Coins from three different U.S. Mint facilities go on sale today at noon EST with the launch of the 2024 Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray quarters. The release includes 100-coin bags, as well as sets of 25-coin rolls containing circulating quality quarters produced at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints.

Today’s products mark the introduction for the first of five quarter designs of 2024 to be issued in the United States Mint’s four-year series of American Women Quarters™. This series saw its inaugural debut in 2022 and includes five new strikes annually through 2025.

"The American Women Quarters Program is a four-year program that celebrates the accomplishments and contributions made by women of the United States,’ describes the U.S. Mint website about the series. "The American Women Quarters may feature contributions from a variety of fields, including, but not limited to, suffrage, civil rights, abolition, government, humanities, science, space, and the arts. The women honored will be from ethnically, racially, and geographically diverse backgrounds."

Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray was born on November 20, 1910. Unfavorable circumstances during her youth did not prevent her from excelling in her studies, ultimately leading to her enrollment as the only woman in her law school class at Howard University. She graduated at the top of her class and went on to pursue many civil rights and women’s rights cases, establishing herself as one of the most noted Civil Rights activists of her time. In 1977, she answered a religious calling and became an Episcopal priest. Murray passed away from pancreatic cancer in 1985.

Quarter Products and Prices

These newest quarter products, designed for collectors, are sourced from the production floors of three different U.S. Mint facilities. The options for the release include:

  • Two-Roll Sets for $40 – containing 40 quarters produced at the Philadelphia Mint and 40 quarters produced at the Denver Mint
  • Three-Roll Sets for $60 – containing 40 quarters from Philadelphia Mint, 40 from the Denver Mint and 40 from the San Francisco Mint
  • 100-Coin Bags for $45 – buyers have the choice of 100 coins from either the Philadelphia or Denver Mint

The Philadelphia and Denver Mints strike the circulating coinage of the nation, so Murray quarters from these facilities will eventually end up in pocket change, as they started entering circulation on Jan. 2. Quarters struck at the San Francisco Mint, however, are produced solely for numismatic purposes, such as for the three-set rolls, making them more desirable to collectors.

Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray Quarter Designs

Appearing on the reverse (tails side) of each new quarter is a design showing Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray’s eyeglass-framed face within the shape of the word "HOPE." A line from her poem "Dark Testament" describing hope as "A SONG IN A WEARY THROAT" is featured as an additional inscription in the design.

Reverse inscriptions also include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "25₵," "THE REVEREND DR. PAULI MURRAY," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The design was created by Mint Artistic Infusion Program Artist Emily Damstra. Sculpting is the work of United States Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna.

A common obverse (heads side) portrait of George Washington appears on all coins of the series. The effigy was originally created by Laura Gardin Fraser as a candidate to mark George Washington’s 200th birthday for inclusion on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar. Inscriptions are "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2024."

U.S. Mint’s Women Quarters Program

The series of American Women quarter dollars was authorized by Public Law 116-330 and will include a total of twenty issues over four years at a rate of five per year. Each celebrates the accomplishments and contributions made by women to the development and history of the United States.

2022 quarters honor Maya Angelou, Dr. Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, Nina Otero-Warren, and Anna May Wong. 2023 quarters celebrate Bessie Coleman, Edith Kanaka’ole, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jovita Idar, and Maria Tallchief.

For the 2024 quarters, the following individuals will be showcased:

  • Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray – poet, writer, activist, lawyer, and Episcopal priest
  • Patsy Takemoto Mink – first woman of color to serve in Congress
  • Dr. Mary Edwards Walker – Civil War era surgeon, women’s rights and dress reform advocate
  • Celia Cruz – Cuban-American singer, cultural icon, and one of the most popular Latin artists of the 20th century
  • Zitkala-Ša – writer, composer, educator, and political activist

These coins will also be featured in quarter clad proof sets, a quarter silver proof set, holiday ornaments as well as the traditional annual sets.

Announced later last year, the 2025 quarters will honor Ida B. Wells, Juliette Gordon Low, Dr. Vera Rubin, Stacey Park Milbern, and Althea Gibson.

HOPE? NOPE, I’ll pass on this artistic masterpiece. If anyone it looking to purchase ASE’s on the cheap, Silver.com has 2023 ASE’s for as low as $27.66 each. That’s $4.49 over spot Ag! I bought a 20 roll for $553…I can live with that!

With her image cut how it is, kinda looks like she is behind prison bars.

Craig

I was thinking the same thing, but then I remembered that no-one goes to jail in this country, unless they are white and of conservative tendencies. Isn’t it amazing that you can now beat up cops and don’t have to spend even an hour in jail, just like those illegals did in Chicago.

Dazed and Coinfused

I figured it out. She isn’t in jail, you, as the white victim of the crime, are in jail. Allegedly (they love that word, unless it applies to tRUMP) you in jail for assaulting their hands repeatedly with your face and they are suing for damages as you had the audacity to bleed on their new limited edition Jordan’s. Sure they were stolen, but possession is 9 tenths of the law. Unless you find CW gold, or a sunken ship treasure, or another valuable hoarde then the gubmint seizes it and displays it in museums that you have to buy… Read more »

I love your in-depth analysis of coins (see we’re talking about coins!) and the subtle themes these coins (did I say coins twice!) are supposed to impart on us (white conservatives.) I did not see that it’s my persona imagined behind jail bars and the lovely black woman who is free, and probably is my appointed trial judge. She has to be smart because she’s wearing glasses, right? I know there are many who would love to see me behind bars for a long time. After all, I own my house and gas powered cars (I’m thus an environmental terrorist),… Read more »

Maybe he can afford to pay the indigenous people of Hawaii to finish his bunker and pitch in to send em to big island to help other indigenous that lost homes in the lava last year. I know that the rock and Oprah broke a piggy bank and donated $10 of their own dollars to help set up a GoFundMe so that taxpayers can contribute to the cause. Nah. Who we kidding. That dude looked like he had to google what apologize meant. I think his head would have exploded if he had to Bing what sincere apology meant. Welcome… Read more »

Howard. That’s a white privilege school ain’t it. She must have pulled a Warren and claimed Indian ancestry. Born 1910. Figure she goes to college about age of 20. 1930. So somehow, she managed to attend the school during great depression. How oh how did her family or herself afford it? Let me guess, she died 50 years later owing a million in student loans because preachers don’t make much. Ben crump, modern day ambulance chaser, surprises me as he hasn’t gotten his online certificate to be a priest. Then he can fit in with the other racists, Rev AL,… Read more »

Speaking on the titles. With just about every civil rights figurehead having reverend or being huge part of church, has anyone considered that God doesn’t like them? Are they praying to their captor/ oppressor? Falls on deaf ears. Then again, everyone at the bills game prayed for the kicker and we all know how that ended, a couple times. So God not a bills fan either. Speaking of… will Mr. Irrelevant beat the predetermined Brady replacement? I wanted Detroit and Kansas city. Can you imagine Taylor swift and Eminem feud? I’d buy that record. Houthi think they gone beat the… Read more »

Dazed, There must be a lot of money-making opportunities in the racist world these days. I used to think racism was almost dead in this country (it’ll never be gone completely) but since George Floyd, or that Brown character, it’s all everyone talks about. Those black hucksters you mentioned are laughing all the way to their banks. Man, did the Lions choke big time on Sunday. Other than the fact that it was to be their 1st SB appearance, it makes no difference, as the winner of this years AFC game (the actual SB) will be the winner on February… Read more »

Dazed and Confused and Craig.

Have you guys exchanged email addresses yet so we can just stick to coins on here?

Craig

We can talk and chew gum at the same time! But certainly enlighten us with your coin facts.

Christo

I would but you would just turn it political so why bother.

Dazed and Coinfused

You didn’t break a finger scrolling down too far did you. Seems to me it is all on topic. Discussing the subject and comparing her to others in her field. Unless superbowl is political. But I’m sure the commercials this year will remove all doubt. Can you imagine usher face when he heard nfl wanted last minute to include Taylor swift somehow. Priceless. Imagine prepping for months and then 2 weeks from the big show might have to change to accommodate a white girl. It would have been way funnier if it was Kanye, but then again he supported trump… Read more »

Dazed, A truly masterful post my man! I don’t know why Crisco finds information that you post, with a humorous twang, to be so offensive and political. What thing in this country isn’t influenced by friggin politics these days. I wish it weren’t so, but I’m not going to stick my head in the sand and ignore it either. If you don’t see what’s coming at you then you’re nothing more than ‘a sitting duck’ and you know how that ends. I see you watched the SoD speech where he magnanimously accepted full responsibility for his failure to notify any… Read more »

Why so short ….. wonder if anyone reads such oratory

edited for censorship i suppose, but i am known for long stories. matter of fact, got 2 longs i had to save so i can edit them and see if i can still get my point across and open eyes. you may be woke, but if you are still groggy it is hard to see the full picture.

Coinfused says: “Howard. That’s a white privilege school ain’t it. She must have pulled a Warren and claimed Indian ancestry.” You might want to read up, so as to not show such ignorance. “By 1900 Howard University had more than seven hundred students. Along with Fisk and Atlanta universities, Howard was one of the most prominent black academic colleges in the country. Under the administration of President Wilbur P. Thirkield (1906–1912), the university began to stress more industrial courses of study and the sciences. Howard established one of the first engineering programs at a predominantly black college; Howard’s other science… Read more »

Kinda slow picking up the sarcasm aren’t you. Well aware Howard is a black university. Anthony Anderson wasted no opportunity to constantly mention on black-ish to point out the pride of foung to his Alma mater and how important it is to black heritage. Actually, it is the most referenced university in black movies. Every educated black is destined to go there, graduated from there, or would be a legacy. Norfolk state is another. Hampton University is another. And not to mention, every black kid in my classes wrote about tubman, Douglass and Dr King. And all wanted to go… Read more »

I missed the sarcasm or what you perceive as humor, due to your “Overwhelming” continued, flat out, racist rants, you keep posting. Either Coin News, should monitor posts and discourage racial rants or change this sites name to Richard Cranium News or D&C News, “where racists” can act out and speak unabated about their racist beliefs! AWESOME! I’ll go away for another few months, as regular engagement or association with racists is not my forte.

I’ll be joining you. There are thousands of other sites that these two could be regaling others with their wit and wisdom but no, somehow they both think that a coin information page is the best place to troll.

CalSkier & Christo:

You guys didn’t get the press release? Coin News decided to merge their comments section with The Daily Stormer.

I generally just check out the articles and avoid the comments if only White Nationists are posting. It lengthens one’s life and it makes the hobby much more pleasant.

P.S. – I still miss Kaiser & Major D. They were founts of wisdom & information but they got run off here. Luckily, the internet provides plenty of moderated sites. Maybe I’ll find them out there again sometime.

You are 100% correct. It is taught. From black single parent to to her 50 kids. And they teach don’t truss the white debil. Don’t be friends wit da white folk. Once they are old enough to go to school they tell them not to play with the white kids. And first chance they get they put their kids in historic black middle and Hugh schools. If I’m racist for pointing put the disparity and double standard (blacks aren’t racist, even though they only hate whites, they can’t be tried for hate crimes, then again they can’t be tried for… Read more »

Dazed, Interesting post which shows your humanity and heart. If I could give you some advice, it would be to not worry what these obvious MSNBC and Morning Joe fans say is your problem..you know… that you’re a racist, white nationalist, etc., etc., etc. These people don’t know your core values anymore than I do. I personally don’t hate anyone, not even crooked biden, but that doesn’t mean I like him either and that’s how I look at people. I know some well respected blacks, some of whom have done better than myself in this life, and I applaud them… Read more »

Remember MADD. Bunch if moms mad because their kid was out early hours of the morning when the drunks leaving the bar and got killed. Wasn’t, man I should make sure my kids are home safe, nothing goos after midnight. Not all drunk crashes at early morning, but mostly. Notice not one said that while drinking and driving is wrong that having teenagers out at 3 am is just as reckless. Sure we snuck out, but not regularly enough that the odds favored certain death. But then they say talking and texting is just as bad or worse. So traffic… Read more »

Out of curiosity, had George W. Carver gone to Tuskegee for his education, do you think he would have achieved as much as he did, or was his ability to attend white schools an advantage and gave him the knowledge he needed to complete his research? Howard wasn’t around at the time, not until Carver near end of teaching and booker t died. He wasn’t good at admin, so makes me think that English and proper writing (citing sources, which is hard… even for a modern day dean at harvard). I can’t imagine there were many HBCUs, considering population much… Read more »

Face 1004

Here is something my wife found in her change. A 1913 Lincoln cent in what I would say fine to very fine condition. I actually found a 1908 Indian cent in about the same condition at a dollar tree a few weeks ago. It is amazing what people don’t realize what they have. You just don’t know what you can find unless you look.

Dazed and Coinfused

I haven’t seen Canadian money in a while in change. Too bad arcades mostly give tokens from their change machines now. Bet a few 20s worth of quarters would make for a fun hunt. I also haven’t seen a quarter super glued in high traffic area on the carpet to see how many people try to pick it up, or funnier still how long they make an effort. Even funnier when they try to pick up the other quarter glued to carpet a little farther away. Gluing a quarter in a Aldi cart is also a trip. While it is… Read more »

Face 1004

Actually, some of the foreign coins I found in change was Netherlands 10 cent? Size of dime. Not a Euro. Also, a Bahamas proof cent. The only Canadian coinage I find is cents recently, mostly from 70’s and 80’s.

Craig

The only coins I ever find are when I’m walking the rural roads, and even then they’re scarce. I’m glad I grew up when silver coins could still be readily found in change. We used to find rolls of Mercury dimes, Franklin halves and Washington quarters all in glorious silver. I still have many of those finds, so to speak, as I obviously had to pay our bank for each roll. Man, those were the times.

Why no mint sales info for last 2 weeks???

Dazed and Coinfused

Because they haven’t sold any. I think Ben crump said it is now illegal for white people to own even black coins, he called it modern day SAVERy. I can’t keep up with it anymore. I still think making more coins to celebrate one woman is an insult when you will be releasing a commemorative to honor the greatest generation a few weeks later. But something tells me the great gen are gonna fly off the shelves.

Craig

Why is there no coin design for the ‘greatest generation’ commemorative on the mint web page? Are they redesigning it to include more of the truly greatest, you know, Malcolm X, Huey P Newton, Bobby Seale, the Reverend Al Sharpton, etc. Maybe they should press it in a 5oz size to get all on the obverse. I can’t see them flying off the shelves if they’re not incorporating DEI in them. Besides, biden would be pissed and might have to utter some more F-bombs! And why are they not pricing the Liberty & Britannia Gold coin? Are they that terrified… Read more »

Honestly, probably not so much about planchet gold cost as it is whether or not hsn will have free shipping that week or not. And with all these wildfires, it’s pushing up the cost of red oak boxes. Don’t forget charles Lindbergh, the Taylor swift of his time. Not see sympathizer and also believed to have plotted to have his own son kidnapped and killed because he was autistic, a sign of weakness to the Germans,. Who were socialists by the way. I bought a Lizzo coin. Weighed it to be sure it was real because the slab had a sticker for just $30. It weighed 5 oz. I was like whoa. This is too good to be true. Then the dude said said naw, it’s really just a 1 oz coin, but because she so big the shadow add an extra 4 oz
