Last week, the United States Mint started selling the Andrew Johnson Presidential Silver Medal, along with rolls and bags of Jovita Idar quarters. Uncharacteristically, the U.S. Mint refrained from offering initial sales figures for the silver medal. Expect these numbers to become available at a later time. However, the Mint did release the opening sales stats for the quarter products honoring Jovita Idar.
The Idar quarter marks the ninth release in the Mint’s four-year series of coins that celebrate the accomplishments of American women. It was launched on Aug. 15 in the form of roll and bag products, with prices ranging from $40 to $60. Across the products, Mint figures show combined sales of 2,513,040 coins, already making it the fourth-highest selling quarter in the series to date. For comparison:
- The 2023 Eleanor Roosevelt quarter kicked off with sales of 2,629,460 and is now lower at 2,622,920 (products saw sizable sales drops in the week ending June 25).
- The 2023 Edith Kanakaʻole quarter opened with sales of 2,328,400 and is now at 3,031,000.
- The 2023 Bessie Coleman quarter debuted with sales of 2,745,380 and has now reached 2,936,320.
- The 2022 Anna May Wong quarter started with sales of 1,740,120 and is currently at 1,760,720.
- The 2022 Nina Otero-Warren quarter opened with sales of 1,720,160 and is now at 1,758,040.
- The 2022 Wilma Mankiller quarter debuted with sales of 1,738,440 and has now reached 1,754,000.
- The 2022 Dr. Sally Ride quarters started with sales of 1,755,480 and is currently at 1,757,040.
- The 2022 Maya Angelou quarters opened with sales of 1,753,280 and is now at 1,757,660.
Each of the new Jovita Idar quarter products ranked among the Mint’s top weekly sellers, although they did not claim the top spot.

I guess when you pay 50 cent for a quarter, it’s better to return for refund rather than roll it and deposit into account. I wonder why the return. Maybe people thought it was pesos and not cents since it was in Spanish.
Article about ivar. Where you get Sally ride from? Are you still having acid flashes? Mustang Sally.
August is almost over and still no date for release of the uncirculated set. guess they must be looking for new packaging or something after last year’s packaging made all the coins look damaged
Kaiser,
Too funny! Thanks.
I have a second place entry for President Ford, if you ever watched the Flip Wilson Show on tv in the 1970s you will get it.
Geraldine Ford
NumisdudeTX
Da devil made me do it!
You never watched The Flip Wilson Show? It’s what Geraldine frequently said when not talking about Killa.
Cross dressing was high society in Shakespeare days. I wonder who was first to do it on film, I’d think buster Keaton, or maybe abbot and Costello, or laurel and hardy or the Marx brothers. Was Lucille ball the first to dress as a man? Were women allowed to dress as men characters for Halloween? See what can you opened
>> “the U.S. Mint refrained from offering initial sales figures for the [Andrew Johnson] silver medal.”
um, maybe because it was zero? not sure who would want to commemorate the former president which is ranked dead last by most historians – and that’s even after factoring in recent history.
So whatcha saying is, ranks right up there with women’s soccer team medal if it was out.
Spain fired their first team for women’s rights and they won for the first time. I was gonna go check out a local high school football game but I can’t afford superbowl priced tickets. I have seen a couple of games Messi played for Miami. Not many, as I won’t pay for apple TV, although I think I get it free from my cell provider, and if he at the end of his career is making these top of their game players look like 3 stooges (forgot about them from earlier post but now that I think about it, I… Read more »
So you saying that making a couple million suddenly made em better players. Like in video games where I can be awesome, but if I pay for collectors set I get exclusive armor or weapon and gold that I can use to buy better weapons and if I am rich and buy everything that I’ll be the best player? US is only team that makes men’s money. Other countries have since started their bra burning so I guess because they also asked for a raise, suddenly they improves too. In a way it makes sense. If some people work a… Read more »
if remaining loyal to USA gets you a medal, then I am pretty sure we need about 300 million or so medals designed…
So the Maya Angelou S quarters will be the lowest mintage at 7,588 coins. Two more years to go, anything can happen! Stingray! Stingray!
Antonio – not coins, but rolls of 40 coins, so 303,520 coins, though still the lowest mintage (until all of a sudden the sales report will show an additional few rolls sold. ha.)
so 600 fewer coins than Sally Ride.
You didn’t miss out, you just have to compromise your values and pay someone other than the mint, slightly more than you could have bought from the mint. But all things considered. If ya paid the markup then, you’d have these rarer coins that will probably fetch a higher premium than the ones you did get. I know not about the money, but think of all the people that could have gotten the liberty coin of 2017 for what $1400. It’s still available, but would you still be a sucker for paying the current asking price? Of course, cuz you… Read more »
Not for nothing. They did sell 10 of them according to the stats. Online you can’t find one under $2800 +/- and those are graded and slabbed. So for what the mint is selling them for due to gold price going up (odd since they’ve been pressed and gold bought and used 6 years ago) they could have a graded 70, now for same cash they got an unknown grade. Also odd is that most ase are not selling for the same price as the new ones. A 1987 or 1994 or 2018 or 2021 is spot plus a few… Read more »

Received my 3 roll Jovita Idar AWQs today. I really wanted the S coins. Would have liked to buy all the 3 rolls for the entire series but some sold out too quickly for me to buy. This was the first time I could get in and nab a set. They do have an unusual reverse design. I wonder how that will go for circulation issue coins. I’ll wait and see when I get my Eleanor Roosevelt coins from my bank. At least now I have one of the Jovita Idar quarters from each Mint and a Silver Proof S… Read more »
The Queer Nation here in the USA is represented well in this AWQ program of 25-cent coins with lesbians Dr. Sally Ride (2022), Eleanor Roosevelt (2023) & Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray (2024).
