Last week, the United States Mint began selling rolls and bags of 2024 Patsy Takemoto Mink quarters. The U.S. Mint’s latest sales figures show how these products performed in their early stages.
The Patsy Takemoto Mink quarter marks the twelfth installment in the Mint’s four-year coin series, and the second one this year dedicated to commemorating the achievements of American women. Released on March 28, the combined roll and bag options totaled 1,919,240 quarters over four days. This compares to 2,010,460 quarters sold during the same number of starting sales days for the first 2024 quarter honoring Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray.
Both figures represent a slower start than any of the five quarters released in 2023, with their sales debuts ranging from 2,141,420 coins for the 2023 Maria Tallchief quarter to 2,745,380 coins for the 2023 Bessie Coleman quarter. The total is higher than any of the five quarters released in 2022, but this is not a fair comparison as the Mint offered fewer than 1.8 million for each of them.
Elsewhere, the U.S. Mint’s second best-selling product was the 2024 Proof Set, which just completed its second full week of sales. The set opened with a four-day starting sales figure of 198,409, climbed by an additional 7,391 in the following first entire week, and then rose by 3,429 in the subsequent week, bringing its total sales to 209,229.
Finally, 2024 Greatest Generation Commemorative Coins continued to maintain top sales positions, as they have since pre-orders opened on Feb. 29. They saw additional support last week as buyers sought to purchase them before their discounted pricing ended on March 29.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 437 numismatic products. The data revealed that 67 products outperformed their sales from the previous week, compared to 92 in the prior report. Five products experienced a week-over-week increase of more than 1,000 units, compared to 1 in the previous report.
In addition, 8 products recorded negative weekly sales, compared to 6 in the previous report, all experiencing modest reductions. For the second week in a row, the 2024-P Liberty & Britannia Silver Medal, which is no longer sold, experienced the greatest decline, this time sliding by 16.

That would be a good thing, a Mule! We are overdue. Regarding this Mink Quarter–Perhaps a “Double Pen”, or a “Doubled Thumb Variety”. I’ll bet the variety/error searchers are looking for something as we speak!
On another front with these Mink Quarters, based on the photo of the actual coin above, shows no indication of your “type 1 Obverse” theory so far. Further study may be required…

I love the trend line on the Liberty & Britannia gold – down another five coins. Maybe the Mint is actually going to hold the line on reselling returns or selling more coins.
REB, it is a very low mintage for 24YA if it holds (5,498), which I suspect it will. Down the road, I wonder if it will compare with 19DA (10,194 mintage) or 21DA (12,471 mintage) in terms of dealer retail prices. Both of these are high relief, whereas 24YA is not. Additionally, 21DA was Coin of the Year. APMEX is selling 19DA for $3,062.90 (w box and coa) and 21DA for $6,795 (w box and coa). Major D, Allow me to beg to differ just a tad on the 24YA and it’s High Relief Strike.. I’ve been following this coin since the press release of its release(so to speak). I in fact, have ordered 2 of them.. They are indeed Struck in High Relief as described within the Mint page description itself. Also note that it carries the $100 face value, etc. on the Reverse. However one would never know, given the very bland, uninspiring Mint Rendering/Artwork provided, not to mention that “High Relief” has been omitted from it’s own Title. Rick, thanks for clarifying! I was just going off the title and the stock photos on the Mint site. I should have read more. In reading the fine print you are indeed correct: “This collectible coin is sculpted in 24K Gold high relief, further highlighting the very special designs.” I also agree with you that the high relief will have a wow factor when seen in hand. I hope all who bought one or more will enjoy and have success with it. It certainly has the makings of a special and rare coin.

Yes, it’s from 1962. I must confess I grabbed the above photos from on-line because mine is in a box stowed away. I’ve never had it tested but I believe it’s silver, as identified in a Smithsonian Air + Space Museum entry, that you can find if you Google: Smithsonian Medal, Commemorative, Friendship 7, Spacecraft Medals A19731515000 I bought a box of space memorabilia years ago from someone in Florida. It has NASA patches of missions from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s including the shuttles- plus Mercury, Gemini and Apollo medals. The early 60’s medals seem to all be silver.… Read more »
