I assume to actually visit after 12pm on thursday for the link? it’s not there yet from what i can see…
c_q,
If the Mint could just for once get something right it would be a cause for rejoicing!
c_q, the email I received said “We will email you a link to the special customer appreciation sales event the morning of 9/19/2024.” It leads me to think that if you do not get the email then you are not eligible for the sale. I mean, it is stated to be a “special customer appreciation sales event”. If anyone can get access, then it’s not as advertised.
Major D,
I guess I won’t know until after this event occurs as to whether I really missed out on something good or I was one of the fortunate folks to be spared the pain.
Reporting from Kihei Maui…..Well, from a ex USM customer, starting in 1968 goodwill ain’t there biz, it’s selling rejects and overpriced stuff to lemming and feeding the big boys
John Q.Coinage,
“it’s selling rejects and overpriced stuff to lemming and feeding the big boys”
Much as I don’t want to believe that is what the Mint does, it pretty much is.
Kaiser I WAS the biggest m8nt promoter & mega customer. I got so po’d over BS, site access issues, mintage schenanagans, secret sales of stuff @3am including Enhanced Rev ASE as a mistake they did not cancel, they have cancelled ordered of mine in a heartbeat…..they can…..
c_q,
I don’t see that at “my copy” of the US Mint site. Perhaps it’s “Customer Fleecing Sale”.
Kaiser, as gramps said ….”REVERAND”. Clad prof sets 29.99 SALE
John Q. Coinage,
Could us some help here. I don’t know what REVERAND means.
“Use” not “us”, obviously. Wot uh dummie!
Typo schmipo, sorry Kaiser, gotta keep us users useful..
This will be a chance to see if the Mint can or even wants to hold off the Big Buyers from scooping up the great majority of the products available during this sale.
Hint: You might not want to hold your breath; blue is not an attractive color on people.
Spoken like a true Spartan. Maize+Blue not doing so well this year, whereas Sparty is 3-0. Just sayin’
Major D,
Thank you for that awesome reference. Go Green, Go White! As for the hoity-toity folks over in Ann Arbor, falling off such a lofty perch isn’t fun, is it?
Kaiser sale starts at 3am PDT for the big uns. How many of those 2018 10th z fuguly slugs exist
John Q. Coinage,
Considering the much lower price of gold back in 2018, I’m not sure the Mint isn’t still selling those little ducats at a more than decent profit. Anyway, spaving (spending money to save money) is not a winning strategy, especially if it’s something you wouldn’t have had any interest in buying in the normal course of events.
I passed on that @190…..I did not like the design, I did get a silver medal one eBay for $33, it is very nice….
I can’t believe some mints sell 1/25 oz gold coins. What’s the point?
I have hot dogs for sale, all meat, only $22 but I have a sale for next week. $19, no bun included Visit a Ventris Dogs DC NW Corner 18th and Schtupped U street
Sounds like a local restaurant ad from the Wuhan Gazette.
It’s from DC. Driving there is fun. A traffic light at every intersection and they aren’t synchronized. 😛
Back in Deutschland (Germany) you could go forever without stopping for a red light if you were synchronized with the Gruene Welle (Green Wave).
Synchronized, LA claims that a major Street Ventura Blvd. is synced, yeah hit EVERY, FRIGGIN EVERY red light when u go 35, go 66 make them, and LAPD no longer writes many tix, no longer “just” The Mayor ordered cops to not give tickets for most traffic offenses, nor ever engage the homeless unless necessary. She’s running for re-election already, likely won already as it appears LA Registrar fixes votes, he was fired i Washington state for such allegations. LA Supervisors went and hired him asap…. Coins nahhh autobahn Ya!
John Q. Coinage, When I was an Army brat living in West Germany my military family had an eight-seater VW Microbus with a max highway speed of 100kph, so we would be trucking down the Autobahn in the slow lane doing the equivalent of 60mph while Porches and Jags shot by at 200kph or just a bit above 120mph. After I moved to the USA and my dad had passed away my mom bought herself a Mercedes instead and took to zipping down the Autobahn at 160kph, which is about 100mph. I was never there for that, and in restrospect… Read more »
We used to Zip and race on Highway 395 on the way to Mammoth, until a CHP cop who looked like Telly Sava
as nailed 3 cars at once….
Telly Salvalas…. When I typed Telly, AI CN changed to “reply”….wtf
The article says “Additionally, bags and rolls of coins will be available at currency value, with a $1 surcharge for rolls and a $5 surcharge for bags.”
This was not included in the email I received. But if this means AI$ and NA$ rolls of 25 coins for $26 (vs $34.50 current price) or AWQ 100-coin bag for $30 (vs. $45 current price) or Kennedy 200-bag for $105 (vs. $147 current price)– this might be worth pursuing IMO if you have free loyalty shipping. Especially the crimped rolls which you know have not been searched.
yeah, I didn’t see that in the email I got either. perhaps I am not special’ enough.
also I noted that it didn’t mention boxes on discount, just bags and rolls
c_q,
I’m apparently even less special than you are since I didn’t get the email at all.
Now I see what’s really happening here. The Mint figured out how to divide us and thereby set us against each other as a way of putting us back in our place.
I also got nothing, not even a feel around from Ventri$…. The rolls stuff sounds like an actual deal. Only for those who overpay most times for mint trinkets. Maybe I’m too alienated as I fired the mint years ago. From $10k a year to. ZERO, stocks …. The spell correct on this, site is full. Crazy I typed stocks, they changed it to LOX
John Q. Coinage,
As I was reading about this alleged/supposed/possible Mint sale that I myself have received not a single note about from the powers that be or not to be, I did catch a whiff from others here regarding the sale of rolls at cost plus a buck; now that sounded like something I might actually be interested in. But, with no indications whatsoever from Ventris that I’m invited to her big dance I guess this is just another Mint happening that I can watch or not watch as the case may be from a distance.
The cynic in me says this is the Mint trying to cook the books (not clear out warehouse space), specifically the 2024 Annual Report for FY24 which ends Sept 30. We all know that there have been reduced sales across the board for 2024, and this could make the sales revenue number look much better. But it’s kicking the can down the road, as the same problem will happen next year.
Major D,
My pre-November vote goes to you for exposing the Mint’s real motivation for this “sale”.
Customer Appreciation my a**! More like the mint is opening a new store – The Coin Outlet Store.
Get your rejects here! (All sales final – the big giveaway on intent).
Major D’s comment is an out-of-the- park home run!!!!!!!!
the fine print says ‘no refunds – all sales final – products sold as-is’, which is different than their usual return policy, so it does strongly imply these are returned items or way-too-much-on-hand
c_q,
One doesn’t exclude the other. I’m going with “way-too-much-on-hand returned items.”
Plenty of Sacagawea coin & currency sets with toned glazed $1 and FRN upside down
I think I might have gotten one of those along the way but I would have to do a deep search through the miscellaneous coinage department of my coin collection to locate it and that sounds like far too much fuss, bother and above all effort at the moment.
DaveSWFL,
I think I must have glossed over the fine print where it said “All credit for this extraordinary purchase opportunity goes to our new consulting Chief Mint Sales Fabricator Mr. Mike Sold Out Limited Edition Red Oak Box Bargain Bonanza Mezack.”
5 ounce pucks are currently priced at $455. At 30% off it’s $318.5 which is still ridiculously high for these pucks. Dealers at shows are trying to unload them for $225 and still no takers. Maybe there might be something to pick up but it will be few and far between.
East Coast Guru,
50% off for the 5 ounce silver ATB pucks would have been more palatable but still too rich for my taste for this kind of “you keep what you get” sale. Not interested.
Or they could just lower the cost on their coins. But then that makes sense. Can’t have that nonsense.
Antonio,
Of course we can’t. Sense makes no sense at the place that still makes cents.
Bought my last pucks when the burnished were $154.95…..
Only bought one ever. Hockey isn’t one of my favorite sports.
Now that was a fair and reasonable price!
ECG,
They might be overpriced (I don’t think so because I have a lot of them in my safe) but folks sure have scarfed all of them up! I see all are with the ‘remind me’ tag. I know a lot of folks don’t like them because they couldn’t afford them, just like you don’t see everyone out wearing Rolex watches. I’ll bet they’d like to have one though!
Quote from Caity Weaver in the New York Times Magazine:
We just keep minting pennies because no one uses the pennies we mint.
Kaiser — I had never bought a Mint’s bag of coins before but recently did so for another reason. I bought a $100 Bag ($117 delivered) of the 2024 Louisiana Innovation coins just to see just how bad that packing would be. Hold the phone; I’m getting to my point soon. It was just that. Those bagged coins had more small scratches and dents than my numismatic eyes could stomach. I was hoping to find a few that were acceptable but that I guess that was the Pollyanna in me showing through. But they are bright and very shiny and… Read more »
Whoops. Just checked. They are all gone. And they were 2023, not 2024 ….
My dad piloted a Higgins inthe South Pacific in WW2, best run, scored a case of beer in Gavutu, he received a real heroes welcome, and they were not cold…. If he was still w us maybe but o/w no
Mike Hunt, What an incredibly heartwarming story, my friend; I got a really good feeling and some serious goose bumps from reading all of the especially memorable details. You clearly have a very good heart and you also carry a lot of gratitude around with you and the fact that you choose to spread all of that in such a tangible form and consistent manner is a wonderful added bonus. I believe that sharing what we feel and doing what is meaningful is without a doubt the best gift we can give to the people we come into contact with… Read more »
A lot of these coins, especially the gold coins have already been offered to AP’s and Big Dealers! I’ve already seen what they call the “West Point Hoard” coins on Ricks Coin and TV!! Now, the US Mint is offering us common collectors some leftover crumbs! Isn’t that nice of the Mint? No! No!!! NOPE!!! Even with the discount, they are still way overpriced and it’s No Return policy on this Sale means they are offering us the Returns and Crumbs that the AP’s have already turned down. They already have what they want. How thoughtful of the US Mint!… Read more »
AKBob,
To be blunt, after the Big Dealers, Bulk Purchasers and Buying Clubs have gorged themselves at the Mint’s trough there isn’t much left to pick over for us wee little piggies.
And they likely got to return the damaged or stuff they did not like
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they had no limit on how many times they can return an item just as they have no time limits on their returns either.
Here’s a big drawback that I see: those “special customers” that previously paid full price for the Mint products will likely have decreased resale value on those products due to the discounts being offered with this sale.
Major D,
So the question becomes, is it good to be a “special customer” or does it bite the big one?
Kaiser, I’d say it hurts all customers when there is discounted product mixed into the resale market, as a declining tide lowers all boats in this case. Because those that pay less can sell for less, which causes a ripple in the resale prices as buyers seek the lower price.
Excellent point, Major D, and I can imagine this also has a similar negative effect on collectors like myself who don’t as a rule sell any coins but do count on our collections to at the very least maintain their original value.
Just went to USM site, completely fuked up, reload every 10 seconds. I didn’t get an invite so I’m buying NOTHING
Sounds FUBAR to me.
Looks to me like you don’t need an invite. Customer Appreciation Sales Event is up on the Mint’s website now. Click on Shop Now to get in line at the waiting room. So much for a special Mint email link to be emailed this morning….
JC — I first logged into the “WaitRoom” 3 hours before the start of the big sales event. But I inadvertently hit the “refresh” button 45 minutes before it was to start and poof, I was bounced off. So I logged back in losing my place in line. When it started it first said there was a 1 minute wait, and then updated to 30 minutes, and then down to 15 and then 7 … which became about 2. People were obviously dropping off left and right. When I got on I started looking for a couple coins I had… Read more »
Mike, sounds like you were reconnoitering…..the 1z HR 2017 wasn’t a bad price, even with scratches, likely SO within minutes….
Mike Hunt (still makes me laugh, old buddy),
How did you know that ASE was my return; I just can’t hide anything from you!
I got on in time but my OCD kicked me into a repetitive mode that became so circuitous I just couldn’t break free in time to pick up the two AI Rolls I had wanted and I was left with nothing. Serves my badly battered brain cells right!
Saw what was offerred for sale…..passed….also noted..why was i going to be charged for s&h i qualify for free
Domenic Vaiasicca,
That so-called “bargain sale” apparently left pretty much everybody cold. The only worthwhile items were the rolls of Innovation Dollars that were scooped up in minutes if not in seconds, presumably by the usual suspects, i.e., Big Buyers & Bots.
Hoped on around 12:15pm and didn’t see much. If there was anything I guess it sold out quickly.
Oh hum, guess back to the normal, everyday U.S. Mint fleecing pricings.
Chris Terp,
Newsflash. In regard to the Mint, “normal” ceased to be a relevant concept long ago.
