Today, Dec. 4, the United States Mint released two rounds of sales data after a one-week hiatus, both highlighting the 2024-S Morgan & Peace Silver Dollar Reverse Proof Set as the clear standout.
Released Nov. 21 for $215, the two-coin set featuring a 2024-S Reverse Proof Morgan Silver Dollar and a 2024-S Reverse Proof Peace Silver Dollar achieved a four-day debut of 149,346 units, making it the top weekly seller. It advanced another 13,119 during its first full week of release, landing at 162,465 units, or 61.9% of the total mintage of 262,500, and remained the Mint’s most popular product of the week.
For comparison, last year’s set was priced at $185, limited to 250,000 units, and sold out at about the 24-hour mark.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 503 numismatic products. The data revealed that 125 products outperformed their sales from the previous week, compared to 94 in the prior report. Five products experienced a week-over-week increase of more than 1,000 units, the same as previously.
Additionally, 2 products posted modest negative weekly sales, also the same as in the previous report.

Rich, as you follow ASEs very closely, I’m interested in your thoughts as to whether the low Unc mintages (if they hold) will translate into higher values down the road? My cursory look at resales for past years in OGP suggest not so much. Surprisingly to me the Unc just aren’t in as much demand vs proofs with higher mintages.
So now the Mint is doing 1-oz silver American Eagle proof coins for each of the armed service branches in 2025. I thought the 2.5 oz and 1-oz silver medals would be enough. And still the mystical Space Force is MIA.
Major D, very interesting twist on the the 2025-W American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin – Army/Marine Corps and 2025-S American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin – Navy, will it be by Privy Mark? And since the new 2025 Product Schedule of 70 product releases runs through Fall ’25 (and products may be added to the schedule at any time), might the Mint still release a American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin for the Air Force and Coast Guard in 2025?

I wonder what all of the mintage of all the ASE options are going to be. I guess the stated maximum mintages and product limit might be an indicator of the actual mintage, but from FHG and FHS we learned things can change and are very blurry. With declining sales (speculation is due to higher prices) I wound if the US Mint will do a smaller production run than the stated mintage limit or the product limit. Those are some very good points there, Vinnie C. As far as how deep the pockets of the big dealers are, I can’t answer that with any exactitude but I believe it would be fair to say they are far, far deeper than ours.
Reminds me of those duster coats in the westerns. They look like they had deep pockets, enough to hold a six shooter in ’em.

One could argue the 1 oz. silver medals don’t count since they’re medals and not coins.
As for the Space Force, perhaps it’s simply Lost in Space. “Danger, Will Robinson!”
Not to mention the bronze. I guess that they doubly don’t count.
Honestly, Major D, I don’t mind the bronze medals since they are not pretending to be something they’re not. The silver medals that are paired with gold coins, on the other hand, take the place of silver coins which at least in my mind makes them forever bogus.
Not the FHS medal. It looks nice and I’m still bewildered as to why they didn’t mint it as a coin, as they did with the gold one. It’s doubled in value but I don’t want to part with it for a long time.

I’m sure it’s a nice medal but it will never cease to stop bothering me that the Mint isn’t allowed to make silver coins of its own choosing like it is able to in the case of the gold ones.
Kaiser, for me it’s all just overkill. How many variations of the same theme will get repeated ad nauseam?

Ad nauseum is a truly relevant way to put it, especially since the longer the Mint keeps up with its increasingly more errant approaches to producing “new” coinage the more likely we will all sooner rather than later become quite nauseous ourselves.

As we can already see with some issues, such as the Gold American Buffalo. Less than 10,000 have been sold and the mintages keep falling every year. I’m seeing the same with the ASEs and Morgan and Peace Dollars.

Depending on how overly pricy, uninteresting, confusing or deceptive the delivery to the public the fruits of that schedule end up being, the jig may finally be up too.
I don’t see any pictures of what the items look like. I guess I’ll have to go to a non Mint site to see what the items will look like. 🙁

The FHS has performed better than expected. One may surmise that as prices rise, sales will fall. I remember the 1994 ASE and how that effected sales.
