Palladium climbed slightly on Thursday while gold, silver and platinum posted solid losses — 1.7% for both gold and platinum and 2.4% for silver.
Gold for February delivery lost $30.10 to settle at $1,795.30 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Technically, February gold futures bulls still have the overall near-term technical advantage. A six-week-old uptrend is in place on the daily bar chart. Bulls’ next upside price objective is to produce a close above solid resistance at the December high of $1,850.00. Bears’ next near-term downside price objective is pushing futures prices below solid technical support at $1,775.00," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.
Gold futures traded between $1,792.70 and $1,829.30. They were unchanged on Wednesday, they advanced 1.5% on Tuesday, and they dipped 0.1% on Monday.
Silver for March delivery dropped 57.2 cents to end at $23.622 an ounce. Silver futures ranged from $23.74 to $24.44. They retreated 0.3% on Wednesday, they soared 4.6% on Tuesday, for their highest settlement since April 21, and they gave back 0.6% on Monday.
