Fully 20% of the FHGs went to Advance Purchasers. I thought the limit was 10%.
I’m so happy I didn’t waste my time on this one. The comments about this coin interest me more than the coin does. I’m happy with what I have. Now to the Dr. Seuss coins. LOL! 😀
Sir Kaiser, indeed no more than 10% of Numismatic products with limited quantities will be distributed under the Authorized Bulk Product Program (ABPP) to Authorized Bulk purchasers. The stated FHG coin ABPP Bulk sales of 1,994 represents 11.5% of the 17,500 product mintage and 26% of the Individual sales of 7,625 (as of 11/17/2024).
If true where are the other SEVEN THOUSAND FHGs….huh. Sales are then 9,619, leaving what 7,000 mia, in someone’s desk….lWTF
MINt customer since 1969: now just ex and DISGUSTEDLY DISGUSTING….
VENTRIS you got some splaining to do
Precisely. What exactly is going on here?
Maybe they couldn’t get enough blanks. I just received mine today
Rich,
If only 9,935 have been sold with the FHG designated as Currently Unavailable then the Bulk Sale of 1,994 coins does represent 20% of the available total.
Rich naah. WRONG —-> with the new improved product limit the ABPP sales equals TWENTY EFFEN PERCENT OF THE ITEM. Complete BS so many get shut out, further tortured by Ventris’ games and Ryder 2.o Administration
I also thought 10% also. I wonder if they couldn’t get enough blanks. I received mine today.
Congratulations!
With the exception of one comment about the size of the coin, others are very pleased with the coin.
How about you?
Photos?
Thanks
Just curious why the Morgan/Peace RP Set (24XS) sales figures are not included. It’s released to the plebians tomorrow, so I’m guessing these are sales to the APs.
That Morgan/Peace RP Set (24XS) sales figure = 136,950 is probably mostly from the Subscription Program’s subscription sales, although it may also include (Bulk – 40 Coins) sales to the APs (note: Authorized Bulk purchasers are allowed to pick-up their products three days prior to the official on-sale date). The 24XS mintage/product limit = 262,500, so sales of 136,950 already represents 52% of the product mintage limit.
On second thought, the reported 24XS sales figure of 136,950 is probably from the APs and not the Subscriptions since the Item Number is NL for the Morgan and Peace Dollar Two-Coin Reverse Proof Set Subscription (versus item number 24XS for the Current Product) and 24XS is not a limited quantity product.
Well, there we have it: FHG sales of 7,625 and FHS sales of 49,911.
I was certainly wrong about the anticipated large FHS returns. Only 2 this week. Amazing!
That goes for me too. Only 85 returns so far. It’s a popular medal.
Antonio and Major D,
This was likely my most off the beam call since I’ve been on this site. I can only surmise that my own general lack of interest in medals as opposed to coins steered me in the completely wrong direction as to guessing what would happen. Oh well.
Does anyone know where the other 9875 GFH’s are? Some have speculated the mint will add a 2 coin FH Set, but they’d better do that quickly as we only have a little over 5 weeks left in this year.
Craig, I’ve been wondering about a 2 coin set now too. Why tho??? Since they only produced 50K Silver Medals and virtually no returns and assuming they’ve produced all 17,270 regular FHG, they could easily do say 5K sets easily! Have numbered COA’s and have 230 signed COA’s! Then sell the remaining FHG singularity. Just a guess on my part tho. Trying to “guess” what the Mints going to do. What I don’t understand is the lack of Transparency from the Mint. Why be so secretive? Please US Mint, put out a Statement or Memo letting us know the future… Read more »
AKB nice post. I fired the mint, tried despite knowing it was a scam, to get a FHG. I WAS done clicked to buy at 9:02, sold out already it was a 2 min SO which makes sense w about 7k.
aI remember the mint, but it’s “dead to me….”
pass on their little set of Ventris playing that ga,e
Assuming the Mint produced the full product mintage of 17,500/17,270 FHG coins, as stated by U.S. Mint spokesman Michael White confirming to Coin World via email Oct. 30 that production of the entire authorized mintage was achieved, then as of Nov.19 there should be about 7,300-7,500 FHG coins unsold or potentially still available for sale at a later date, based on the combined sales figure of 9,935 (as of Nov. 19) provided here. [17,500 – 9,935 = 7,565 and 17,270 – 9,935 = 7,335]
I believe it was you; you were right, 17,500 coins was too much. The Mint thought so too and only produced about 10,000 (not counting the privy mark coins). You know this business too well. High five to you!
Antonio, You may be wrong but you may be right… Thanks!
Why do I get the feeling the U.S. Mint is like the TV show Parks and Recreation?
I’m in the camp of purchasing coins from the mint, or should I say used to collect coins from the mint, with reasonable premiums. Most of my Au and Ag purchases have appreciated nicely, due to a rise in spot, but also because I have some collectible sets in my possession. I’ve never bought a coin with the intent of selling it immediately on eBay for a profit. My collection will eventually be passed on to relatives as I’m fortunate enough not to be burdened by financial stress (thank you tech stocks). I agree the FH design is attractive and… Read more »
Craig,
Another masterful essay on your part regarding some of the most pertinent aspects of contemporary coin collecting and how they are influencing and/or determining the very future of the hobby. As for Magic Mike, it’s not difficult to see that he is not doing any of us who take coin collecting seriously any favors. Never stop calling it as you see it; your views are of great value to all of us here.
Well the prices on eBay etc was priced assuming all 17,500 were minted. So if The mintage stays where it is it will probably go up. The 2014 platinum Proof eagle is a good example. They were planning on minting 10,000 I believe but they switched that year from the Perth mint making the blanks to s different company. Out of the 10,000 blanks ordered under 4000 were usable because they were out of specifications. I thought I would have time to order it but I ended up buying a NGC PF 70 at the world fair of money in… Read more »
REVERAND, Mint shenanigans in full bloom.
yeah CU, hiding the mint is like the girl with a herpes on her lip, tells ya don’t worry it’s only a cold sore….
Bullsheet, eliteiwm for APs collectors get a middle finger and a hunk o coal.. Apparently almost Ten Thousand FHG went to APs or,others insider whatever. The mint, the USM sux, how can they promote this coin and the screw the remaining “base”. The new base happy, more upset old timers and completely showing the Mints absence of credibility, fairness or should I say reasonableness to customers. It is clear the Mint doesn’t give a rats arse for us
John Q ,
I lost out within 2 minutes just like you did, it’s tough luck that others just beat us out online.
Maybe we should blame Pompeii and smalltimecollector for shafting us instead of Ventris!? The USM didn’t target you or me personally lol. No USM boogeyman is after you bud…
But, it looks like less than 8k were available for the 50k looking to score one?!
I Might try the USM 7:30am Sale, but they say be quick about it, quicker than we were on the 14th…
FHG 7:30 “Fire Sale” at the USM results…
11/15 112 coins sold(up to 400 rumored reported?).
11/16 44 coins sold.
11/17 91 coins sold.
11/18 7 coins sold.
11/19 34 coins sold.
11/20(today) 52 coins sold…

Hey! I resemble that comment! Remember this guy has been collecting for years with a very limited budget. This year was particularly painful to buy the 3 offered this year I had eyes for. Because of that I’m passing on tomorrows release. I particularly did not, nor like the “get it if you can” kick down the barn door le releases. I boycotted mint purchases for 2 years because of a screwed up release back in 2019 that never “took” my order. I like what some here suggest, mint to demand (or perhaps a minimum 24 to 72 hour offering… Read more »
@smalltimecollector sorry you feel like you are in the cross hair on the account of you success. I’m pretty sure most of the commentary is rhetorical. If your a talking about the 1999 S ERP ASE, I’m still sore about that. I had that one in my bag and kept on erroring out during the checkout phase until it finally went CU. It would be nice if the collectors won more often. I’ve said this before…the collectors actually “lose” when they buy something because if they don’t sell they never see a profit other than the pleasure of owning their… Read more »
33 FHG sold this morning,
But the checkout button was only there for 3 seconds, no time to complete the order, or even bagging it in time.
It’s rumored that there’s a backdoor for automation/bots..
Correct, the Silver Medals are showing up @ 7:30 am now as well.
Now one must learn how to Super-Snipe at the Mint website,
Not fun…
@Rick, superbot or not I think some many people are trying for it it will go fast. Also I’m not sure how synchronized the US Mint clock is to the NIST atomic clock. It always seems to lag by a few seconds.
I’m so glad I bought mine first round and don’t have to try again from the “Fire Sale”. It’s a nice one, which I’m happy to own.
It is hard to understand why the Mint is releasing a daily drop of a few tens of FHG coins through the “Remind Me” 7:30 am ET “Fire Sale” if indeed there are thousands (approx. 7,000) of available coins left unsold from an assumed fully achieved mintage of 17,000+. However, if the full mintage of 17,000+ coins was not initially produced (say only 10,000 – 12,000), or perhaps they are holding some 5,000 coins back for a surprise FHG and FHS special set, then what we are seeing with these daily fire sales make sense.
Obviously BOTs…..how or why does the mint allow it ongoing
Not at all VinnieC, I was jesting back. I’m rather kick back on all this and do understand and feel for those the are wondering wtf. Can we expect the mint to explain what they have done? Do not like resellers, really dislike our nearest “coin shop” that pays 80% for metals and nothing more for graded or mint packaged “rarities”. I go there occasionally to look at this overpriced pre33’s that he gave a paltry 80% to some desperate soul, OR widow. The prev owner burned me back in the early 80’s after I pre-paid him for two rolls… Read more »

The Beef might be in some new packaging coming your way just in time for Santa time!? Maybe they’ll offer free shipping for a 4k Au/Ag FH Kit lol! But I hope not, we’ll see? Good work with the CC $20 piece! The Mint gets an A+ for those… I give the Mint credit for taking the money and running when it comes to the FHG Privy Auction. Why? Because ZERO coins are going to go to the ABPP Bulksters. The collectors are going to buy them and not flip them. Why? Because collectors with that kind of money(60k for… Read more »
Privy Coin #1 of 53 “V”‘s below….
Privy Coin #54 below(a new die installed here)..
No more “V”, nor the “black thread” markers..All gone after coin #53 for the rest of the Mintage…..
Rick great sleuthing #53 almost looks like a portion of a 5 point star. Too expensive to start collecting die varieties. Now, I making a ‘91 cc set only need the minors. More I do the less I cringe or frustrate over USM shenanigans & pricing yes beyond all the price are Ridiculous. Like a store near me Cole Slaw $10.99# Chicken tenders $10.99. Huh
Newsom has your back, he said he cares about everyone!
CA is taxed more, congrats! The jails “might” start to fill up again over there? Where’s Superman when you need him/her lol.
CC Au Coinage is Calming for you, get the iphone pics to us, even if your ’91 set is not complete, we love coin pics!
I keep trying for one of these coins in the grade below, but every time they hammer at $20k, wow, I can’t do it–talk about inflation!
Rick, E1, Now that’s a coin worth going for! I wonder which you’d choose if you had the opportunity to have either this Kennedy or a FHG w/230 Privy. That would be an extremely difficult decision. How many PR69 DCAM Accented Hair are there? I’m guessing a lot less than 230 of the 230 Privy, mind you, I’m only guessing. Maybe less than 100 even of them! Which one would go up in value more and quicker? I’m leaning towards this Kennedy believe it or not as I’m a gold bug. I certainly like rare silver coins however that 230… Read more »

A 66DCAM Accent Hair could net you 1,000…

Well, perhaps the remaining FHG inventory, if there actually is remaining inventory, will be offered up at the 2024 Cyber Monday Sale? Maybe they won’t have one, however with the success of last years sale, clearing the shelves of stale product, I’m thinking they will indeed have another Cyber Monday sale. Cali, glad I fired the Mint back in’19, FHG made them really dead to me, but like sniping and watching their BS
Here’s the deal of the century and I’m guessing that not a one of us here got even the slightest chance to take advantage of it. A banana duct-taped to the wall for $6,200,000. And all the winning bidder got for his money was a certificate that allows him to tape his own banana with his own duct tape to his own wall at home and call it “Comedian.” As God is my witness I’m not making any of this stuff up.
Purchased under. Expense acct. by Director for Mint Store in D.C. placement in lobby…..
The Mont has placed, not sure when, a 10,000 “product limit” for the FHG w a mintage limit of 17,500. Who says you can’t change the rules in the MIDDLE OF A GAME……
What a total “Crock of Shit” John Q. Yeah, talk about giving collectors the shaft! I bet US Mint subscriptions take a Major DRUMP as a result, due to the adjustments, after the fact on both the FHSM and FHG. I’d be beyond pissed off, had I been seeking to p/u either of these 2 items.
10,000 FHG coins?
More like a Crock-o-Gold!
Winner winner with chicken legs if it remains at 10k or less!
John Q that tells me that there’s room for another “product” containing the FHG that could be available in different packaging!?
Rick good if you got i around 1, now around 2…. 7,000 left….. figure sets with a Ventris hair follicle and auto Cert, Au and Ag set only $5,230….
Very good catch, JQC – you made my day, Sir!
I feel vindicated now.., & in need of ‘dry powder’ Baby!
US Mint Management reference to the comedy series Parks and Recreation – LMAO, that was funny, & so true..,
I was thinking something a little darker, like The Hunger Games – as in, you get your coin, if you survive their game, and avoid the death tricks..,
FHG mintage mystery solved. So the earlier Coin World reported US Mint Public Affairs Office reference of the FHG “authorized mintage” being fully achieved was not referring to the Product/Mintage Limit of 17,500, but instead was referring to a non-disclosed “authorized mintage” of 10,000 coins established and authorized by some Mint Official. And now today, the Mint reset the FHG product limit to 10,000. E PLURIBUS FOOL ‘EM!
Now I want the FHG even less. I just got a email from Patriotic mint where they are selling 2024 silver eagles OGP for less than the mints price. Ha!! Go figure. Someone had to sell their collection for spot so a dealer can sell for less than the mint.
Rich,
You can’t drop bombs like this and break the hearts and aspirations of fellow collector’s (so joking) at the commencement of happy hour.., on dreary Friday, here on the east coast…. Geez Bro….
Seriously, I rather assumed the aforementioned.., though have a source though? We just need to put this to bed, and drive the nail into the coffin.., Source?
Have a great Friday evening! 😉
Rich
Apparently, THEY can…..and do

Do you have a source that you’re getting this info from? I just can’t understand why the Mint is being so secretive and the lack of Transparency is very frustrating. AK Bob & KCSO, to clarify, what I wrote was only my best guess interpretation and summation of the situation. I do not have any additional sources of information outside of the Coin World article referenced, Coin News headline articles, and the US Mint web site & news releases. What we know for sure is the new product limit = 10,000 for FHG YG24 product item with a mintage limit = 17,500. And as Rick mentioned, “However there’s ample room to sell more FHG in a different “product” packaging scheme, therefore increasing the FHG Mintage to its full potential after… Read more »
Thank you for the clarification, & the integrity of the response.., I have found that to be true to everyone I’ve known named Richard,
Regarding this Trey Benedict PCGS listing of daily sales – I call BS, though let it run its course, intrigued as where it goes, as running bots and manipulation of a Federal website is rather frowned upon,
Likewise, KC&SO, and we appreciate all the valuable knowledge and accurate & helpful information you share with us.
Rich, switching topics. The Greatest Gen Unc Gold at 1,190 so far has got to be in the running for the lowest mintage coin that the US Mint has ever produced. Definitely the lowest mintage modern commemorative. Unless some big sales happen in the final month.
Major D, you must be reading my mind. I’m planning on posting a current summary and assessment of the US Mint Modern Gold Coin Programs lowest mintage figures, a favorite topic of mine.
Rich,

The secretly made a 10k solo FHG product limit. Ok so that’s a big finger & colonoscopy from Ventris and her posse, then the FHS cuts 25k off it designed and PUBLISHED mintage limit, you just got a pizza with pepperoni & glass wool, finally you diligently requested a REMINDER from the USM for both, and get Zero while bots and in$iders snap up early morning mint constipation, kidney & strychnine Pie anyone…..
A most vivid, graphic description of the sequence of events.
The public gets a chance at the FHG no privy while the mint takes the profit from the 230 privy coins. Such a historic offering should be to all who wish to purchase at close to melt value. After all this is an historic coin, representing freedom and the birth of a nation. But the Mint has become a racket. The fact that I had to have lightening hands to obtain a silver and gold Flowing Hair is pathetic. The price outrageous and the presentation box is garbage. The 2009 High Relief wood box is what should have been done.… Read more »
So true and sad NOW. Their mission statement was to help and advance collector efforts, has morphed into an APB and bot profit center. The mint would be ashamed IF it had any semblance of knowledge of numismatics and the dwindling PISSED OFF zoos “base”, to be replaced by Comic Book Collectors, really WTF.. how about a $69 clad .50
Try some sour grapes to help with that pizza & pie hartburn!

·. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Maybe the secondary is the way to go, like we do for pre-33 Silver & Gold!? What a concept!
Or sour grapes, legit gripes w the mint secrets of downsizing mintage and allows AP to suck up 20% of the “available” mintage…but he classics always reign in MHO
Keep some dry powder on hand..,
KCSO,
I buy my powder in 8-pound cannisters. Primers I get in cases of 5K. Bullets by the 1000-count carton. I think I’m ready.
Alright, now you’re talking! What’cha pressing?
For the Zombie Apocalypse.., I like the green tipped Nosler 165 gr, 30-06.., though the green tipped 223 will be equally effective against the thicker headed Z’s.., ;P
Mostly handload what I can’t buy – special target loads, (38 cal bullets in 9mm brass, 32 long wadcutters, 4 pellet 4-ought 12 ga). If I need standard ammo, I just buy factory. Hornady Black 124 gr 9’s in my wife’s Colt carbine clock 1400+. She likes her Garand since we put a big recoil pad on it!
In the mix SKS always legal 10r, Mossberg 590 Parkerized military with Solid 12ga Slug, still sold in CA. Love the Garand (spell check AI corrected me on this 2x WTF) never got 1 and back in the late 80s free here
..IF you qualified and could filed strip and clean, not a militia CA NATL Guard affiliate. Zombies uh, we fight Werewolf’s with hand smelted.357Ag FMJs
Watching completed eBay sales, yesterday and OGP FHG SOLD FOR…. $4,000. Flipper got spanked fees alone approx. @$540
maybe a shakeout eBay sale of FHG yesterday was…. $4,000. Less fee$ of est. $600 the flipper for flanked. Maybe more to come, I ready will and able @ spot or a 70@ issue price
In 18 years, I have never been shut out like this before.., after I swore it off, I did go back and try a few times.. pointless, it shows available for about 1.5 seconds and then vanishes…. I spent some of the funds for it anyway.., If you’re in Hawaii, JQC you may want to consider redirecting some funds for a 3,000 / 5,000 watt solar power cell / generator, for when China invades Taiwan, a crazy takes out the grid, or something else.., I just got one off of Amazon that was a good deal with a pair of… Read more »
KCSO, That sounds like real utility! What brand did you choose, and at what price range? Winter in NC is nothing like it was in my youth in Philly/Boston, but it still gets pretty cold. Our house was built the same year my wife was born; back then insulation was what you put on pipes to keep them from freezing. Late 1950’s fuel oil prices were so cheap, no one bothered to think about it. I can’t aftermarket much R-value, with lath-and-plaster walls inside brick. No space available; maybe add some in the attic? Our experience with Duke Energy is… Read more »
Yeah, I hear ya on the storms.., in 2012, a derecho (very rare and severe wind storm) hit my area, and knocked out power in a lot of areas from Fairfax, VA up to Bethseda, MD., and in some areas, up to 3-4 weeks due to fallen trees and massive area, some people loose their marbles after 3 days, that was an eye open when you think you live in a professional civilized area… I did a lot of research and read the reviews, and went with a Jackery 3000 solar unit, you can charge it via AC in few… Read more »
I still have a gas generator.. Solar veterans system starts like $5k i$h. Shut out on FHG just ratified my opinion and FACTS about the USM..to wit: “Collectors be damned, in MEZAK we trust….or the authorized buyers, or bulk folk, solo numismatist s can….l
The US Mint Sucks!!!! They sent me a blemished FHG!!! Visible to the naked eye. There is absolutely NO quality control. One glance and you can see the damage. And when you call customer service they sit on the phone until you are done and say “I’m sorry, would you like to return the coin” So, I’m either stuck with a blemished coin or without one. This is not the first time this has happened. I want what I paid for! An unblemished coin that they offer for sale. The mint SUCKS
Steve I’m sorry to hear that, I would be very disappointed as well. I’ve been looking at several of the Privies online, and I can tell you that many of those are plagued with getting “dusted” with minute gold dust, as well as some larger “chunks”. Several are 70’s.. A few have a “smudge” of flakes, almost as if the flakes were on the blank, then pressed onto the surface. My theory as to why can wait. What’s your blemish like? 1) Small flakes(chunks)? or, 2) Small “pressed” flake field smudge?..Like the photo below(the up arrow)… As an aside joke..Go… Read more »
Rick, without touch or blowing how can u be sure not into surface and a 70, huh. We’ll look @ the seller. To me the reverse came out superior to Liberty
John,
The coin pictured above with the zoomed flaws(red arrows) is a 70.
It is Privy coin #33…
Here, for your finger zooming pleasure–see Privy coin #33(PR70DCAM) for yourself! Flake flaws, strikethrough thread, “V” for Ventris mark, Rim flaws, we’ve got it all…..
The FHG/FHS Reverse is great!
Love that V! It was visible on the mint’s first depiction
Steve, quality is job 4 at mint, profits, bulk sales, early drops for those inthe know…etc. Last time I bought several coin & currency sets for gifting, I had to return eight out of 10 because the federal reserve notes were upside down and sealed in the holder. How does that happen?
Update:The mint is making good. I was contacted by the customer service supervisor who was really nice. She agreed to replace the coin for me. The coin is in transit to the mint. I will advise once I receive replacement.
Flowing Hair. Yellow Hair. Long Hair. Weren’t these all names that the Indians gave for George Armstrong Custer?
Hey Everyone! GUESS WHAT?????!!! Today, just arrived, the US Mint ‘Minting Unique Memories’ holiday gift guide… AND, Lo and Behold.., Product Item 24YG is available For Sale! Horahhh! If it’s in the Holiday Gift Guide.., then it must be available now, right?! I mean if just hast to be.., so I am going go buy it now… Blahahahahahaaa…. CW – 24 Nov – It took collectors four minutes Nov. 14 to place sufficient orders with the United States Mint to exhaust the bureau’s authorized issue of over 17,000 Proof 2024 230th Anniversary, Flowing Hair, High Relief, .9999 fine gold dollars at $3,640 per coin. The price of the sold coins quickly escalated for resale on the secondary market at hundreds of dollars above issue price. Orders for the gold dollars were limited to one per household. As the number of potential buyers increased exponentially online, those trying to place orders were routed to a “waiting room” in the… Read more »

U.S. Mint spokesman Michael White said Nov. 18 that 2,000 of the Proof gold dollars were reserved for direct sale to the 18 unnamed dealers that comprise the Authorized Bulk Purchase Program. The ABPP dealers are able to place orders for the coins for pickup a week before the launch of sales to the general public.
The ABPP dealers acquire the coins at a 5 percent premium above the retail price charged to the general public. Of the 2,000 Proof gold dollars reserved for the ABPP dealers, the dealers placed orders for 1,994 of the allotment.
5% on the retail price (anticipate the week prior to release) of $3,740 = $187, or $3,927 total per coin, so $287 over the 14 Nov price, if you were lucky to grab one…

The bureau also previously recorded a sellout for the Matte Finish .999 fine silver 2024 silver medal. The medals, limited to a product release of 50,000 units at $104 per unit when it went on sale Oct. 15, had a sales total online of 49,996 medals as of Oct. 24. Secondary market resale for silver medals habve been recorded at multiples of the issue price.
Kinda reads as if a two-coin set is off the table, and another 7,000 FHG, or some % there of, will show up at Texas fulfillment at some time in the near future… may be?
4 – Secondary market The online collectibles auction and direct sales market eBay reports the completion of multiple resales for the gold Flowing Hair, High Relief dollars. An example of the gold dollar graded and encapsulated Proof 70 by Certified Acceptance Corporation Grading was recorded sold on ebay Oct. 16 for $6,695. A gold dollar in Mint packaging resold Nov. 14 for $4,600. A similar example in Mint packaging sold the same day on eBay for $4,950. A third example from a different seller sold Nov. 14 in Mint packaging for $4,539.99. On Nov. 15, another gold dollar in Mint… Read more »
Would really suck to buy now on the secondary.., and then have a bunch of FHGs show up on the mint’s website for $3,590, even more sucky at $3,540
The Trump Dump sold off gold hard today….
On 11-24 a FHG inOGP SOLD on eBay for $4,000. Loss for 5he flipper, more to drop?

“The U.S. Mint reported that it took collectors only four minutes to deplete the inventory of available Flowing Hair gold dollars and a robust secondary market has developed.”
Implies more are on the way..,
Believe the above should read, “It took collectors four minutes Nov. 14 to place sufficient orders with the United States Mint to exhaust the bureau’s [available inventory of the] authorized issue of over 17,000 Proof
How does this CW Nov 24 report jive with the Mint reducing the FHG product limit to 10,000 (down from the original product limit = 17,500 with mintage limit = 17,500) a week ago, as well as the reported Mint combined sales figure = 9,935 as of Nov 19. Also note from CW: The Mint sold 500 of the Proof FH gold dollars Nov. 14 at the Whitman Baltimore Expo; and According to White, four obverse and four reverse dies bearing the 230 privy mark were used to strike the privy-marked gold pieces. The average die life for the obverse… Read more »
There’s a lot the doesn’t jive, having read it 3 times, and comparing it to previous related articles…
There’s these ghost ships, that literally float around the Pacific, uncrewed, no power…. They just float around without anyone at the helm…. That’s the US Mint as it relates to this release…
No one has a plan, no one knows what the F is going on, and most importantly, no one can articulate what’s supposed to be happening,,. Who’s on First?! That’s the question…
Oh, for what it’s worth, I bounced the following off of a Numismatic Literary Giant,
“U.S. Mint spokesman Michael White confirmed to Coin World via email Oct. 30 that production of the entire authorized mintage was achieved.”
He said ‘authorized mintage’ means they struck all 17,500..,
Said Giant got shut out as well.., & peeved! There’s some heavy hitters in the collecting community that got the door slammed shut on their grill, just like the rest of us…
Maybe the struck them all.., it’s just that 7,250 went out the BACK DOOR, and not the FRONT DOOR…
“Mintage Limit” = Apple.
“Product Limit” = Orange.
“Authorized Mintage” = Peach.
Well.., guess that’s it, 10k it is.., astonishing,
Per Google AI, “Authorized mintage, or maximum mintage, is the maximum number of coins that an issuing authority approves for production. Once the authorized mintage is reached, the coin is considered “sold out”.”
Best said by Looney Tunes..,
“That’s all Folks”
And All the Very Best to You ALL in Your Modern Coin Collecting Endeavors!
I bought some nice wine instead and saved $3,400
Thanks for distinguishing the US Mint terms for numismatic coin products produced in limited quantities (limited mintage): maximum mintage (authorized mintage); product limit; and mintage limit. For the FHG coin (Item 24YG), the maximum (authorized) mintage = 10,000, the original product limit was 17,500 and the (revised) product limit = 10,000, and mintage limit = 17,500.
Footnote: I think the product limit change to 10,000 was first noted here by John Q. Coinage on Monday 11/18/24, following the release date Thursday 11/14/24.
Yet, as we’ve seen, another FHG was struck with the same die marks as the “first-struck, privy-marked Proof gold dollar”. How many more as well? I believe either these officials don’t know what they’re talking about or are outright lieing. It is the government afterall.
“Yet, as we’ve seen, another FHG was struck with the same die marks as the “first-struck, privy-marked Proof gold dollar”. How many more as well?”

The Mint excels at revisionist history. IT WAS A <3m sellout of like 7k coins v. The 17,270 promised, represented and TOUTED
JQC, You can say that AGAIN!! Talk about being deceiving! I don’t even recognize this Mint anymore. I didn’t think it could get much worse than it was. Just goes to show you I’m NOT always correct! No Transparency what so ever! Why the Secrets? I just don’t get it! When I was a Contractor, I had a slogan and it went like this, “an Informed Customer is a Happy Customer!! While I was a Contractor for about 15 years, I never once had a Customer not pay me, hold back any amount of money for any reason and was… Read more »
