Last week, the United States Mint started selling rolls and bags of dollars recognizing the invention of bluegrass music in Kentucky. The U.S. Mint’s latest sales figures show how the dollar performed in the early going.
Released Tuesday, June 28, the Kentucky $1 coin features a design depicting a banjo, an important bluegrass instrument, tilted to one side, alluding to the rhythm and movement of the music. It is the third of four for 2022 from the U.S. Mint’s American Innovation® $1 Coin Program that runs from 2018 to 2032.
Rolls and bags of the dollar logged six-day starting sales of 902,750 coins, representing the third best debut in the product line to date. The immediate prior dollar, celebrating Vermont’s introduction of the extreme sport of snowboarding, ranks second with 903,725 sold in six days. The 2019 New Jersey dollar depicting a light bulb has the top spot with 991,200 sold in four days.
Products containing Kentucky Innovation dollars held four of the top five weekly sales slots.

Why wasn’t bourbon Kentucky’s innovation?
I think Texas is challenging them for the title but the title of First On Thread goes to you without dispute = Congrats
Enjoy your major award – I think Kentucky would say there’s a lotta gold in them there Hills
Thanks. Them thar hills 😉
Agree SENZA, Texas is cranking out some good bourbons. Sad to say that Tennessee’s Jack Daniels still rules the roost in bourbon though – at least in sales, not in taste.
This is the only Whiskey I have acquired in a long time and it’s for collecting purposes – I have not tasted it but I did get the First Bottle of the First Batch so when I find the right collector it will fetch a pretty penny
You make The Colonel proud Major D 😉
I have nothing against the banjo or Bluegrass music Kaiser but wondering how Bluegrass is an innovation.
Vices are good Kaiser. Even Gubmint taxes can’t stop them 😉
You know special interest groups cried it’s not fair to the chickens or the trees
Deliverance
Sadly these numbers are total Horse Shit and Lies – Donald Trump Ethics have rubbed off on all Government agencies and the US Mint is no exception – what are those words that define a corrupt Government turned against the people? Oh Yeah! Civil War! Treason! None of those coins can be considered sold because they were just loaned to the US Mint’s corrupt dealer’s – I was about to post some images of those dealers ads trying and failing to dump these coins at cost when I stumbled onto the ultimate proof of this US Mint sham: That being… Read more »
Damn Kaiser, that’s a Home Run
There are now 1,076 of these available anyone got $4,900.00 they want to piss away
I’m introducing a new Award and Major D is the first recipient – keep up the good work – keep exposing the US Mint
alas this particular design is not that interesting. it’s kinda sad they had to put the word ‘bluegrass’ over the design because I guess half-a-banjo doesn’t connote bluegrass enough by itself.
I’m so confused
Thanks Doc
I don’t typically open mine – unless a buyer wants a roll with heads and tails ends but I never had any issues been buying them since the 2018 inception – have not opened any of the Kentucky yet.
No telling what the dealers do to them – I bet they search them and keep all the good ones – this dealer isn’t doing so well
Just click on my blurry images they should come into view
Also ASE 2021 Type 1 coin had an increase of five sales.
And nope, didn’t get any notification from Mint that ASE Reverse Proof two-coin set or the ASE Type 1 available even though I clicked the “Remind Me” button for them.
I’m still waiting for that one. Hope is still alive.
I know! I was still able to purchase a set.
All 4 American Innovation coins for 2019 are still available on the US Mint website.
You may recall I mentioned that the 2020 American Innovation Proof Set contained the 4 hottest coins of the series – at that time there were still thousands of sets available and now
I do remember seeing some Dad discount or free shipping that may very well have done it – good point – I just remember there being a lot – I believe 18,000 available not too long ago
After the FAKE sell out of the 2020 American Innovation Kentucky coins there are now thousands of this product available on the US Mint website. So we know and want to know” The US Mint is blatantly lying about sales of this product. The US Mint is giving it’s dealers the majority of the stock prior to initial release. While the dealers have this stock they may be searching thru and taking all the best coins for their own purposes. Are the coins the dealers can’t sell being returned to the US Mint or are the dealers holding them and… Read more »
.Yes I said 2020 and I meant say 2022 Kentucky
It would not be unusual to have something similar to bag marks as the coins are in contact with each other. I have some white boxes that have bulges because the rolls were not fitted in properly I’m assuming – I did open a $250.00 box (10 Rolls) of George Bush and they were all OK. That being said every receipt the US Mint has sent me has been mangled and appears covered in black grease. They have never put the bubble wrap (when they even use it) around the product so I frequently get dinged up white boxes but… Read more »
Welp, Mint sent enrollment notice that the 2023 Morgan & Peace Silver Dollars as well as the two coin reverse proof set are available. Signed up for all of them already. Also, SF ASE enrollment available so jumped on that too. Do you need to re-enroll every year for ASE enrollments? I signed up already for ASE W proof. ASE W and ASE W Uncirculated enrollments are also there. Looks like a pre-sales bonanza at Mint today. Lastly, re-signed up for the upteenth time for the 2021 reverse proof two coin set – hope I get a notice to purchase… Read more »
Did my enrollments for all the 2023 Morgans and peace.
Naturally it appears you cant see any of your enrollments afterward presently
Someone told me they got thru to customer service who said our enrollments won’t be lost but we have all heard that before – I think Ventris wants to shake out all the current enrollments to let her dealers capture them so we have to pay 300% mark-ups forever
Glad you jumped on the Morgan & Peace Silver Dollar enrollments early Domenic 🙂
Hello Coin Collectors
Just saw MM introduce a replacement for himself. Wow, I never thought I would see him retire. Wish him well, this coin news group will surely miss him. He was an easy target that will be hard to replace.
Greetings Allan, nice to hear from you again since your departure a few weeks ago, and thanks for the update on Big Mike.

Well that sucks. I should cancel and buy a new set.
