Prices for precious metals changed little Tuesday, with modest gains registered by gold, platinum and palladium and a slight loss logged by silver.
Gold for August delivery edged up 50 cents, or 0.03%, to settle at $1,710.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
A big drop in the U.S. dollar index this week is limiting selling interest in the precious metals. However, rising U.S. Treasury bond yields this week and a wobbly crude oil market are squelching the bulls. A lack of fresh, markets-moving economic or geopolitical news in mid-summer has metals traders languishing and looking more at the outside markets for direction," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.
Gold futures traded between $1,702.60 and $1,716.50. They rose 0.4% on Monday.
Silver for September delivery shed 12.7 cents, or 0.7%, to settle at $18.713 an ounce. Silver futures ranged from $18.51 to $18.85. They moved up 1.3% on Monday.
In other precious metals prices Tuesday:
-
October platinum added $2.90, or 0.3%, to $858.90 an ounce, trading between $842.60 and $872.30.
- Palladium for September delivery added $5.10, or 0.3%, to $1,854.20 an ounce, ranging from $1,838.50 to $1,887.50.

Little change today. Still looking at my gold and silver and it looks the same to me.
If you have a million ounces you did well today and if you don’t you still did well; Congrats First-On-Thread
Is 16 ounces of gold good for a start?
Your a God of Gold Antonio, are you part Egyptian
No, just like 1/10 oz. gold Pandas and I have other gold, like Sovereigns and a few others. I figure it’s about 16 ounces when they’re all added up. More for retirement.
Right On! I had a lot of these 2 gram Lions and PAMP 2.5 gram Gold Bars but in 2020 I started selling those – more than double what I paid for them.
If you bought it before 2009, it was affordable. Now it’s not so much so. Also, the weights have changed and the Pandas, for my part, I believe are no longer produced in the 1/10 category, but I could be wrong. Other gold, I’ve also slowed down on purchasing due to the cost. Why I’ve focused on silver. Not that silver offers the return gold does, obviously.
Antonio, starting in 2016, Gold and Silver Chinese Pandas switched to metric sizes. The 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams) coin was reduced to 30 grams. So the new coin sizes/weights are: 1 ounce became 30 grams, 1/2 ounce became 15 grams, 1/4 ounce became 8 grams, 1/10 ounce became 3 grams, and 1/20 ounce became 1 gram. All the new metric size denominations give you less metal compared to the older troy ounce size denominations except the 8 gram coin which equals 0.257 troy ounce, which is a little more than 1/4 troy ounce (Four 8 gram coins = 32.0… Read more »
Thank you Rich and SENZA. That clears that up! Still cost more than what I’m accustomed to pay for them, the reason I stopped buying them. They’re just not worth it for my money.
That little thing called SPOT =”The House (dealers) always Wins” and we always lose – we have to start seeing this for what it is and psychologically realize we are being fleeced.
The Dealers are masters of FOMO
NO MO FOMO
On that note take a look sometime at the difference in price between the a 1 gram gold bar and a 2 gram or 2.5 gram and see why it pays to NOT buy the 1 gram bars.
Your admirable.
I have the same but I do have some Gold jewelry

I read somewhere – that this summer alone, the increase in fuel prices negated the benefits of the electric vehicle since it’s inception – including our wallets but they didn’t have to tell us that part.
It’s at the point where we have to blame ourselves and wonder if we all should have been at the Jan6 event NOT FOR TRUMP but to save ourselves from these dirt bag politicians. Ukraine wants it’s debt forgiven now……………………………………..
