The first batch of U.S. Mint sales figures is in for the 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Silver Medal. Released on Oct. 15 for $104, the .999 fine 1-ounce medal lasted just over 24 hours before going off sale, with its product page now shows "currently unavailable."
Figures place the medal, which celebrates the anniversary of the first dollar coin issued by the U.S. federal government, at a combined total of 49,925 — about two-thirds of the announced 75,000 mintage. Breaking it down, 40,999 were sold individually, while 8,926 went through the Mint’s Authorized Bulk Purchase Program (ABPP).
There’s no official word yet on whether the remaining one-third of the originally announced 75,000 mintage will be available. Currently, the Mint’s product page features a "Learn More" link with the standard statement:
"We are currently out of this item, but more may be available later. If you provide your email address or cell number using the “REMIND ME” button, you will receive any back-in-stock messages we send related to this product."
Sales of the medal on the secondary market have been exceptional, especially extraordinary for the distinct 1,794 carrying a "230" privy mark and the even smaller selection that includes both the privy mark and a certificate of authenticity hand-signed by the Honorable Ventris C. Gibson, Director of the United States Mint, limited to just 230.

So far just under 2/3 of the published 75,000 mintage of the Flowing Hair Silver Medals have been released in total and roughly 18% of those went to Authorized Bulk (aka Advance) Purchasers. It’s no wonder there aren’t enough to go around! What we now have here as a result is an artificially scarce item made even more so thanks to the withholding of fully 1/3 of its previously announced mintage.
So much for no Advance releases. I doubt any individuals, not dealers, received a privy medal.
Antonio,
Even if an individual got one he’s sold it to a dealer by now who will sell it on for a healthy profit.
Off topic a bit. 2024 Unc eagles still below 100k mintage. As long as silver medals are the forefront of the conversation, when are the 2.5oz Space Program medals coming out?
East Coast Guru,
It appears the preference for Proofs keeps those ASE’s at the top of sales tallies year after year, but the Uncirculated Burnished ASEs seem to have the advantage when it comes to lower mintages. Just sayin’.
By the way, are those awaited 2.5oz medals Space Program or Space Force?
Seeing that although the most coins were minted by the U.S. Mint for 2024 compared to previous years, and almost none are found in circulation, I decided to buy the uncirculated and proof sets so at least I have 2024 dated coins for all the mints. Looks like the uncirculated sets are the lowest issued in a number of years, at least since 2017.
Antonio,
You can never go wrong with picking up a Proof Set and an Uncirculated Set every year; after all, these are the bedrock products of the Mint. I suppose the annual Silver Proof Set is part of that category but as its price becomes ever more unreasonable I have found it difficult to justify picking it up at all; in fact, I’ve skipped it the last two years.
I got so many mint sets, worthless for any profit 95% of the time…..
John Q. Coinage,
I understand that to be the case but for collecting purposes I still pick them up anyway. Besides, if I wasn’t buying those two sets I wouldn’t be buying much of anything anymore since just about everything else is now either priced as too costly for me or I’ve simply lost interest in the product.
I received my sets Saturday (October 26). I also have the silver 2024 AWQs. Can’t beat those for beauty. I only buy the other sets, occasionally. I’m mostly focusing on the ASEs and Morgan and Peace Dollars. The Flowing Hair Silver Medal was an exception.
You just can not trust the US Mint, as like the majority of the government agencies and elected officials, they “say one thing” and “do completely another”! The US Mint states re: the Authorized Bulk Purchase Program(ABPP) on March 19, 2021: “Not all Mint products will be offered through this program, and no more than 10% of products with limited quantities will be distributed under this program.” Let’s say the US Mint produced and released all 75,000 of the 2024 Flowing Hair Silver Medals. With the 8,926 released to or through the ABPP channel, this equates to 11.9%. Last time… Read more »
As stated in the Mint’s own press release, “This product is included in the Mint’s Authorized Bulk Purchase Program (ABPP). Products listed in the ABPP will be eligible for early release, carry an AB suffix in the product code, and carry a premium.” Also, “The Mint will open sales for the 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair High Relief Gold Coin on November 14. In addition, the Mint will auction a select number of these companion gold coins to the public. Details will be announced in the coming weeks.” So not all coins will immediately be sold to the public, some will… Read more »
What’s the reason for the gold flowing hair auction? Is that to get an advanced release label? Special privy on those coins. A genuine Gibson autograph?
East Coast Guru and Antonio,
I wonder if this will be just the first of many of the US Mint’s Magic Mike “Sold Out – Limited Edition” Mezack Auctions?
I’m sure the mint sees the prices their coins are selling for on ebay and wants a piece of that action. Why should they go to the work to make the coin and only get $3700 (or 104 dollars for silver) when someone else can resell it with a few clicks for so much more? I wouldn’t be surprised it some of the accounts selling FHSM are actually run by the mint. Got to off-set the penny and commemorative deficit somehow.
Kia99,
I realize that these days it might be all too easy and perhaps even tempting to go there, but I would suggest that the Mint has more than enough internal shenanigans going on; it doesn’t have any need to involve itself in illegal public indulgences. After all, the Mint already works with its shifty professional flippers aka big dealers to land the costs of its operations on the shoulders of average individual customers while also helping to prep them for the predations of the usuriously overcharging secondary marketeers.
Kaiser I’m likely to try for the FH Au COIN, JUST to be able to come here and relate that the USM website is still a cluster. But, Catch22 that’s why I fired the mint years ago…..hmmm,
John Q. Coinage,
That does appear to represent a bit of a conundrum, but what after all is such a paradox but an impossibly irresistible invitation to overcome obstacles by wilfully resisting all logic?
The gold proof American Buffalo might be a good alternative. It has a lower mintage and only half of the product limit have been sold. This one may be a sleeper in the future. If only I had $3,640 to spare. Then again, I’d also take a shot at the gold FH high relief proof dollar. Oh what could have been. 😀
I have Buffalos even the over populated’13 Rev Proof. & some fractionals. No FH gold, A Seated Liberty Au w First Spouse….. what’s to do….USM good way overpriced but I’ve been screaming for something like the FH for years, and STELLA$
John Q. Coinage,
Gold is sure nice to have because it’s a great color, it’s solid and it’s shiny, but you can’t breathe, drink, or eat it so we ought to keep in mind its limitations in the event of the zombie wars.
Good choice STELLA$
Antonio,
I had to smile when I read “Oh what could have been” because that may well be applicable to how so many of us feel at times, myself included. Not to mention “If only”, another such expression that clearly has rather widespread, even general usage. Unfortunately, either or both of those exclamations and $4.95 or so might get you all of a mediocre cup of coffee.
I believe you would have been quite satisfied with a FH Silver Medal of your own. At $229 on ebay, you would have made $125 right away. Then again, I believe you would have been quite content with the medal’s beauty.
Who knew the Flowing Hair Silver Medal was to be offered for (early) bulk sales through the Authorized Bulk Purchase Program before the October 15 launch date, which ended up accounting for 8,926 sales (especially in light of the extremely limited number of privy medals and privy medals with signed numbered COAs being thrown in the mix). Although I should have figured it out based on all the pre-sale Advance Release labels being advertised. How nice of the Mint to announce such Bulk sales in an October 16th press release the next day after the initial release on October 15th.
Rich,
However many of those 8,926 dealer-only advance purchase sales ended up having Privy Marks and possibly even Signed COAs, that is how many of those medals that are now costing collectors $10,000 and up to purchase as opposed to the $104 they could otherwise have gotten them for from the Mint.
Well, well, well. This product is included in the Mint’s Authorized Bulk Purchase Program (ABPP). Products listed in the ABPP will be eligible for early release, carry an AB suffix in the product code, and carry a premium. Early released products are not eligible for discounts. Note: To ensure that all members of the public have fair and equal access to United States Mint products, the United States Mint will not accept and will not honor orders placed prior to the official on-sale date of October 15, 2024, at noon EDT. Do they or don’t they? Since we’re not eligible… Read more »
Antonio,
I believe the Mint operates on the governing principle of “fool us once, shame on us” followed by “fool us twice, we’re even bigger suckers.”
CaliSkier,
The government bureaucracy seems to answer to no one, so this is just more SOP.
CaliSkier,
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Mint is purposely holding off on the balance of the 75,000 FH Mintage for the benefit of the Big Dealers at least until they are able to sell off their entire current inventories at the highest possible prices. In fact, there may be no further FH Medals minted at all in order to cement the viability of the current outrageous prices in place.
Perhaps that was then and this is now.?.And maybe the ABPP had nothing to do with selling these Medals? And instead it was the Numismatic Bulk Purchase Program (NBPP) who has no 10% limit?
“#9. Bulk purchaser customers are able to purchase any product available in any quantity (subject to household limits).
“Updated as of 7/7/21”
The “Bulk Purchase Agreement Form PDF” is a good read found on the Mint page below.
https://catalog.usmint.gov/bulk-purchase-program-landing.html#numismatic
PS: these bulk programs are designed to help distribute products more efficiently to the public. Not too sure what all the fuss is about around here?
Rick,
As stated in the Mint’s own press release, “This product [2024 Flowing Hair Silver Medal] is included in the Mint’s Authorized Bulk Purchase Program (ABPP). Products listed in the ABPP will be eligible for early release, carry an AB suffix in the product code, and carry a premium.”
I seems it was the ABPP that applied to this program and not the NBPP, which from several readings of its documentation I could find no mention of eligibility for its use with the 2024 Flowing Hair Silver Medal and/or Gold Coin program.
Me too, but what I did find interesting was the following statement within the NBPP statement …
“The Mint may, at any time, add new coin programs to the Numismatic Bulk Purchase Program as they are approved and made available.”
And there goes that 10% cap on big boy buys, ohh the humanity! Now no one can buy one fair and square !?!
Now I sound like one of those wacky Mint/TPG Truthers lolol. Silly me!
Credibility is,not a forte’ at the Mint. Not for years. Basically it’s their game, Ventris’ balllz and if u no likey u can go…..
Maybe so JQC..
Would she catch an Ohtani Grand Slam ball for a walk off title, then give the ball to the little kid? That’s what I thought..
Go Dodgers!
Rick,
Once again you cut to the quick, my friend. Now I see that this allows the Mint to grant not one but two sizeable exceptions to any rules it pretends to have, one for the ABPP and the other for the NBPP. The Mint can put aside for the two kinds of Bulk (read “Advance”) Purchasers well over 20% of whatever number of coins or medals that have been produced so far as any given part of the eventual “Mintage Limit”. No wonder the Big Dealers can dominate the secondary market so easily!
Luckily for me and everyone else who wanted a medal, and I mean everyone had a chance that day(24 hours) to buy their one medal with no problems.
No one was left out and the mint did it right this time.
I agree so Rick. I passed the Au has more allure at my stage. Dodger tickets super expensive a v75 Au for a filed no of 4…. SRO @ Yankee Stadium $1,600
I bought the Ag looking for the privy like everyone else, I’ll know what I have in the bubble baggie later. Maybe I’ll be shocked and someone on this site gets one?
Sports tickets are too much $$ like the salaries are. Maybe we’ll see Ventris behind Home Plate, or First Pitch lol..
At my stage, sports are better to watch on TV, or not at all sometimes.
Rick,
I was deterred from going to any more live sports events many years ago when it had become too difficult to be able to put up with the interminable wait for the “mens’ facilities”.
Those privy marked medals are all going for thousands of dollars. I even saw a non privy mark medal offered for $1,000.
I’ll sell mine for $1k.
East Coast Guru and Antonio,
If you can get $1,000 for a plain FH Medal then do so; why let everyone else reap the benefits of this scheme?
Ah, I’ll take that gamble.
That Poster was in my room!!!
Antonio,
By George, that’s the spirit! And we know that guy liked his “spirits”!
Deep in the leviathan of comments from a comment I posted 6 days ago, VinnyC wrote 2 days ago: “VanHalen on Collector’s Universe reports a finned rim on on of his Flowing Hair medal. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1107672/u-s-mint-2024-lottery-230th-anniversary-flowing-hair-silver-medal/p14 Thanks Vinny! Also the same commenter(VanHalen) wrote and added additional pictures later indicating tool marks on the edge of the coin as well. I’m wondering if those are possible marks left by the friction created against the die collar. Outside guess, is that the finning was created by a slightly tilted die, perhaps maybe an imperfect inconsistently thick planchet(?) or possibly too much die pressure.… Read more »

CaliSkier,
I am not about to take issue in any way with the out of context occasion of someone having found a finned rim and/or whatever else on any one of these already ridiculously overpriced FH Silver Medals. However, if the ultimate result of that, whatever the source of said defect, is a further driving up of already clearly usurious pricing levels then the sales of this FH Silver Medal will have embarked on a trajectory the likes of which is undoubtedly among the most unusual in the annals of numismatic salesmanship.
This coin(below),I sent in for a first strike(mint sealed)label and grade.
When I got it back I was super happy about the 70 grade but I was taken aback by the deep outer rim on the upper half of the reverse. The straight-on photo doesn’t do justice on that extra tall thin rim fin up there. I sort of felt lucky for the 70 grade. But, the rest of the coin looks really good..
Super hi-rez photo for the finger zoomers out there…
Cali,
I agree on all of those points you made about the collar marks, and the possible cause of the finning on that medal.
✅
Thanks for the picture and congrats on the 70 Rick. I’ve read, where some that have received finned coins or medals, in capsules, have noted that the capsule either doesn’t close completely or end up being a tilted/unseated, allowing for the coin or medal to possibly fall out of the capsule when handling. Guess you won’t have to worry about that, now that yours is held securely in your PCGS Gold Shield w/TrueView PF70 holder!. Beautiful coin, again thanks for sharing! BTW this Liberty and Britannia design has grown on me and as you mentioned previously, assuredly looks even better… Read more »
Thanks,
I think the FH Gold will look like this with the familiar PF contrasting going on?..
But better because of being a less crowded coin. No initials, no MM, just a great old classic design with some cool edge lettering…
Frosty Gold devices and Black DCAM fields. We’ll see!
I always wonder if I should do a nested reply or a new comment. That wasn’t an option with MNB. Sometimes on a high traffic day neither matters and my comment get buried in obscurity no matter what I do.
Finally received mine today…..very pretty coin(medal) ..alas…no privy…. still i’m keeping it.
Thanks for sharing Dom!..
I’m glad I purchased one, with or without the privy mark.
I’m going to see if mine has a finned rim. I know the edge doesn’t look smooth.
Checking the first link above, I see one individual did receive a privy mark medal, no signed COA though. There’s hope yet.
Domenic Vaiasicca,
I would say that you yourself are “privy” to knowledge not everyone has, that what you might think you want is not necessarily as important as what you already have.
Interestingly, no privy mark sales are referenced in the sales numbers above. Is that always the case? I thought the Negro League baseball privy mark coin got its own sales line.
Reb, the reason for the Negro Leagues Proof Privy Silver Dollar having its own sales line, is that although it was counted against the 400,000 mintage limit, it was given a unique item number of 22CS vs the regular proof dollar, identified with 22CK. There wasn’t a stand alone option/ability to order a 2024 Privy marked Flowing Hair Silver Medal and no individual or unique item number allowing for tracking. Therefore, there’s no reported sales number reported allowing for differentiation on the Flowing Har silver medals with privy mark. Link below to the Mint press release, re: “United States Mint… Read more »
Thanks for the info, Caliskier.
Assuming a huge portion of the PCGS graded 230 privy medals are from the ABP ( I got my non-privy FH on Saturday and can’t imagine getting it graded so fast) and assuming the 8,926 ABP medal followed the 2.4% proportion (i.e. about 214 privy medals) 91 or 42% have already been graded by PCGS. Maybe some of my assumptions are wrong.
VinnieC,
Considering how opaque much of what we get as “information” from the Mint appears to be, your assumptions can be assumed to be as correct as anyone’s.
Any Mint customer(non dealer)can get his privy medal graded and posted on PCGS(on day 2-3 if lucky), and in hand in about a 10 days after the purchase if he were to overnight the medal($100), and pay $150 extra to get it to the front of the line using the walkthrough service. I would do that if I were to get lucky, and if I wished to flip it quickly.
On the other blog Goldbully was citing PCGS Population reports every few days. From Oct 17 -22 The population was 72. I checked on Oct 23. Maybe the ABP number is closer to 72. I have not mound the NGC population.
My guess would be that the NGC population is higher.
I wonder what the 70 vs 69 grades will end up being? The finish looks to be forgiving. The First strike 70 Privy medal will be money imo. I might send in my sealed Mint bubble bag along with some other goodies?
New? mint website notice I just noticed today:
Our new and improved website is coming! While we transition, the site will be temporarily unavailable from 10 pm ET 10/29 to 1 am 10/30
I finally received my Medal today and it was in the plastic bag too. No Privy ;( I will sell it on EBay as I don’t want to send it back to the Mint. I only purchased it for a chance at a Privy and/or signed COA and it was a miss, I lost, in a way, at least I’ve got a Medal to show for it, lol. I had already purchased a PCGS PR70 on a Pre Sale on Ebay so I didn’t really need another one as I do not collect Medals other than the Medals that go… Read more »
2024 Pricing of Numismatic Gold, Commemorative Gold, Platinum, and Palladium Products Grid..,
New grid pricing coming.., per Federal Register, stand by for more joy!
Premium on FHG – $1,050
FHG Pricing (at this week’s London’s average weekly spot) –
$3,750
So.., come 14 November – IF the London’s average weekly spot is $2,750 to $2,800..,
FHG Price = $3,800
With a week of AU spot consolidation, and then a solid pop of 4.2%, taking the AU spot to $2,855’ish (for a week to become the new London average).., it’s possible, perhaps minimal, that the FHG could list for $3,900
New pricing grid –
KCSO, Well now, with a $1050 premium on an oz of gold, that’s the nail in the coffin for me. The premium the Mint is charging is ridiculous. The Mint expects coin collectors to bankroll the institution and I’m NOT going to play their game any longer. I do not have any plans of purchasing coins in the future. I will only purchase from the Mint if I think there’s an opportunity for a quick “Flip”! I will end it with my last purchase for me will be the GFH. I’m done collecting the American Liberty Series. It saddens me… Read more »
The plus side is the premium for you. Considering that the average for the silver medal is $125 over the $104 price for the medal, how much more over the price of the gold coin do you think you can get? +$4,000? Just something to mull over.
Say after they’re sold out, they’re available for $6,000. Not a bad return.
Wow, has the Medal already fizzled out? No comments for…………..? I saw a Best Offer accepted on a Privy w/signed COA#10 (low COA # too) and the Buy It Now was lowered to $8500. The Seller accepted the Best Offer. I think we’ll start seeing those Signed COA’s start coming back down to reality. Then you’ll start seeing the ones with only the Privy start coming back to reality. Why isn’t anyone commenting any longer? Is it because everyone’s waiting for the Gold Flowing Hair to be released? I’m not surprised at the silence, after all, it’s a Medal NOT… Read more »
AKBob, It’s probably FHS comment burnout as opposed to silence. Also, only about five people have commented on the medal more than one time. Everyone was excited about it, until they didn’t get a privy that is. But, several collectors here bought it to keep it, privy or not because it’s actually very nice, coin or medal.. Yes it’s fizzling down no doubt, but then again those prices around 10K were/are ridiculous. I seriously doubt that anyone bought a privy with a COA for 10K, nor will they in the future imo, but I could be wrong!. I have no… Read more »
Rick,
I was just thinking how very exhausting it might be to always remain the calm and calculated voice of reason, but then what would I know about that? 😉
As for me, if I didn’t go slightly haywire or at least somewhat bananas a good part of every day I’m not sure I would be able to make it through the week! 🙂
Rick, I think we’re pretty close on our predictions in regards to the FHS. I think this Medal could easily be at $1K +-$200. I too, wouldn’t mind having one with the Privy. I actually really like this Medal. I don’t collect them unless they go with one of the Gold Liberty coins. If I didn’t collect the Gold Liberty Series I’m fairly confident I’d have purchased this one. It’s a cool Coin, I mean Medal! Dam, if it was only a coin, I’d be doing backflips, lol! I truly like it. I may keep my one in OGP after… Read more »
You could always imagine it has edge lettering, as the original. You can’t see it in the plastic case.
Has anyone here received a privy marked coin, I mean medal, or one with a signed COA? I wonder what the odds are of getting both in your order. If I had placed an order for this, it would be really, really, really slim to none. I’m also curious as to why someone would shell out $9K plus for the medal with the privy mark. Does anyone think it’ll be a $15-20K item in 5 years? FOMO can sure wreak havoc with one’s finances! It sure is fun to watch however!
Craig,
I’ve been collecting coins for close to seventy years now and I have to say in all that time this is by far one of the oddest occurrences regarding the hobby I have ever encountered. I am truly baffled as to why so much money, effort and time are being devoted to the Mint’s Flowing Hair silver medal. Doubtless lots of folks can come up with a variety of reasons for this surprising brouhaha, but practical justifications as such will hardly suffice to fully explain what’s really behind this singular phenomenon.
Kaiser, So, I guess no one here has received any of the privy marked medals or the signed COA. I’m not at all surprised and only grateful that I don’t fall for these ‘get rich quick’ schemes. It is bewildering as to how folks will spend thousands on a modern medal just because a few are pressed with a privy mark. The smart money sure doesn’t have any problem taking it from the folks P.T. Barnum referenced in that famous quote of his. As I’ve said before, if it was made as a coin, I’d consider buying one as I… Read more »
Craig,
Those are some very pertinent points there, my friend. This is after all a medal which is effectively and ordinarily the requisite consolation prize for those of us who can’t afford the gold version. However, in this instance the P.T. Barnumesque Mint wizards have figured out how to squeeze gold sized money out of what are customarily silver buyers. Simply brilliant!
It is a nice looking medal. The obverse looks nearly high relief.
Human psychology.., One can only speculate, Over the past 18 years, it’s been fascinating to watch people, the community, talking heads poo poo silver when it could be had for $14.25, or $17 on the cyclical pull backs, or gold at $1,150, or $1,400.., Though AFTER PM’s run a solid 10-20%.., then folks have a fever to buy anything not nailed down…. WRT the FHS, I can only speculate that still too much $ sloshing around, pent up demand for something unique among a field of current, and very stale, mint offerings.., and the animal spirits of PM fever when… Read more »
KC&SO,
Human psychology: that which makes us question our sounder thinking and wilfully repeat our errors in judgment.
The Gold Pricing grid has been updated, and the premium on the FHG is $1,040, not $1,050 as indicated in the FR pre-announcement yesterday, Therefore, at today’s AU London fix average, FHS = $3,740, Should the average AU London fix notch above $2,750 for the week prior to 14 Nov, then $3,790 At that price point, $10, $20, $50 here or there, just seems like in the noise, I joined the coin collecting community in 2006 with my first very proud purchase a gold Proof Buffalo.., for $800, my we’ve come a looonngggg way…. My big one regret, watching the… Read more »
KCSO, thanks for the notification on the new Mint Pricing Range Table that now includes the Flowing Hair 1 oz 24k Gold coin. Here is the Mint’s premium pricing per oz over spot for their numismatic gold, platinum and palladium 1 oz coins (using an averaging scheme based on the $25 mid-point product price) — Current US Mint premium price per oz over spot, numismatic gold, platinum and palladium: Flowing Hair 1 oz 24k Gold = $1,015 Liberty & Britannia 1 oz 24k Gold = $995 American Liberty 1 oz 24k Gold = $940 American Buffalo Proof 1 oz 24k… Read more »
Rich,
I can honestly say I’m happy to be spared the stress of the Mint’s precious metal premium overcharges by not even becoming a participant in the game.
Kaiser, I’m with you on this. I stopped buying anything from the USM after the 2021 Morgan/Peace debacle. I haven’t seen anything yet to change my mind.
I’ve bought other coins, just not from the USM.
Sam-I-am,
I can’t help but believe that we are but part of an ever growing number of formerly avid Mint customers for whom that increasingly less august institution has relinquished its original prime position in regard to providing coins and/or medals for our personal collections.
KC&SO,
If it’s any consolation we all leave this world with the same amount of gold, namely none.
Wasn’t that a great price for that proof W Gold Buffalo? I have one myself. The following year the price jumped and the party was over. It’s a beautiful coin.
Perhaps the unsold medals are just being checked out by the authorized buyers to “decide”….0r bought scanned and returned…
JQC,
So shall it be written, so shall it be done.
The Judge has spoken, Judge Wilhelm. 😀
A 25% drop in Grover Cleveland medals? Are the bulk buyers looking for high grades and returning the rest?
SteelyEyed,
That’s what they always do, as in standard operating procedure. The name of the game.
Will the Flowing Hair gold dollar be the lowest denomination gold coin ever?
REB,
Until the introduction of the One Penny Gold Micro-Coin, quite likely so.
REB, the lowest denomination (face value) US Mint gold coin is the 2016-W 10C (1/10 oz) Gold Mercury Dime coin.
Good catch, Rich. Thanks for the info. That one slipped by me as it was not a proof strike. But it’s a pretty coin nevertheless.
I have a niece. Her name is “Liberty.” So, I gave her my 2024 FHS No Privy Metal. She was over the moon with it. She said she would keep it forever.
Cheers
E 1,
You have a legacy there.
Nice!! Good on You! 😉
E 1,
I would say you hit that one out of the park. Good heart, great intent, wonderful result.
Wondering if Mint is holding back silver Flowing Hair to create a 2-coin set containing a silver and gold FH?
My thoughts exactly.., thanks for throwing the idea out there, at least now I know I’m not alone…. We could see some more prives out it, something different, Mint is going to auction off some of the golds in some special public auction.., therefore some have to have some bait attached to them, let’s see… – Signed numbers COA (1-100 ? ) – Special Privy or ‘230’ privy like the FHS – Edge stamped privy or production numbered, like the first 20 get their # stamped on the edge Thinking they would need to do something special though, than just… Read more »
Press Release – 16 Oct:
“The Mint will open sales for the 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair High Relief Gold Coin on November 14. In addition, the Mint will auction a select number of these companion gold coins to the public. Details will be announced in the coming weeks.”
USM is at Whitman in Baltimore, 14 Nov.., may be that’s where they plan to conduct this auction..,
If so, it’ll turn into another “Pandemonium” event like Chicago when the gold JFK was released….
Keep Calm & Stack On,
It would probably behoove the Mint to have the FHG auction take place the same day as the official release of the coin as I believe that particular strategy will help to amplify the excitement level and as such likely succeed in increasing overall sales volume.
Well exactly, so where and how? USM broadcasts that it’ll be at Whitman Baltimore on the 14th, with 2024 product offerings, and it just happens to be the Grand Finale on the 14th.., Where’s the transparency? The dealers got the majority of the FHS Privies and COAs.., Where’s the transparency in a realm of when common Joe loyalists to the USM continues to get screwed..? So are we to expect that the same shenanigans will occur at Baltimore or at this auction, that if you’re not a dealers.., why bother to show up… Tomorrow is 04 November.., 10 days in… Read more »
Keep Calm & Stack On, While it would not seem at all unreasonable for the Mint to throw in some unique incentive(s) to stimulate interest in and excitement about the FHG auction, I quite honestly don’t feel that will be the case on this occasion. I’m guessing the mere fact of not having to go through the online ordering process might already serve as somewhat of an enticement for auction participation, not to mention that the third party graders could jump in with a special holder indicating the auction provenance of those particular FHGs. After all, as we have come… Read more »
