The prices of precious metals showed minimal fluctuations at the start of the trading week on Monday, just prior to the U.S. holiday break on Tuesday in observance of the Fourth of July.
Gold for August delivery edged up 10 cents, or 0.01%, to settle at $1,929.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Gold has struggled in recent weeks against the backdrop of persistent stubborn inflation, resilient economic data, and, as a result, higher interest rate expectations. We’re seeing it bounce back a little over the last couple of sessions after briefly dipping below $1,900 but the trend is still very much against it," MarketWatch quoted Craig Erlam, senior market analyst at OANDA.
Gold futures traded between $1,917.70 and $1,939.90. They dipped 20 cents last week, and marked a June loss of 2.7%.
Elsewhere, silver for September delivery rose by 9.2 cents, or 0.4%, to settle at $23.112 an ounce. Silver futures ranged from $22.91 and $23.29. They jumped 3% last week, but still notched a June decline of 2.4%.
