Last week, the United States Mint introduced the 2023-W $100 American Liberty Gold Coin, the 2023-P American Liberty Silver Medal, the 2023-S Proof Morgan Silver Dollar, and the 2023-S Proof Peace Silver Dollar. Early sales for these products are now available.
The top weekly sellers for the U.S. Mint were the pair of silver dollars, with the proof Morgan ranking first and the proof Peace taking second. To avoid repeating the analysis of already covered data, please refer to our earlier article on their initial sales.
Released on August 10th, the pair of American Liberty products were the third and fourth best weekly sellers. The silver medal recorded sales of 21,308, which accounts for 28.4% of the possible 75,000, while the gold coin achieved sales of 8,842, representing 70.7% of its maximum mintage of 12,500.
Sales of the gold coin would have been higher, but its online order page had long instances where it was shown as "unavailable."

I see they found and sold 25 more 3-quarter rolls for Bessie Coleman. Amazing.
They had just “rolled” under the assembly table at the distribution center.
I find it interesting, the proof dollars were sent out almost immediately. the 3 roll quarters – not even in ‘processing’ yet.
and Kaiser, how do you explain the additional 25 rolls of Elanor Roosevelt quarters? they have been listed as unavailable practically since they were released. and now they are 63 sets over the production limit. but I guess someone wanted 25 rolls of that and the Coleman quarters (which really haven’t been available since Feb 14) and they magically appeared
Major – I was referring to the totals listed under new sales from last week, not what was available under subscription. somehow in the last week 25 additional 3 roll sets were sold for items that were unavailable. even taking into account a few days delay for counting, I can only wonder. And the fact both went up by exactly ’25’ seems strange. just thinking out loud.
Perhaps returned or slow selling inventory gets pushed to back of warehouse or storage facilities and new product gets placed in front blocking access. And since it gubmint, inventory and audits are required usually monthly, quarterly, bianually or annually. So probably rediscovered at that time. Or. They are used in sting operations and after courts done prosecuting cartels and yakuza they send back to mint. Welcome to the multiverse
Probably since fewer dollars they struck in advance and placed on shelf. Now they plan to press the quarters so going to use same die to smash the circulation, rolls and proofs. So shouldn’t be long now til your order status updates. You know the government saying… you owe us, pay up. We owe you, you’ll get it when you get it
Mike Unser.
Thank you for the update. Interesting that the ” Liberty 1 oz” was “unavailable” for a long period of time. The silver medal likely would also have had higher sales if there had not been an initial limit of “5” on it.
Happy Birthday, Bretton Woods, what will the next 52 years bring?
The future’s not ours to see, especially since that’s way past our expiration date.
Plus as you get older, vision gets worse.
For some reason, the uncirculated coins are not bringing sunshine. Could it be they’re blemished with finger prints? I know, I need to get over it. It was 1996 afterall.
Antonio,
Alright, I give up. What exactly does any of that actually mean?
Hahaha, You are not keeping up, Kaiser Wilhelm. Antonio is still peeved about the 1996-W dime he received from the mint with a fingerprint on it. Like I am still peeved that the Mint did not release a 2009 proof ASE, and periodically mention it in some of my posts. Not as long ago as 1996, but if I am still alive 13 years from now, I bet I will still be bringing that up as well.
Why couldn’t fingerprint be removed with soft cloth? Or did the oils etch it before he received it?
It’s water under the bridge.
And how about the never issued but promised 2022 proof Morgan and Peace dollars? It makes a gap in our collections.
If history teaches nothing else, it should be too stay off boats.

If you close the curtain and turn off the lights bam, blemishes gone
Ok. Can’t remember who posted the pic of peace with the blemish on the cheek. But… as I watched coin collector this evening I caught another detail. As he was demonstrating his ms70 he moved ot to show the 3d like effect. And I could have swore I saw a circular blemish on the cheek. So perhaps it’s acceptable, or missed, or the coin in his holder was a demo, or prop for the show. But other had said they didn’t have the mark.
Or perhaps smashed from the same imperfect die. Corrected after die changed
Or, the quality control guy really loved that chicken from Popeyes
I got the Gold Liberty today. Looks like the Mint has stepped up its game a little on the packaging. A hard plastic clam shell came in a sleeved box. The sleeve and COA have nice raised printing. The coin holder is still cheap plastic but the overall packaging is certainly better than the crap they’ve been sending out lately.
P.S. – They still charged me shipping despite qualifying for free shipping under the loyalty program. Oh well, guess I’ll be on the phone with customer service tomorrow.
My order for the Gold Library and silver medal is still ‘processing’ even though it disappeared from my credit card as pending on Tuesday. I’ve called 3 times and they say they are busy shipping with so many products coming out recently. My order for the Johnson medal has shipped so who knows what’s going on. At least I’ll have a month longer before paying for it whenever it does ship.
Gold Liberty not Gold Library, this phone tries to read my mind and I sometimes don’t correct it.
I think we’ve all been there. Dang self xorrect.
FYI,
The Mint made an error on the silver medal COAs. The COA for this medal says “coin” on it 5 times, instead of “medal”.
