Last week, on April 8, the U.S. Mint released rolls and bags containing Innovation dollars for Alabama. These $1 coins feature a design depicting a Saturn V rocket lifting off against the background of the Moon.
Offered in options of 25-coin rolls and 100-coin bags, priced at $34.50 and $117.50 respectively, the products logged starting sales of a combined 980,800 coins — the highest debut for the series introduced in 2018. That said, it wouldn’t be surprising if the total takes a step or two back in the coming weeks, before heading higher again. For example, this year’s first dollar from the series, which celebrates Innovation from Illinois, opened with sales of a combined 801,250 coins, but was adjusted lower a week later to 782,900 coins.
Each of the Alabama dollar products was a top weekly seller for the U.S. Mint, occupying spots 1 through 4.
Sales Decline Again for 2024 Proof Set
Meanwhile, for the second consecutive week, sales of the clad 2024 Proof Set have declined. Since its release on March 14, the set initially garnered 198,406 sales over four days, followed by weekly changes of +7,391, +3,429, -820, and the latest decline of -9,881. The set’s total now stands at 198,528. Earlier shipped sets did have the problem of errors in their Certificates of Authenticity, which could explain some the downward movement in sales.

Weekly sales for 2023 Peace Uncirculated $ just increased by 1,500, after being unavailable for some time. No explanation, no fanfare, just an increase of a nice large number. This is what I absolutely hate about the Mint- NO TRANSPARENCY. New product or found product? Where did they come from? Who did they go to? What’s going on? Yet another accounting fix? More likely, another kind of fix- as in, “the fix is in”.
L&B is down four more coins. Also, I know it’s personal preference here, but I like the Peace dollar design much more than the Morgan. Yet, the Morgan outsells the Peace. Do we just not like peace these days?
I’m with you, REB. The Peace $ is one classy coin design.
Agree, I saw the reverse proofs, easy PASS
I’m on the Peace train w/you REB.
Lol. Peace, love & understanding, my brother.
Fishy sales for the 2.5 z Ag medals, 100s sold never seen them offered of late and my reminder never reminded….insider…accounting trix
Yes, peculiar isn’t it? 413 Marine medals just appeared and were sold out of nowhere. I was on the notify list as well- no notice. On the flip side, the Mint can just up and end something without any notice, too. Like the GHW Bush C+C set (20PA). I made a note back on Feb 6, 2022 when sales were 6,694 that the available-count was 25,008 indicating a projected mintage of 34,702. Now the sales are 11,512 and it’s no longer available. WTH? But now you can sign up and be put on a list to be notified when it’s… Read more »
Oh boy? Yesterday we reviewed designs for the Native American coin for 2026. Today, I’ll post a link for an assured article, in the works from Mike Unser/Coin News. Sorry to say, these designs submitted to the CCAC leave a lot to be desired IMO. The artists that were hired should be required to attend a US Coin & History class or something, prior to being able to submit drawings IMO. I know we’re are trying to change things up and Innovate, but…. Ouch on more than a few. Thankfully, of the 2-3 decent attempts, 1 of those, will “hopefully”… Read more »
Agreed – we need a divorce from modern designs – these things are going to stick out like the bright orange high pile shag carpet from the 70’s in a few years.
They are just pitiful and lack class.
That was painful to the eyes. Maybe leave the obverse blank vs ruining a perfectly good gold planchet with these designs. Otherwise, Perhaps a Spirograph image would be an option too.
Thank you for sharing the link with 2025 Liberty designs proposals. I only like 3 of them( both and one with chisel). Hand with the torch design looks like Biden holding his favorite . Few headlines back you asked me if I have Spouse’s Liberty subset or entire collection, and I didn’t have a chance to answer. In 2007 Martha Washington coin was my second gold coin I purchased from the US Mint(Jamestown was the first) and I was buying every single unc and proof one since then. I own entire collection of unc and proof coins with some extra… Read more »
After both was Buffalo emoji and after favorite was ice cream emoji.
Salute & respect! I’ve got the complete proof set of the spouses series. I’ve always favored proof coins even though uncirculated coins are probably better investments given their generally lower mintages.
Kudos to you as well REB! That is an accomplishment of commitment and patience, not to mention a great investment✔️ Only so many Full Proof sets can be obtained. Prices & desirability, unlike in years past for those are only going up from here on out IMO.
Thanks. I agree with your assessment of the set’s future value (not that I would ever sell it). My kids will be happy if you and I are correct.
Good day everyone, I, too feel none of these are worthy of considering. The only one I liked was the Buffalo breaking thru the fence. The other designs are basically pathetic and I’m actually very surprised any of these would even be considered. Some look like Saturdays cartoon characters. Worse Libertys I’ve ever seen. I’m still awaiting my 23 Peace Dollars that finally got out of “Pending” status at PCGS. This submission is holding me up for listing some sets. I’ve been doing some selling on eBay already. I hadn’t sold anything in a while so I had to relearn… Read more »
I agree with you. The fence-bustin’ buffalo may be the best in the lot.
After more time to digest these obverse designs, what is up with the “Alien African American Pride Marcher”, done on a “Spirograph”???(AML-08-O-16 — 2025 American Liberty Gold Coin and Silver Medal – Obverse) LOL Seems to be missing something? Police? Bear? Hurdle? Drum Major Mace? I’m super confused… Is this the DEI design? How could this even make it to the selection process? I’m sorry and not trying to be mean or inconsiderate towards this artist. Just saying…
CaliSkier, I’m with you on these designs being awful, but please don’t pile on with the DEI nonsense. This concept of Liberty, aka Columbia, the female embodiment of the USA, is a cartoonish comical thing anyways. Might as well be Uncle Sam, or Santa Claus (the American one) or JC (the American one as well). Nothing DEI about it. As a country we care more about the symbol than the actual thing. And count me in the “I’m sorry and not trying to be mean or inconsiderate …. Just saying…” category as well.
And yet you adore the Peace Dollar, of which you just described her as a cartoonish comical thing…
I think you may have insulted many more people than you might ever realize, myself included… My symbol in my Country?? Freedom and ‘Liberty’…
Count me in the “I’m sorry and not trying to be mean or inconsiderate …. Just saying…
Yes, I favor the Peace over the Morgan- that’s what the discussion was about. I was providing my subjective take on a coin design, Rick. Yes, the depiction of liberty as a graphic representation of a person, in this case the female embodiment of our country, is not a real thing. It is a made-up thing.
Thank you, I’ll take that as a ‘let’s just move on’ moment. It’s all good if we all can keep some things/beliefs to ourselves(me included)..
Next article–your 2015-S Proof set is a topic of discussion(if you can find it!?)
There are definitely a few DEI influenced designs….art deco kinda even
LOL Sorry for making “light” of this rendering, however, the creative strokes at least, spark my imagination? After taking a closer and a more thorough look, can you say or see, a “PEZ” dispenser? Then I thought of those Nat Geo magazines from the 70’s(?) with pictures of members of an African tribe, stacking rings progressively over time around their neck, in order to elongate, ala the Giraffe. Next my eyes were pulled to the line art/work. Then things started appearing of all sorts. Similar in a way to the, “Rorschach test”. (Perception of inkblots) Can you “find the”, is… Read more »
CaliSkier, the human race has been seeing things in dots and blots for as long as we’ve been on the planet. We’re hard-wired that way. Just look at the constellations in the night sky.
Without further ado, for any curious about the reverse designs: “CCAC Meeting Images for the 2025 American Liberty Gold Coin and Silver Medal – Reverse April 16-17, 2024” (Link below) Again, how did some of these artists and designs get into this program? I’ll say again, no disrespect meant. Is it just me or? I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, however??? Absolutely love Sally Field and I was definitely a Mary Ann fan! East Coast Guru, sorry about your eyes. LOL You should be cross eyed, by the time your done looking at the below… Read more »
I’d consider 11 thru 16 and throw the rest out.
Darek I’ll take 3 obv. designs as you did. #1 has a shot(for me) since she’s very reminiscent of the 2015 HR Gold..But her hands are just too dominant. Her guns are also overdone, similar to the Rosie Rivet Medal gal. Nice work on the Spouse coins-not an easy task by any stretch! They will pay off in Spades to whomever you leave them with.. AK I’m in the same eBay boat–I’m trading up! Not a peep from our Lib/Brit seller on my end.. Cali, thanks. The #5 obv. is indeed a joke. At least 10 of the reverses gotta… Read more »
Awful reverse selection, looks like HannaBarbara did it for a kiddy koin….Funny, everyone who poopooed the First Spouse purchases can see that spot has made them winners…..Julia Tyler oh bouy
Regarding the reverses, #15 thru 04 look like they were designed by Marvel for another upcoming lame movie. Or it’s from a James Bond movie and it is SPECTRE’s logo. Some of the other reverses are decent and can look good on a coin.
Mary-Ann.
Sally Field as the Flying Nun.
Well, there you have it.
I could never look at Sally the same way after the Bandit movie.
She was so young and innocent as the Nun. She Matured quite nicely I think.
Mary-Ann in a landslide…
Also my poster of Farrah in her Red Swimsuit–Matured me up very quickly…
New numbers are out and little changed for Alabama Coins. Yet hundreds were for sale Saturday morning 4-19 and currently over 99 for sale of each item now.
Kudos, Mike Unser, on one of your most clever column headlines ever. Loved it!
