2024 S Proof Silver Kennedy Halves are now available as “Pre-Sale” on eBay.

With the 2024 American Women Quarters Proof Sets coming in rather strong at number ten on this week’s Mint Sales roster while the number of 2024 American Women SILVER Proof Sets sold declined by well over four thousand it would appear that the U.S. Mint’s ever higher precious metal pricing practices are beginning to make themselves felt, and not in a necessarily good way.
Kaiser, Kaiser, Kaiser – Welcome back, brother! You’ve been missed. A new avatar?
Thank you so very much for your enthusiastic greeting, Major D; I’m extremely happy to be back! And yes, that is the real me here to smile at all my friends!
Welcome back, Kaiser Wilhelm. I missed your sunny presence. Feeling better, I hope. Sorry, I have to ask but Dazed SENZA immediately blamed me for you leaving. Since you deleted all your comments, nobody could tell what caused you to leave. All I could do was show the last post I exchanged with you. It didn’t seem inflammatory, but only you know your reasons. I told them the only person who knows why you left was you, and I was going to wait to hear your reasons before I decide who was the cause. I thought it was more likely… Read more »
Warmest greetings to you, Jeff Legan, and rest assured you had absolutely nothing to do with my sabbatical. I had simply been worn down by the then seemingly constant animosity and really needed to take a break from what was becoming an unhealthy environment. Things appear to be nice an peaceful now and it’s great to see the concentration on actual coin talk. Cheers and hooray!
Jeff Logan, good to see you back as well, and hear you’ve been monitoring in the background.
Welcome back, my good man. Like Major D said, “You’ve been missed”. Hope you plan to stay awhile. For the most part, politics appears to have taken a second seat here to actual coin talk. It’s refreshing.
Thank you kindly, REB, and I must say that not only is it heartwarming to know I was missed but the feeling most definitely goes both ways, which is to say I truly missed all of you as well. As far as my staying here, considering the current peaceful ambience of the site I see no reason to do otherwise.
Woah! Welcome back! This is just as earth moving as the little earthquake we had here an hour ago.

I’m feeling overwhelmed by all the fantastic greetings at my return, The Kings714, but in a good way. I’m thrilled to be back among my favorite fellow collectors!
Sir Kaiser, we sure have missed you! It’s so good to see you’re back in the saddle again.
That most definitely goes both ways, Rich! I’m so happy to be riding the range again with you and all of our compadres in this always amazing coin posse!
Rich, good to see you back as well. Sorry if I’m late to noticing your posts if you’ve active commenting lately prior to this.
Major D, thank you for the kind welcome. Now that you and Sir Kaiser are back on site, I do plan on actively commenting more often.
Rich,
And what would we do without you? It’s really great to have the gang back together! Go forth my brothers, let’s get out there and collect!
Kaiser Wilhelm, awesome to have your presence in our midst agin! Hopefully you’ll stay awhile if possible? I miss the witty exchanges of times past! I must say the first thing that came to mind seeing your pictured avatar, was a patient I’d grown quite fond of, that I used to treat. His first name was Freidl. I can’t recall his last name, however he was German, through and through! LOL He had quite an amusing sense of humor, which I immensely enjoyed, much like all of my previous exchanges with you! I hope we see more of your presence,… Read more »
Like.
I have no plans but to settle in here nicely for the duration and such warm “welcome back” sentiments as yours, Caliskier, only serve to cement my thoughts in that direction. I understand our primary purpose here is to discuss our hobby, but the ongoing touches of humor can only serve to enhance the feelings of communality and camaraderie at work (play?) here. Yes, my Germanic heritage is not something I can hide, no more so now than when I was a blond little Austrian boy in good old Wien (Vienna). As for the Prost, I haven’t imbibed in decades,… Read more »
Kaiser, My mother’s side of the family left Germany around 1802 and settled in Manhattan. The two young brothers saw all of the whale blubber laying around the docks, took it home, pressed it, and found that it was a flammable oil. They sold it to the City of NY to light the street lamps of the city. Later, they did the same thing with pine tree sap and a standard company was born. They later moved to the gold coast. Later, dined with JDR and sold. Over the years, a tool co and an aircraft engine co. Some served… Read more »
E 1, What an interesting story, one of innovation, industry and success. I know that my father’s side of the family settled in Chicago and established a bread and butter pickle business there; what happened to them post WWI I have no idea. As far as the first wanderer to these shores from my mother’s side, that would be me. I first arrived here in 1953 for a stay Chicago, in 1959 for a period in San Francisco and finally in 1965 made my way to Massachusetts by way of Michigan and I’ve been here ever since. While it’s not… Read more »
LOL, Speaking of Parties Jeff! I’m a member of the Block, B-Day, Christmas, Dinner, Cocktail, Beach, Wedding, Garden, Surprise, Pool, Pizza, Dance, Pre/After, Toga, Animal HOUSE PARTY! Please don’t be offended anyone, as political parties were left out intentionally, as they are a complete turnoff and “no fun”/lame IMO, when compared to the parties I’m a member of! LOL
4,358 AWQ’s Ag PF Sets back into inventory? So, what do these weekly sales reports actually indicate? Cancellations? Actual returns? Big Boy/ABPP, post in house grading rejections and returns? Flippers remorse? FOMO, utilization, by numbers manipulation Game Club? That is a huge number of returns/negative sales. What is it exactly that these weekly numbers actually represent? As usual, due to lack of transparency, as well as clarity perceived, these numbers should be “tossed out the window” IMO or at the very least, be consumed, with a 5.5lb salt lick vs grain of
salt.
… and eight more dropped the L&B gold for some reason … or no reason … or maybe they didn’t drop the coins at all. Who knows?
The title of the listing is “Latest reported mint SALES” of mint numismatic products . As usual with any governmental agency you cannot expect the numbers to be correct! They are well known for dramatic revisions and seasonal adjustments to all kinds of reports. Please note the word “reported”. Not actual sales. Not completed sales(CC accepted and order paid). And maybe there are a lot of dyslexic or fat fingered sales reporters. In short, it is what it is. I do wonder if anyone there has any concern or understanding of the random huge negative reports. Does anyone look into… Read more »
The returns and how they work – the negative numbers –
Now that’d be a GREAT news article for someone to author and write so we would all know.
Hopefully it will happen!!
Totally agree. That’s something I’d like to see.
Yes, and an additional concern is when the latest reported sales for a product exceed the stated limit, and there is still product available to “Add To Bag”.
Wow, the 4 coin AGE set is priced at $5980.00. Thank God it’s not $6K! I’ll have to check out some of the coin shows to see how much more they add to this ‘golden’ price. I’m glad that I bought the 1st year set of the new design, but I’ll pass on these.
I’m in. I’ve got every one of the proofs in this series back to 1986 (including the WWII privy mark coin). Can’t stop now.
Do you have all of the 4-Coin sets? That’s some collection to have and I wouldn’t stop either if I were you. I have several, including the fractional sets of Buffalo’s, so I’m entirely satisfied. I tried to get the WWII privy coin but got shut out. Glad that you were able to snag one.
I have all of the 4-coin sets. I couldn’t get the privy coin from the Mint. I, too, got shut out. I got one later for about $8k. Ouch, that hurt! But I saw a fairly reputable site a few months ago that had the price for the coin at $25,000. That made me feel a little bit better.
Reb, that is an awesome collection you’ve assembled over the years! When you say: “I’ve got every one of the proofs in this series”, does that tally include the fractionals(1/10, 1/4, 1/2oz’ers) as well, I’m guessing yes? Also, curious, sorry if I missed it before(?), we’re you lucky enough to score one of the 2020 v75’s from the Mint or did you have to go to the secondary market? Either way, sweet collection to say the least! Also curious if you picked up the “End of World War II 75th Anniversary 24-Karat Gold Coin“, which was marketed as: “Half-ounce gold… Read more »
“does that tally include the fractionals(1/10, 1/4, 1/2oz’ers) as well” Yes. “we’re you lucky enough to score one of the 2020 v75’s from the Mint or did you have to go to the secondary market? “ Secondary market. “Also curious if you picked up the “End of World War II 75th Anniversary 24-Karat Gold Coin“” Yes. “I guess in a way you have the “Midas Touch”!” That’s probably a blessing and a curse. “Lastly, have you also been picking up the American Liberty gold coins as well?” Yes. Anything proof in a precious metal since 1960, I’ve got it. I’m… Read more »
Too funny Craig, as I was composing, you were posting/wondering the same thing! LOL Congratulations on your Buffalos. I couldn’t quite convince myself to pull the trigger on those; due to my financials not being sufficient, to warrant a purchase. Those 2008 Unc & PF Buffalo 4-coin sets are coins I truly wish I had in my accumulation/collection. I hemmed and hawed over the “Double Prosperity” set and that was difficult to not extend, via credit card, my debt at the time. I’d started going all in on silver products at the Mint and e-bay and recognized, thankfully, that carrying… Read more »
CaliSkier, I must say that I’ve been there and done that, too. IMO, in buying coins for a collection, investment, or business you should not only consider the initial cost to purchase, but also the finance cost (if you’re carrying CC debt), the year-to-year inflation cost and current resale costs as a gauge to know if you’re actually accruing any value, and the opportunity cost (what you’re losing out on by having the money tied up in a safe or on a shelf, e.g. savings or CD interest, other investments, home improvements, etc.). Then there’s the selling cost and the… Read more »
CaliSkier, I was lucky with those fractional sets of Buffalo’s, as I had no idea that they would be a one-only (at least to date) from the mint. I love the Buffalo design, both obverse and reverse, and never hesitated in buying them. My only regret is that I didn’t buy more sets. I’ve also been shut out in the competition for an item being offered from the mint on more times than I’d like to remember, but that’s what makes it interesting to me. Concerning REB, I’d say there is a new Fort Knox being built somewhere in America.… Read more »
“Concerning REB, I’d say there is a new Fort Knox being built somewhere in America. That’s certainly an impressive collection indeed!”
Thanks. I enjoy it and I love the look of proof coins. However, I sometimes wonder if I should have collect uncirculated coins. They’re generally rarer with lower mintages. Too late to go back now (at least not without bringing down the wrath of the wife).
