Precious metals declined on Wednesday after marking gains on Tuesday. Losses on the day ranged from 0.4% for gold to 2.3% for palladium.
Gold for February delivery shed $7.30 to settle at $1,815.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Gold and silver prices are lower in midday U.S. trading Wednesday, on normal corrective pullbacks from recent gains that saw gold hit a six-month high Tuesday an silver an eight-month high last week. Profit taking from the shorter-term futures traders was also featured today," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.
Gold futures traded between $1,804.20 and $1,822.80. They increased 1.1% in their start to the trading week on Tuesday.
Falling from a one-week high, silver for March delivery dropped 37.7 cents, or 1.6%, to close at $23.84 an ounce. Silver futures ranged from $23.70 to $24.28. They gained 1.2% on Tuesday.

April platinum gave back $12.50, or 1.2% to $1,020.20 an ounce, trading between $1,015 and $1,045.70.
- Palladium for March delivery fell $41.30 to $1,785 an ounce, ranging from $1,750 to $1,840.
