The United States Mint’s latest numismatic sales data through June 2 was somewhat lackluster, due in part to the absence of any new product releases since mid-May.
When looking at its most sold products for the week, proof coins and proof sets dominated the list again, which also included a smattering of silver-minted products, though fewer than in other recent weeks.
Here is the roster of the U.S. Mint’s most sought-after numismatic products for the week ending on June 2:
- 2024 Proof Set (+1,786 to 216,798)
- 2022-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle (+1,320 to 164,601)
- 2024-W Proof Silver Eagle (+876 to 251,704)
- 2022 American Innovation Dollar Proof Set (+507 to 80,503)
- 2019 Silver Proof Set (+300 to 414,008)
- 2023 American Innovation Dollar Proof Set (+254 to 55,588)
- 2024 Congratulations Set (+251 to 22,833)
- 2022 Silver Proof Set (+250 to 249,325)
- 2021 Silver Proof Set (+250 to 303,847)
- 2023 American Innovation Dollar Reverse Proof Set (+231 to 37,842)
In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 455 numismatic products. The data revealed that 40 products outperformed their sales from the previous week, compared to 53 in the prior report. Two products experienced week-over-week increases of more than 1,000 units, compared to 5 in the prior report.
In addition, 9 products recorded negative weekly sales, the same as in the previous report. The reductions ranged from 1 to 77 units, with the latter tagged to the 2024-P Liberty & Britannia Silver Medal.

My lucky raw $50 Extra “V” 1C MS-67 came back with the obverse facing forward!
I’m loving it, but wonder why, as you do, that they(like NGC) choose the reverse of the coin to go on the front(label side)of the holder as well. Almost randomly it seems.

Agree. Very odd. Especially since the extra V is the main event and is on the obverse to boot. Perhaps at PCGS there is an open keg of beer in the lunch room which they are imbibing a bit to much during the grading day.

That’s it? And how much are you paying for this “service”? The default should be obverse up. The person submitting the coin should have to specifically request anything that deviates from the default.
REB that’s it! I, speaking for myself had not known this until today. The two coins above were random purchases. My V submission(up top)was sent back to me like that–proper face forward/up. It is their default placement of the coin. I asked for the coin to be graded–that’s it. Apparently one can request the coin to be reverse forward/up. No charge whatsoever. No price is listed for a simple flip of the coin on their forms either. One would think so, REB, but “should” and “does” are different.
E 1, does anyone know how many of the extra “V” the Mint made, and how many might still be in the wild? I’m assuming it was done over the course of a production run and there must have been thousands generated.

The mintage is still unknown and unreported by the mint. The current graded population from all three TPGs is less than 600.
Seven of the top 10 sellers are dated before 2024? And the Silver Proof sets from 2022, 2021 and 2019(!?!?!?!) are still for sale? What in the world? The storage facilities for the Mint must be larger than Amazon’s and Wal-Mart’s.
Come on, Mint, start melting this stuff down. If I were a dealer, I’d resent competing with the Mint for older coin sales.
REB, I wonder if these 2019s could be another sweetheart deal to a FOM (Friend of Mint), whether they included the W reverse cent, and what price was paid (likely not $130). Because 2019 silver sets are not available to you or me. Likewise, the 2022-W Uncirculated ASE is not available to you and me at the Mint. Incidentally, this is the second time that a bunch (+1,320) of these were sold (on May 26 it was +2,899 taking the total to 163,281) — now the total is 164,601, never mind that the product limit is 160,000. Thanks for the information and the well-reasoned buying strategy. Unfortunately, I’m not that disciplined or patient. I can’t wait. I have to have the coins NOW. I respect your approach. I just can’t get myself to do it.

I can be entirely disciplined and patient on some occasions and/or days and totally lacking discipline and patience on other occasions and/or days. The thing is, whenever I decide to buy coins I’m in the latter state of mind.
How is it possible that someone is selling a 2024 silver Kennedy half (in hand) on Ebay 18 days before the silver proof set is to release?
That, Ken T, is the question we here have not only been asking since we first discovered this but have also since then shared innumerable speculative “solutions” about.
According to the PCGS website, 86 coins have graded PF 70 while 14 have graded PF 69. High percentge of perfection.
