Before Platinum Eagle sales started on Thursday, the availability was listed as 6200 which dropped to 5099 after the first hour, and to 3202 by Monday morning. That would make sales of 2998 for the first 4 days. Since the mint lists sales of 9620, assuming more weren’t minted over the weekend, it rather implies 6620 were sold before Thursday sales started if their numbers mean anything at all. Maybe it is my mistake to try and make sense of the numbers. Still there is no shortage and anyone who wants one can still buy it.
I think 6,000 were loaned to bulk “buyers”. The rest were sold to collectors.
First one sold out. So far this is this week’s best seller at over 9000. A handful more sold in a week than last year’s coin in full year. I wonder why this one so much better seller. I know. Everyone wants deez nuts. (Acorns) I have the first year. Think I skipped last year (pricey) and probably gonna skip this year. Platinum is beautiful, but I’ve always preferred silver over gold and white gold over gold. I see the bucking horse also won coin of the year. I stared at it in my cart and kept updating the sales… Read more »
Nope. I was wrong. It is the alphabet people’s coin. Didn’t see it earlier, but totally obvious for fruits and nuts. Actually says bears fruit, but acorns are nuts not fruit. It is a tree nut. And it makes more sense since most alphabet folk are tree huggers. On the platinum page I see 4 coins. 3 list freedoms and all say liberty. One is the preamble, but says liberty, no mention of the preamble on it at all, just a single mother with kid in a field with liberty in fancy writing. I presume that coin isn’t part of… Read more »
Knowledge is knowing that an acorn is the fruit of an oak tree.
Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad. lol
Stole the quote from Australian Mark Valencia. He has a gardening channel on YouTube.
I did replace “tomato” with “Acorn” and added “of an Oak tree” so I’ll take full credit for that alteration of his quote.
What use do I have for wisdom and knowledge when I’m already a genius. (Imagine wile e coyote, showing his business card)
To be or not to be. That is the question.
No son, the question isn’t why you have 2 B’s, it’s; why you have 3 F’s?
There is one definitive test. Find someone with severe nut allergies. Tell them that the acorn tree is a fruit tree and have them roll around in a pile of acorns, and nibble on one. I suggest having a epipen on standby. Depending on the article, some say it is the fruit of the tree, others the nut. I tend to think it is similar to a pecan or walnut, but they actually have an outer layer with a meat inside. Pecans also usually have a fleshy pod on the outside during it’s early stages. So do walnuts. While peanut… Read more »
A nut is a fruit with a hard outer shell that does not open to release its seed so technically an acorn is both a nut and a fruit.
Finally a use for all that time spent in college decades ago studying to be a Botany Major. lol

Gotta have it! In the future, people will be confused as to what it is. Ten years from now, people will have forgotten the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CCAC meeting on the 2024 quarter designs just concluded. I’ll post an image of their choices. They deadlocked on the design for the PTM quarter and are recommending either of the two designs shown. I marked the designs also recommended by the CFA.
Caliskier’s issue of a two headed coin was discussed. It was explained that to comply with the law a portrait on the reverse of a coin needed to include the head, torso and hands.
I see 3 Sally Ride 3 roll quarter sets were ‘sold’. Must have found them lying round somewhere, since they were sold out March 22 last year.
Maybe they are flippers and hit the $600 limit on ebay and sent 3 rolls back to keep the irs off their scent. Thanks for posting the pic. I tried but it said give chrome permission to access your entire phone. Nope. Not happening. If the person is wearing a watch, would that count as having hands? Seems a good year to take time off from the coin purchases. Hard to say which way metals will go, but I think it is time to start putting coin funds into the stock market again. I’ll get the Morgan’s and peace, but… Read more »
In related news, I saw that I can see the falcon rocket from my front yard. Pretty cool. Just watched crew 6 launch after midnight. Next time I’ll grab my binoculars to look. But traveling at almost 17,000 mph is crazy. Too bad they don’t make em with manual transmission
Roger, Major D Antonio, Kaiser Wilhelm and any others that may have followed along with our discussion. Here is the official and correspondence I received back from the US Mint this morning. Hello, Caliskier(Mr Smith/My Last name) “Thank you for contacting the United States Mint concerning the American Women Quarters™ Program coin honoring Jovita Idar. As noted, the reverse (tails) design of the Jovita Idar quarter features a depiction of Idar with her hands clasped, and within her body are inscriptions representing some of her greatest accomplishments and the newspapers for which she wrote. Although the provision in the authorizing… Read more »
The mint couldn’t honor the Addams family in a coin series. They would probably release Wednesday on a Sunday even though she us the daughter. Morticia would probably be OK. Gomez is hit or miss as he sounds like he belongs on a peso not a dollar. Uncle Fester would probably fall into the American innovations series for his work with the light bulb. Lurch would have to be extremely limited edition and his coin would just pop up at coin shows randomly. And Thing, well… he has no head or torso and Cousin It, you can’t see the face… Read more »
