Agree. Although I am not sure this years proofs are the most they ever made going back to 1986. I’ll need to check. Someday, these will be worth a lot more, but today is not the day.
Sir Kaiser and EC Guru, points well taken. We usually don’t list the highest mintage years for coin series. To compare this year’s 2022-W ASE Proof high mintage figure to the series’ highest mintage years, here are the top-10 highest mintage ASE Proof coins:
1986: mintage = 1,446,778
2006: mintage = 1,092477
2011: mintage = 947,355
2014: mintage = 944,757
2013: mintage = 934,812
1987: mintage = 904,732
2012: mintage = 877,731
2010: mintage = 849,861
2007: mintage = 821,759
2005: mintage = 816,663
By the way, I looked up in Numismedia and it shows all the proof ASE eagles going back to 1986 regardless of mintage numbers as valued around $100 in 69 condition.
EC Guru, your observation is quite constructive. Based on the Numismedia Fair Market Value (FMV) prices, there is very little difference in the FMV prices for the regular issue ASE Proof PF-69 coins over the entire series from 1986 to present. The FMV prices for the 1986-2005 ASE Proof PF-69 coins range from $103 to $108, with the exception of the lowest mintage (mintage = 372,168) 1994 ASE Proof with FMV price = $131 and the 1988 ASE Proof (mintage = 557,370) with FMV price = $120. All the regular issue ASE Proof PF-69 coins with dates 2006-present have a… Read more »
Rich, wondering out loud here, since the premiums on ASE bullion is extremely high, some say due to the mints lack of production this year, the excessive premiums have apparently spread to prior year ASE’s as well with huge mintages. And now maybe to the ASE proofs. Seems like something is up in the marketplace.
EC Guru, your hypothesis is most compelling and worth noting. Here is some supporting data for the ASE bullion series, listing final mintage and FMV prices for MS-69 coins: Top 10 lowest mintage ASE bullion coins: 1996: mintage = 3,603,386; FMV price = $115* 1994: mintage = 4,227,319; FMV price = $100 1997: mintage = 4,295,004; FMV price = $75 1995: mintage = 4,672,051; FMV price = $68 1998: mintage = 4,847,549; FMV price = $68 1988: mintage = 5,004,646; FMV price = $53 1989: mintage = 5,203,327; FMV price = $51 1986: mintage = 5,393,005; FMV price = $103**… Read more »
Sir Kaiser, the prices listed within the NumisMedia Collector FMV Price Guide (i.e., collector FMV prices) represent Numismedia’s Collector Fair Market Value determination for a properly graded coin within each category. The pricing information reported comes from all over the numismatic market including many reliable dealers known for their unbiased market knowledge and information.
Whereas (not mentioned above), the Numismedia Dealer Price Guides (i.e., dealer market prices) present Wholesale Dealer Prices representing dealer trading levels for properly graded sight-seen coins.
One more thought I have on the ASE’s. I like Money Metals and the short articles they have. One of them recently was about ASE’s not being a good buy due to the excessive premiums. Other silver coins would be a better buy to get more ounces per dollar. But it seems odd to me that they are buying @ $30 per ASE. Why? That’s about 9 dollars over what they pay for say a Philharmonic. Seems like they see ASE’s commanding a premium for quite awhile into the future. Some Other coin dealers are paying the same for ASE’s… Read more »
Thanks for clearing that up, Good Sir Rich; much appreciated!
Appears to be a coin that not only holds its value but then some.
Based on the ‘data available’, there are less than 57,000 of the reverse proof Morgan/Peace Dollars available. Now, whether that is out of the 250,000 maximum or whether that is out of, say for example, only 200,000 are offered under subscription, who knows.
If only there had been the Proof S Morgan and Peace dollars this year. The possibilities.
It looks like they’re up this morning (Oct. 13). Gold and silver are another story.
As you well know, you just can’t believe everything, can you?
Antonio, don’t believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.
With my tinnitus, that’s not a problem.
I laugh a lot and realize how blessed I am. Smile, it makes people wonder what you’re up to.
How’s this…lets keep the American eagle design as a bullion coin and just switch over to the morgan and peace design for the collector market annually.
Sounds like a good plan to me. I’ll sleep on it a couple of days and let you know what my conclusion is.
hahaha!
Hello again fellow collectors. I am an infrequent commenter here on the site and have not visited for a while. I find this site very pleasant, helpful, and educational when I do visit. I am still trying to figure out how to best navigate this site and my question is this. How do I access past articles or topics say maybe a year old or longer for instance? Are they deleted after some time or is there some type of library or archive I can access and search for specific topics? Thanks for your time.
Hello harry guss, I saw a comment in the “latest comments” part of the main web page last week or so that was commenting on an article that was 7 years old, so it appears they do not disappear. I am also not sure how to find a specific old article, but I did see they have a “search” box at the top right of the page, maybe that would work. I personally do not usually have much luck with searches on any websites. They rarely pull up what I was looking for. If you are talking an article you… Read more »
harry guss & Jeff Legan,
How to look up any of the past pages that are stored here on CoinNews.net:
1) Go to the CoinNews.net site Home Page.
2) Click on LATEST HEADLINES in the blue bar near the top of that page.
3) On the page that appears scroll to the bottom to the previous pages display list.
4) Choose which page(s) out of a possible 1,148 pages you want to look at.
Thanks for the info, Kaiser Wilhelm. Out of curiosity, I looked at the 1148th page. The articles are 15 years old. Picked an article about planchets and saw people have been asking questions in the comments as recently as 1 month ago. As far as I know, no regular posters here monitor old articles for comments. If those 3 latest comments on the main page were to show more comments (my idea-show the single latest comment from 10 different articles instead of the latest comments, period), perhaps some of those old ones would get answered occasionally. I have been enjoying… Read more »
Jeff Legan and Kaiser Wilhelm – Thank you both so much for your responses, they are very helpful. Of particular interest to me are previous topics and articles relevant as to how the U.S. Mint has a history of favoring bulk buyers over every day collectors like us. I don’t know how to convey that or articulate very well what has gone on in the past for a discussion on another coin site of which I am a member. I remember some folks here have articulated that information very well in short order and don’t want to write a book… Read more »
Between the 2 of us, we might have made your task a bit easier, harry guss. But I think most of the info you are looking for will be in the comments, not an article itself and I would be surprised if you can search comments. From my experience here, the info you are looking for might be in the comments of an article that has nothing at all to do with bulk buyers. You are going to have a lot of articles to search through. I seem to recall there was talk of that subject in some comments not… Read more »
Righto, Sir Kaiser! Didn’t the Mint just allow the Authorized Bulk Purchasers to pick up over 50% of the allotted mintage of the 2022-W $25 Reverse Proof American Palladium Eagle (product/mintage limit = 7,500 coins).
I for one will not be one of them. Good luck and good riddance Authorized Bulk Purchasers. What goes around, comes around.
I think that’s the only way I’ll buy a proof Type 1 2021 W ASE from the Mint.
Kaiser –
My subscription for the 3 roll Women’s quarters now shows the Oct 25 as the next release date, so looks like good news for you if your says the same thing!.
