In Thursday’s precious metals prices, gold and silver experienced modest losses, while platinum and palladium registered solid gains.
Gold for April delivery declined by $3.60, or 0.2%, to settle at $2,030.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"We see gold stay at these levels and there is more downside risks to gold in the short term than upside" if we get more positive data on the U.S. economy and if inflation doesn’t continue to ease, Reuters quoted Chris Gaffney, president of world markets at EverBank.
Gold futures traded between $2,029.30 and $2,045.50. They shed 0.3% on Wednesday, and they rose by 0.8% at the start of the trading week on Tuesday.
Down for a third time after three sessions of exceptional gains, March silver settled down 9 cents, or 0.4%, to $22.784 an ounce. Silver futures ranged from $22.76 to $23.20. They fell by 1.1% on Wednesday and they declined by 1.4% on Tuesday.

April platinum advanced by $15.90, or 1.8%, to $905.50 an ounce, trading between $888.60 and $909.60.
- Palladium for March delivery tacked on $20.30, or 2.1%, to $970.20 an ounce, ranging from $946 to $978.
