Precious metals were little changed Thursday, posting modest increases following losses for all but palladium on Wednesday. Gold’s gain was its fifth in six sessions.
Gold for June delivery edged up $1.30, or 0.07%, to settle at $1,847.60 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Gold seems to falter when it hits anything like a technical resistance and then you get long liquidation and profit taking. So this is the key issue for gold at the moment," Reuters quoted independent analyst Ross Norman.
Gold futures traded between $1,836.30 and $1,852.80. They fell 1% on Thursday, they gained 1% on Tuesday, for their highest settlement since May 6, and they climbed 0.3% on Monday.
Silver for July delivery rose 9.5 cents, or 0.4%, to settle at $21.965 an ounce. Silver futures ranged from $21.73 to $22.08. They shed 0.9% on Wednesday, they finished up 1.6% on Tuesday, also for their best close since May 6, and they edged 0.2% higher on Monday.

July platinum added $8.10, or 0.9%, to $937.40 an ounce, trading between $924 and $939.
- Palladium for June delivery rose $4.20, or 0.2%, to $1,993.50 an ounce, ranging from $1,973.50 to $2,007.50.
