Gold for December delivery settled down $2.60, or 0.1%, to $1,944 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The settlement was the lowest since July 11.
"Gold and silver bulls remain very timid to start the trading week as the U.S. dollar index is higher, crude oil prices lower and as the near-term technical postures for both metals are bearish," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Inc, said in a daily research note.
