins) after another 2 weeks they sent an email stating they were refunding coins as i should have received them and considered the package “lost”. I lucked out with that 12/14 re release as i was able to snag them again…received them this time. It brings up the old saying….whos minding the mint?
John — If you haven’t done so already, copy and paste the USPS tracking number into the official USPS tracking site to see what it shows. Just because the Mint says it shipped them is not the gospel truth. For instance, I had “an enrollment” 21EA (type 1 proof) where the Mint said it had shipped, but the USPS tracking number showed (and still shows!) that the label was just printed and that they (the USPS) was awaiting receipt of it to send me! After many go-arounds of complaining and having the Mint’s chat site tell me it was too… Read more »
When I check the tracking number the US Mint provided indicates it indicates USPS is awaiting the package from the shipper. I see I left that detail out of my original post.
John — I missed that (“USPS is awaiting the package from the shipper“) when I originally read your posting. And THAT is exactly how the Mint screwed me on the 21EA I am going to have to take them to Small Claims Court over. What they kept telling me was that it was up to ME to follow up on such things … and that IF I had any issues I had to scream like a stuck pig within 30 days … or it was my tough luck (read that: no refund). But read my 21EA issue posting that I… Read more »
Kaiser — Thanks for your encouraging words. At this point, even though I did not get the 21 EA, I consider it somewhat of a win as I was able to get them to do a refund …. about 8 months after everyone at the Mint had told me “too bad so sad”. That kept me from having to have MasterCard get the refund for me. If that happened, since I would be the one initiating it, I would lose some of my leverage in Small Claims Court. As it stands it just gives me the legal opportunity to throw… Read more »
Mike, pardon my butting in here in place of Sir Kaiser, but I happen to know of over 7 reputable online dealer web sites that carry the type of coin you are looking for. In particular, the 21EA, i.e., 2021-W ASE Type 1 Proof with US Mint OGP/COA (i.e., not graded/certified), is very difficult to find at this time compared to the Type 2 Proofs (which are plentiful). In fact, only 1 web site/online dealer out of the 7 I just checked has the 21EA in stock ready to order (that’s the good news), however, the price is $189.99 (that’s… Read more »
Rich —
You are not butting in. I was hoping some would jump in. And I appreciate your experience/advice.
I know there have got to be some reputable online dealers but I am very sceptical. At the risk of offending you, if I gave you my best Connie Chung imitation could you whisper the names of a few of them into my ear?
Btw, I think Kaiser has a pretty thick/tough skin. So I can’t imagine him ever being offended. Pissed off, yes. Bent out of shape, maybe. Butt nothing else.
— Mike
Rich —
I just did a leap of faith and ordered one off of Amazon. So no need to whisper in my ear.
On the other hand, you were exactly correct regarding my intent. I can present that difference of roughly $120 in Court and stick it in the Mint’s face with all my documentation. The Mint clearly breached its commitment. Who knows? Maybe even a Small Claims Judge would get a kick out of ruling against them!
I will keep you (and maybe even Kaiser) updated ….
— Mike
Mike–
Way to go! Sounds like you got a much better deal from Amazon than I was able to able to find by searching the “dirty dozen” online dealers I use. Good luck with your quest to put it to the Mint in Smalls Claims Court. And being that it’s Christmas Eve, I better sign off before I get in trouble, butt not before I wish you a very Merry Christmas!
Kaiser —
You and Rich are both double entendre types if I ever saw one. Butt you, Kaiser, did a double double entendre on the but since a double negative is actually a positive.
Thanks to both of you! — Mike
What is more comical is that yesterday (12/22) I received a letter from the mint dated 12/14, letting me know that my payment for these coins was cancel by my creditcard company, and they want me to either return the coins or send them a check for payment. (Yes in late Nov I told my credit card company to block payment because the item wasn’t delivered and that was easier than the USMINTs 6 week refund process) I called them today to get this addressed. The person on the phone was able to look at my account and see the… Read more »
Ah, you forget, you’re dealing with the government. ’nuff said. 😉
Byzantium was notorious for it’s bureaucracy and nothing has changed for any Gubmint thereafter unfortunately 🙁
Nice to see all those returned and detained 2021 Morgan/Peace Silver Dollars finally freed up.
Right on, Sir Kaiser! As Sting would sing …Set Them Free
Today I read in CW that the a limited-edition of 20,000 Proof 2022-P Negro Leagues baseball silver dollars be issued with a unique privy mark. I confess to having perverse entertainment from the US Mint’s never-ending sales fiascos for items with privy marks like the 2021 Morgans and Peace silver dollars. Gotta laugh before ya cry. It seems like a game that the mint plays. What’s a baseball term for bad gateway, remind me, not available, limited, enter your credit card again? Following the lead of the 1919 Black Sox Sandal, again for one more time, the Mint is up… Read more »
Got to have 5
Good one Kaiser Wilhelm. Casey at the Bat is so fitting for the collecting community May I now christened “The Mudville Coin Collectors” in honor of your reference. The outlook wasn’t brilliant for the Mudville CCs that day: The score stood Riders 10 to 0, with another inning more to play, And then when the Morgans died at first, and the Peace did the same, A pall-like silence fell upon the patrons of the game. Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright, The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light; And somewhere men are… Read more »
… : PRICELESS
Glad to see that a lot of folks who missed out got a chance to pick up the Morgan and Peace dollars – i just hope they are not getting grading rejects. What I really don’t understand is the 30k reduction in the S Proof Eagles – over 4 months after the release which I believe was a quick sell out. I thought there was only a 7 day return window??? As stated above, who is minding the Mint???
Mjs1447, point well stated with regards to the reduction of 30,852 for the 2021-S Proof Silver Eagle (Type 2), and what about the 2021-W Proof Silver Eagle (Type 2) dropping 10,038. This all smells fishy, er spells fish.
FYI : For my 2nd chance “O” privy order which I had missed out on the first time, I did get an email that my order was in the shipping process but never got an email with a tracking number. The coins just showed up lightning quick days later to my pleasant surprise. Really never know what to expect transaction to transaction.
I missed the Mint sale of O and CC coins as unavailable unfortunately. Guess I’ll wait until next year and try and pick a CC up at something close to Mint retail price.
Noticed the Negro League baseball coins are an order ahead like the Morgan’s this year and that the Purple Heart coins not going on sale 6JAN2022.
😉
Unfortunately by the time I was able to order the ‘O’ Morgans – which I’d been shut out of purchasing on the original sale date – they were already sold out.
I’m NOT going to pay ‘scalper prices’ and will instead follow the lesson of the Tortoise: Patience wins the race.
Silver and Gold
Song by Burl Ives
Silver and gold
Silver and gold
Everyone wishes
For silver and gold
How do you measure it’s worth
Just by the pleasure
It gives here on Earth?
Silver and gold
Silver and gold
Mean so much more when I see
Silver and gold decorations
On every Christmas tree
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Burl Ives one of the best Christmas crooners out there – wonderful song, singer and actor.
Thank you and merry Christmas to you Kaiser and all the CoinNews followers and staff.
Sir Kaiser,
A warm thank you for sharing that particular message on silver and gold. Your thoughts brought to mind the last sentence from The Paradox of our Time – Give time to Love, give time to speak, give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
After accomplishing my goal of completing a 2021 mint set consisting of 1 each of ASE Type1, ASE type 2, P,D,S,0, CC Morgans, and Peace dollar, I have some spares that I could offer to those collectors who could not secure one. I can offer them for swap of equal value or sale at my cost plus shipping for that particular coin. I am a pure collector and not looking to profit monetarily and would be happy to know that a fellow collector that needed them got one. I prefer to swap if at all possible for coins that I… Read more »
Thank you Sir Kaiser. I assure you I am sincere. I got the feeling that most everybody here were true collectors, honorable, and felt comfortable offering them as I wouldn’t want someone else to do the profiteering. I am a member of other sites where there are some that attempt to do just that. As a newer commenter here I was just not sure If I was pushing any boundaries. I do belong to a swapping site and do most of my transactions there. A few profiteers but mostly straight up value based swaps with other collectors. My credentials and… Read more »
Very nice of you harryg to offer these.
I had a small issue with snacks this Holiday – thank goodness I’m still sexy and as soon as I can find my keyboard I’ll check back in – not interested in the Negro coins so my money is safe until at least February.
Yesterday (November 3rd 2022) I got a package in the mail with my four Morgans, 2 cc and 2 o privy marked coins. The packing slip showed it shipped October 21st 2021. When you clicked the tracking link last year it showed they never shipped. The mint refunded my credit card and I too thought about going on the open market but never did. Now I’m waiting to see if they rebuild my credit card. It was like Christmas in November yesterday!
