Australian bullion demand slowed in October after surging to multi-month highs in September, The Perth Mint reported, with sales of both gold and silver products showing significant declines.
The Perth Mint’s General Manager of Minted Products, Neil Vance, noted that tough market conditions persist, with elevated gold prices affecting the sales of minted products.
"However, the customer response to our Australian Lunar Series III 2025 Year of the Snake has been pleasing, and more exciting releases featuring new designs will be released in coming months," Mr. Vance said.
"I’m also eagerly awaiting our annual Kangaroo bullion release which is always hugely popular."
Precious metals jumped prices in October, with LBMA prices (in USD) increasing by 4% for gold and 8.1% for silver.
Perth Mint Gold Bullion Sales in October 2024
In October, the Mint’s gold coin and bar sales rose by 29,935 ounces, yet this marked a 43.7% fall from September, which saw the highest monthly total since November 2023, and was 29.2% lower than in the same month last year.
The Perth Mint’s year-to-date gold sales stand at 301,743 ounces, a 47.6% decrease from the 576,072 ounces sold during the same period last year.
Perth Mint Silver Bullion Sales in October 2024
The Mint reported October sales of 539,898 ounces for its minted silver coins and bars, reflecting a 44% decline from September, when sales reached their highest monthly total since February, and 49.7% below October 2023 levels.
Year to date, the Mint’s silver sales amount to 7,700,416 ounces, down 43.1% from the 13,542,451 ounces sold during the same period last year.
