The United States Mint is opening pre-ordering today at noon ET for their limited-edition 2022 National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Colorized Silver Dollar.
This coin has a low product cap of 25,000, a household limit of one for the first 24 hours, and a short sales window of 30 days, ending at 3 p.m. on April 25, or until the product limit is reached.
The colorized silver dollar continues the U.S. Mint’s 2022 National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Commemorative Coin Program that debuted in February with non-colorized $5 gold coins, silver dollars, clad half-dollars, and a three-coin set.
All are struck to honor the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, which was established to recognize the sacrifice of America’s service members who were killed or wounded in action. Accordingly, the dollar’s $95 price includes a surcharge of $10 that, after associated costs are covered, will be forwarded to the non-profit National Purple Heart Honor Mission to support its mission and for capital improvements to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor facilities in New Windsor.
Purple Heart Colorized Silver Dollar Designs
This coin bears the same imagery as found on the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Silver Dollars which went on sale last month, with one major exception — the purple heart medal depicted on the obverse (heads side) contains purple shading around the bust of George Washington.
Obverse inscriptions include "COMBAT WOUNDED & KILLED IN ACTION," "LIBERTY," "1932," "2022," and "IN GOD WE TRUST." Five stars are shown alongside the medal to represent the branches of the military.
United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Heidi Wastweet created the design. It was sculpted by United States Mint Medallic Artist Eric David Custer.
The dollar’s reverse (tails side) design was also created by Wastweet. It offers the likeness of a nurse in a World War I helmet as she bandages a wounded service member on a stretcher. Reverses inscriptions include "UNITED STATES of AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "ONE DOLLAR." Sculpting was completed by United States Mint Medallic Artist Craig A. Campbell.

Shipping of the commemoratives is scheduled to begin on June 8, 2022. The colorized coin will arrive in a U.S. Mint clamshell case with a purple cardboard sleeve and a certificate of authenticity.
It’s a shame they only reveal renders of coins these days, and not a real version
Agree Daniel, why no actual pictures of coin? And why no renders for coins awaiting sale later this year? No ASE, Air Force Medal, Coast Guard medal, etc. Mint already knows what these coins/medals look like as approved in advance – get the renders up on website for the future sales coins.
I think a certain previous president lowered the bar of all Government and so far nobody has bothered to lift it back up
We can’t blame everything on Carter..
At 97 years old (despite his claims of frugality) his secret service protection and expense account has been a significant burden to American Tax Payers not withstanding the accomplishments of his brother Billy
Thanks for not mincing words
Easy answer Kaiser which Gubmint using all the time last two years – COVID 🙁
Congrats First one On Thread Award to Daniel and if I’m not mistaken this is a double award because it’s your first time being first too – WoW Double Honors
POWER UP!
For what?
Right On Rich,
Another Pre-order – The Mint needs to stop selling what they don’t have in stock and too many releases too close together – This means they must have all been on vacation for the last 2 months of 2021.
More like a Permanent Vacation!
Are you logged in, strapped down and with your finger on the “Pre-Order” button.
Pay Now Get S___ Later like 4 months later – what are these people thinking
OK I’m going in – see you on the otherside
Damn I wish we could get thru just one without that feeling
EXZZZZZACTLY!
Kaiser, they billed my credit card again what about you – this is not an authorization they took the cash off my card – wow if only we could all sell stuff we don’t have and get paid in advance -THIS REALLY HAS TO STOP
Right On
Absolutely and what about the other mystery – are we to believe that America is split evenly down the middle and half want Liberty while exactly the same number want destruction.
Well said!!
I think they are using the pre order process more often because they don’t want to be scraping left over inventory.
If you and I conducted business like that we would be on American Greed and put in prison – funny how that works.
Hi, my name is Bernie Madoff and only the US Mint and it’s NGC parteners along with the Governor of Michigan have pulled off bigger scams than I have but they are not in prison Hmmm.
I think this is going to go fast today
Ya, I think it’ll be buoyed by fewer offerings this yr. I’m not seeing anything on the schedule that moves my needle.
Sounds like the same scenario as the 2022 Negro Leagues Baseball Privy Proof Silver Dollar and the US Navy 2.5 oz Silver Medal.
Good. It lets collectors buy the coin while flippers get the scraps.
How original was this idea? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7PHolrHOck
SENZA —
Good music with an even better graphic. Did you assemble that graphic or what?
— Mike
Hey Mike,
Nice to hear from you – I have to admit I cheated a little and assembled that graphic the easy way but all that matters is that someone found value in it.
Locked and loaded. good luck to all who are in for this coin.
Done. Less than 10 seconds and I am out with a coin purchased.
Awesome job!
Super fast!
Same here definitely less than a minute. Confirmation email was pretty fast also
In and out. Smooth transaction.
Great! Now we hurry up and wait for delivery 😉
Enough time that we have to make sure our CC’s are valid.
They billed me right away on my debit card. I think they are charging in advance.
It’s a hold Adam L. After one week it will drop. Once Mint mails you will actually be charged.
Mine never drops and even just a week of interest on that money is millions in free cash for the US Mint who charged us for a product they don’t even have = US Government Treason
This can be a serious problem. I got dinged last year when a card was cancelled in an “abundance of caution” by an issuer due to a fraud alert. I told the CC company about the coin purchase and they assured me the transaction would be covered with the new card number. The Mint cancelled the order when they presumably processed the order with the old card number. I had to reorder. Luckily, the set hadn’t sold out. If it had, I would have been SOL.
Rooster, that’s faster than the burger joint!
Indeed. lol
I got one! Only had to provide CC info twice. An improvmen.
Done. Easy peasy today with order 🙂
Same here.
Good going 🙂
Sweet!
With $21 shipping for me, that coin is pretty pricey.
$116 for less than an ounce of silver, what was I thinking? That’s close to the $125 buyers club flip price.
anyway, I’m guessing the lack of instant profit (plus 4 months of wait time) kept the flippers away from this one
Watched the Official US.GOV time, did a quick re-load on the order page, and was done by 9:03AM Pacific Time.
As of 9:08AM the Mint shows data-available=”16498.0“
Good luck to all my CoinNews buddies!
— Mike
PS I just hope this will not be a case of unfulfilled foreplay ….
Mike, much better than “Livin’ on Tulsa Time”
PS Its Hard to wait until we get our fulfillment
I miss Day Trading on California time – there is still plenty of day left to go to the Beach and Ruby’s
Good going – rockin’ roll 🙂
Now hurry up and wait for delivery.
I’ve done more than three purchases already this year and still being tagged for shipping on my credit card. Wonder when sales actually go thru will U.S. Mint drop some of the shipping charges? Fingers crossed.
That’s exactly how the loyalty program free shipping goes, Chris. The 3 purchases will register at the time of fulfillment when your credit card is charged for the orders. It gets a little complicated when your dealing with pre-orders, back-orders, and enrollment orders, as opposed to direct “Add to Bag” orders.
P.S. Glad you had another easy peasy ordering experience today!
I had to call for shipping refunds for every single order after #3 last year.
Sounds like the Mint!
Yep 🙁
Same here they said it was my fault I didn’t sign up correctly – I still don’t know what that means but it feels like: If we miss twice your free to go home
I got hit for shipping in August for the peace dollar, even though I already received via enrollment the type 1 ASE and the clad and silver proof sets. The mint refused to refund me because two of those items weren’t listed in my order history.
Guess I could have followed up by sending the packing list and order confirmation emails to them. But with bieng on hold for 45 minutes and all the crap I, and others, dealt with just to place a release date order last year, I figured for 4.95, it wasn’t worth the effort
They are always very arrogant and rude to me and it’s always somebody else’s fault the US Mint is corrupt, price gouges and steals from it’s customer’s and it’s always, always somebody else’s fault.
I did that too 🙁
Yep, I figured these preorder, backorder shenanigans will put a wrinkle in things 🙁
Is that in one of those crab cars?
i liked it when the subscriptions were shipped early in the year.
My computer crashed and I still got one……… That was too easy
My Guesstimate of a 12 minute sell out did not come to fruition as they are still available for Pre-order
Good going SENZA, I got one too. Hope Sir Kaiser wakes up from his nap soon and snags one.
LMAO _____At 12:01
LOL!
I’m happy for all who scored one here, but the reason it was relatively easy is that it wasn’t that desirable. The analytics on this are easy peasy.
This coin had higher run (25K) than NLB privy mark (20K) and Navy medal (10K). That may explain why a “few” left over next day.
If Mint put privy mark on this coin that 25K probably gone in first or second hour Phil.
Phil, Congrats on the Big Score
Sadly, the US Mint is like Wall Street (Corrupt Beyond Predictability) who would have thought they could have screwed up Sally Ride as quick and terribly as they did so we now have to react accordingly if we want a product however, the more this happens the less I want their products
The puppet masters can defy reality if not for our amusement then for our dismay always remember
So much for a ‘quick’ sell-out. I’m saving my money for silver at a lower price point.
Yes, still available after 40 min.
Ordering this one was… Why it’s Greased Lightning!
Here is a breakdown of the sales over the first hour, i.e. the data-available numbers after launch time:
15 minutes = 15,344
30 minutes = 14,226
60 minutes = 13,043
I’ll update later with data-available number at the 3 hour, 6 hour and 12 hour time marks. …for what its worth
Thanks Rich for the update. I wish your formula for this worked on an Apple.
Spot on, Major D. If it makes it to the 12 hour mark, it will probably go to the 24 hour point and then its bye-bye tomorrow noon time.
I’m thinking the Mint lost some more customers after the Sally Ride Fiasco and Government Employees get a paycheck with or without customers
Well done Kaiser you just described the US Mint under the control of NGC and it’s Mafia Dealers – I was just explaining that to an Independent Agency who reached out to me for an opinion on the US Mint.
If NGC calls the US Mint Director and says run 1,000 error coins and send them all to us – that’s exactly what happens
UPDATED breakdown of the sales over the first 6 hours, i.e. the data-available numbers after launch time:
15 minutes = 15,334
30 minutes = 14,226
60 minutes = 13,043
3 hours = 10,565
6 hours = 9,588
will post next update at 12 hour time mark, After Midnight.
As of 6:45PM (EST) there are still over 9,000 available.
$95.00 for less than an ounce of Silver we are never going to learn
Major D,
And $10 of the $95 can be used any way the Politicians want use it
I love it!!! The coin is definitely not a “flipper coin,” but it is one I wanted for my collection.
Same here I’m not flipping anything for pocket change and I wanted one for myself – I got multiple half dollars for my Marines and family after we were all sabotaged by Joe Biden back in August and of course I collect all Denver Mint products.
SENZA —
I’m impressed with the depth of your perceptions. I had a high number in the Draft so never served. But your Biden comment made me realize that I deserved this coin after being wounded by good ole Uncle Joe. Hopefully he won’t go in for the kill …
On the other hand I get my taxes done tomorrow so I’ll see if that tax promise he made during the election was a bigger lie now than even I thought it was then.
The Undertaker is the last person to let you down.
— Mike
I wonder how many more will get bought up by this group here.
Couldn’t agree more about the shops jumping in. I would like to get one more also.
Yes if they lift the limit tomorrow I will also try for 1 more. Especially since I have free shipping now. I bought the uncirculated gold one today before the introductory price was over. I figured that one is looking like a really low mintage. I don’t know if I like the design but often the coins I think I’m not going to like end up better in person. Maybe because my expectations are lower : ). I noticed the Gold Eagle are still limited to 1 per household even the 1/10 ounce.
Adam, I checked on the HOLs for both the 1/10 ounce and 1 ounce GAE Proof coins, the only ones still available for back order, and they both have a HOL of none. I’m pretty sure the HOL = 1 was lifted last Friday after the initial 24 hour limitation. So you might want to check it out if you’re still interested
400 more have been sold since my last comment. I still work part-time, and didn’t have a chance to get on my tablet to order one. I assumed when I got home at 02:30 they would gone, but got one quite easily.
Are you able to get the counts on an Apple device?
Rooster. Go to the page where the coin is selling and right-click your mouse on the page and go down to where it reads “View Page Source.” Click it. When you observe the new page (code), hit Control F. and type in “data-available (without the quotes).” The page will highlight the number of coins available.
BTW, I use Windows 10.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I have an iMac desktop and don’t get the option of “View Page Source” when right clicking. This is what I get.
I have a MacBookPro. You position the cursor above the “Pre-Order” button, and right click to get a popup that includes “Show Page Source”. Don’t position the cursor over the letters before right-click. Instead position the cursor over the non-letter part of the button and right-click. Then search on “data-available” in the “web Inspector” window.
Thanks Paul. Tried again and same pop up. Probably something in my settings preventing access. Appreciate the help.
You’re welcome, Rooster. Looks like Paul helped you. Awesome. It’s a cool tool to use to check on remaining inventory of an active product.
Incredible that people are buying these on Ebay for twice the US Mint price. My goodness.
I seen one dealer advertise “more than 10 available” and some amateur flippers advertising multiples plus “Immediate Shipping”
Maybe they are in a gang…
Yeah the NGC Mafia
There are more of “US” than that – let’s be honest lol…….. Remember that ebay account I mentioned having more than 10 available on pre-sale – he obviously knew the outcome in advance.
This is what the page shows now, guess it wasn’t as wanted as I thought it was but I just want one to keep to honor the military and my grandfather fought in WW2.
Sherry —
You must have checked how many were left just moments before me as I essentially got the same result. But bless you for having the real value of collecting in mind, especially to honor those that fought or were wounded in battle.
I’ve been collecting since the late 1950s. I always did it for the beauty and history of the coins. And unlike many, I have never sold any coin I collected. But this Purple Heart one is special and, like you, hits close to home for me … and unfortunately for all too many.
— Mike
I’m seeing 8519 available
Final Update and Announcement of the Winner of the Best Forecast Estimate of how long it would take for the Colorized Purple Heart to sell out. Out of the dozen or so prognosticators (myself included) posting their best guesses here on CoinNews over the last few days, the Winner is Major D. UPDATED breakdown of the sales over the first 12 hours, i.e. the data-available numbers after launch time: 15 minutes = 15,334 30 minutes = 14,226 60 minutes = 13,043 3 hours = 10,565 6 hours = 9,588 12 hours = 8,493 After midnight, we’re gonna let it all… Read more »
I thought of Eric Clapton but he is boring so….. As always I have one simple suggestion TURN THIS S___ UP LOUD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNcQnf7SL-A
Rich and SENZA, try this one out 🙂

Somebody call for the Priest!
Sorry Chris, my security software would not let venture the real of your link but don’t take it personal It warns me every time Kaiser posts LOL
It’s Judas Priest video “Living After Midnight.”
Excellent choice damn my Firewall – Damn it to Hell
Well, it went down just like Major D predicted (Congrats again!). At the 22 hour point (10am ET) data-available = 8,295. I had wanted to record the amount remaining at 12 noon ET right before the initial 24 hour mark, but missed it. When I got back from shopping and checked at 12:07pm they were all gone, not available. In conclusion, the sale of this one went as well as could be expected: everyone and anyone who wanted to get one could, and no one was denied; and those of us who got one are rewarded in knowing that this… Read more »

Over 8,000 still available this one is going into over-time
. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyFnLqJx-uU
I do believe that posting was a triggering event for you but no worries it’s going to be ok
Will this commerative be a good investment or just another nice conversation piece?
The thing about coins is that they may hold their value plus some. They never pay interest or dividends. However, it is a great way to diversify. Most who collect do it because they enjoy it and yes they are a fun “conversation piece” as you put it.
And there they go.
Some big fish probably just bought 8,000 of them
Crazy how fast.
Amazing accurate call Major D
Holy Crap even I’m Amazed
I bet they were given to NGC and Caffeine Mike before they even went on sale.
I caught Kaiser talking to himself again
I checked HSN nothing there as of yesterday does he have an independent website or network aside from HSN? You know that place you can pay $1499.00 for a $300 piece of silver worth $100
Ha! I got one more today. Out of stock at 12:02
Managed to place 2 orders for 5 each before becoming unavailable. Less than 2 minutes and gone if I recall correctly.
Lol. Xtra coffee could have played a factor. I actually was placing my 3rd order when they were no longer available and the prompt came up to remove from cart.
Good job Rooster – If I need an extra one I’ll be looking for your ad on Feebay I bet you’ll be a Flippin’
Senza: Not a flipper. Long time collector. I usually gift my coins to family members or charity auctions. My father in law was a recipient of this medal WW2. Special meaning for sure. He fought in France.
Rooster, your the best! And congratulations for scoring all those extras, quite a haul, especially knowing what they mean to you and where they are going.
…Yeah, here come the Rooster!
Thanks Rich! Last time I snagged extras was the Marines commemorative coin in 2005. That was also my father in law’s branch of service.
What a coincidence, in all regards on the 2005 Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollar. I purchased 3 each of the Proof and Uncirculated, both ungraded in US Mint OGP/COA, PCGS MS/PR-69 and MS/PR-70. The 2005 Marine Corps and the 2001 American Buffalo Commemorative Silver Dollar are two of my favorite commemorative silver dollars
Something about those buffalos. I opened two boxes of the 2013 gold reverse proofs earlier this week. Amazing!
Nice Rich. I too got two Marine Corps coins. Kept one for myself and gave other to my then girlfriend’s father who served in Marines.
Oopses, should of been response to Rooster not Rich – stupi me 😮
Lol
Thanks again for that. It’s who we are.
Same with me Rooster – not a flip coin. My grandfather received one on WWII Feb1945. Unfortunately, my grandmother received Gold Star as he was KIA 🙁
Sorry for your loss. God bless him and your grandmother.
Thank you Rooster.
Now let’s hope we get all these Purple Heart coins quickly.
Family history is an important staple of living that so many take for granted – your father in law is living thru you – don’t forget to pray for the 13 Marines Biden slaughtered if Afghanistan just 8 months ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1kaXpnJD-0
Yes it is. Thanks for sharing the video.
Even Obama would have said, “We killed some folks”
And now the question. Will they send my two coins in the same package? Or two packages with two shipping charges? Mmmm
Separate packages. No shipping charges after the first 3 orders. Enrollments have no shipping charges but count towards the 3.
There have been issues in the past but this is how it should work. I am seeing shipping charges on all my orders but after they ship 3 the charges should drop.
The mint keeps it on in case of cancellations I believe.
Exactly! Well put.
I would say we wore this thread out I’m moving on
I would like to nominate Sir Kaiser for being the last entry in this thread. One more reply from him should do it.
I hate, hate, hate colorized.coins. No paint on my silver, please!
Do you mean approval from the mint?
My first order for the colorized Purple Heart has finally changed from processing to shipped. Hopefully this week it will be in hand.
Today I received the colorized Purple Heart commemorative coin. I can’t think of a nicer commemorative I have owned. So beautiful in hand compared to the pictures. Anyone who has ordered this coin will be very happy.
