There is also an ARMY version. The mix of mintmarks (W) and (S) is also interesting.
Numismatrix,
I’m a bit lost on the “Army version”, in regard to a version of what? Just curious.
I meant this line in the schedule :;
American Eagle 2025 One Ounce Silver Proof Coin – Army West Point (W) Summer
Numismatrix,
Many thanks for taking the time and effort to clear that up; much appreciated. I’ve now gone and looked at the description of this item on the Mint’s 2025 schedule and it could happen that in the midst of my rigorous belt tightening in regard to my Mint purchases it could in fact be something I might still be interested in. Time will tell and thanks again.
Franky, I would prefer these motifs – coins for our true heroes – Veterans, rather than some of the unnamed-upcoming offerings.
Numismatrix,
I couldn’t agree with you more. The sacrifices of the members of our Armed Forces from the very beginning of our country until now, those which have stood between us and the ongoing possibility of invasion and/or domination by various and assorted aggressor nations need to be commemorated for each generation anew so we never forget.
I`m an avid collector as well since 1985. The explanation on the Army Silver Eagle is much appreciated and as an US Army Retired combat veteran of 21 years, certainly appreciate your comments. Thank you so much for supporting all Veterans.
Numismatrix,
A picture is worth a thousand words. Who can’t be moved by this?
A sponge can only hold so much water.
I’ve never thought of myself as a sponge. A saturated sponge at that. 🙂
VinnieC,
Nothing wrong with being one of those as long as it’s a sponge of knowledge.
A market can only absorb so much new product before it…….
Aw come on, there is an easy Peary market to sell FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND CLAD HALVES..moronic is too simple
;>?
I just think there is too much modern material being mass produced by all of the mints from around the world and that eventually the market will up-chuck.
E 1,
…explodes?
…implodes?
…freezes?
…collapses?
…vanishes?
Alright, I give up!
Kaiser,
……reach an inflection point due to the over saturation of supply.
Peace out
E 1,
Got it. Thanks!
Namaste
Decisions. Decisions… (as AKBob previously opined) As the year winds down (and before my free loyalty shipping goes away) I’m contemplating making one last Mint purchase. There’s really nothing that I want as a collector, so this would be with an eye out towards accumulating value later. But what could this be? What, if anything, will have legs (again, using AKBob’s parlance) It seems that the collectors already have what they want from this year’s remaining product holdouts. So, why would they want to pay more for any later down the road? Some low mintages are enticing at first glance,… Read more »
Major D,
I second the choice of the annual Proof and Uncirculated Sets as the most notable. desirable and affordable collector-wise, but not for those who want increased value.
I keep on thinking about the 2004 mint set because of all the talk here about the 2004 nickels. Still with the production numbers I would characterize it as uncommon but not rare. I mentioned elsewhere the circulating 2023 UK Atlantic Salmon 50p mintage was 200,000. The interesting thing there is you can’t get the same coin from the Royal Mint it the UNC set because it has the UNC set coins have a privy mark. That circulating coin seems to be going nuts, but It seems like the interest is disproportionate considering the UK has a lower population. I… Read more »
30M nickels….. maybe 140,000 Jefferson collectors. So, Nrinks, et all, will salt away the 2024s for a decade. Nah, think the 2008 low #s
VinnieC, The 2019 W ATB Quarters and the 2020 W V75 ATB Quarters have a reported mintage of 2M per. In MS-66 they price out at $50 each and in MS-67 at $100 each. There is a premium on them and they are hard to find in high grade. 25 years down the road in a high grade they could be worth some money. But, I much prefer the 2023 P Extra V Lincoln Shield Cent over these. . I assume the 2004 Nickels as being the Peace and Keelboat. I have numerous boxed two roll sets from the mint.… Read more »
I got some bags of the Buffalo and Keelboat nickels…. Face like
Same here…but they just take up space.
I accumulated a whole bunch (technical term) of those “Westward Ho!” nickels from circulation and I don’t regret it. They’re rather nice.
Opps, I meant the 2024 Mint Set. I was thinking 2024, but typed 2004 twice. At $29 they are not that cheap though. I also goofed the mintage of the 2019 W and 2020 W quarters. For two million of each quarter, I would have expected to find one in change. I guess as @JohnQCoinage suggested Brinks and Loomis got first crack at all of these. I think @JCQ read past my 2004 mistake too. @E1 I did play the 2019-W and 2020-W game in mostly MS-65 (I only could afford American Memorial Park and Marsh-Billings in MS-64). As you… Read more »
VinnieC, I’ve been trying to convince myself to buy a dozen of the 2024 Mint sets as well as Proof sets. The 2024 mintages are very low for each series, but what’s holding me back is the availability of 2023 sets (with maybe the lowest modern mintages since 1958) at resale prices not much higher than what the Mint sold them for. Decisions, decisions….
TRM does produce some nice coins! I have a few unslabbed bullion Tudor Beasts through dealers and a couple proof/reverse proof sets in OGP directly from the mint.
Major pretty much 100% of the time I see a USM issue as a winner, I get them and it’s a LOSER long term… 2009 State Ag sets, SF ASE anniv. Set, etc…..
losers
You’re dead-on right John Q. The hardest thing to do in life is to admit when you’re wrong and change course. It’s really beyond that time for me. Everything about collecting modern coins from the Mint is a mistake and I’m done.
I stopped a few years ago…. I tried for aFHG the shenanigans & mint misrepresentations just made them deader to me
The W and V75 never ever “really “ circulated. please any here who got one chirp up. I went thru $600 of quarters rolls, some shotgun and new, I got 2 Lowell W in a susbsequent issue roll. No V75, V75 from the USM, nahh all housed w Ryder Industrial Ltd. As with FHG Ventirsian Kruger Industrial Smoothing may have all those FHG for surface sanitized offers
John Q. Coinag,
There will be no chirping coming from my direction. I’ve never seen either one of those in circulation and I’m 99.99% certain I never will.
John Q.C., I have about a dozen W’s collected from quarter rolls, with half of those the 2020 V75 (everything but the bat one). This is back when I was searching bank rolls in 2022- doing about $100 (10 rolls) worth/month. Compared to finding only one pre-1964 silver quarter in that time, so the W’s had a 12:1 advantage. And I’d prefer to have the W over the junk silver as they seem to be worth more. But I’ve never received either in any change
You did better than I, I went thru $500 in rolls and got 2 W Lowell’s. Nothing else. I did get all 2024d cents and dimes in change today…. NO NICKELS
Well.., unfortunately there will not be a surprise FHG/FHS 2-Coin set release –
A very timely and informative article found in ANA, The Reading Room, by Mr. Golino, follows..,
Did the Flowing Hair Dollars Sell Out?Published December 6, 2024 | By Louis Golino The Proof 2024 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair High-Relief gold dollar, launched on November 14, is arguably the most important coin the United States Mint has produced since the 2009 Ultra High-Relief gold double eagle ($20). That is because of the 1794 dollar’s history and the impressive way the mint has reimagined the piece with 21st-century technology. It is undoubtedly one of the finest designs of all time, rendered exquisitely in high relief. In addition, the coin is the first laser-engraved piece ever to be struck by the… Read more »
U.S. Mint Says Coin Is Gone On December 2, in response to an inquiry for this piece, Michael White at the United States Mint confirmed that the coin has indeed sold out. He explained that while the mint could strike as many as 17,500 of these gold coins, they decided not to exercise that option. Instead, they limited the coin to only 10,000, making it one of the lowest mintage gold coins in U.S. Mint history. Mr. White could not elaborate on why mint officials made only 10,000 of these trendy coins, adding that it was unrelated to a shortage… Read more »
Silver Medals
A similar situation occurred with the silver medal, which had the same design as the gold coin. The 49,996 medals were sold online, and 10,000 were reserved for bulk sales.
The medal has an authorized mintage of 75,000, but it seems the Mint also opted to make less than that amount of these.
Collectors now know they must purchase gold coins on the secondary market if they want one.
Dear U.S. Mint Leadership – BOLLOCKS!
REVERAND and a hard F you LIARS, FRAUDS come to mind, misrepresenting facts and intentions…..
If I was someone sitting on the sidelines waiting for the other 7500 to be released and just read the above articles, I’d be headed to the Secondary Market ASAP as now that the cats out of the bag, these FHG’s are mostly likely going to be disappearing and being bought up. Let the “Legs” begin!! I got my wish of 10K for a mintage!! I’m now very happy. I’ve already got three of these, I may pick up a couple more now! 😉
Well, as always, Good Luck ALL!!!
Snooze, You lose!! 🙂
Enjoy and congratulations me I still refuse to pay more than issue prices for US Mint items, their lies and BS and no real NEED means squat for buying later. One sold recently OGP eBay $4,000! Loser flipper
John Q. Coinag,
Since the Mint’s prices are already exorbitant to begin with, whatever are we going to call what the “money lenders in the Temple” are charging for their flipping coins these days?
Congrats AK!
Keep Calm & Stack On,
As if the Mint’s price for gold coins isn’t steep enough already, now folks are resorting to buying from flippers for a much higher price.
DISGUSTING
Keep Calm & Stack On,
“The Proof 2024 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair High-Relief gold dollar, launched on November 14, is arguably the most important coin the United States Mint has produced since the 2009 Ultra High-Relief gold double eagle ($20).”
Much as is the case with all too many movies produced of late, this coin is a re-make, and not in the original metal. It appears that these days the application of pure originality doesn’t impress as much as does the creation of manipulated scarcity.
I agree, Kaiser. I much prefer the Bronco and Tree gold…..Original, interesting and low Mintages. Even the L&B was at least in the right neighborhood.
Christo,
I’m with you there. Just as the FH Dollar was an original in its time, the Bronco and the Tree are originals today. Time does march on.
Thanks Louis, the final straw for me, the USM was already on double probation l. Why, WHY would I even care about ANY US Mint issue ever again. I won’t. They lost me. Until Ryder 2.o…Ventris goes aloha we’re skrewed. APs bulksters, happy as clams, mint spokesman, kinda like listening to snake oil vendors
John Q. Coinage,
There’s really nothing to guarantee that Ryder 3.0 won’t be the worst yet.
I walk on he sunny side of the street… But, you got a good point there….
what. Sell 65% of an issue to APs, exclusive AP products I can see such. Mint would never want the GSA into it’s BBQ d books
John Q. Coinag,
I believe myself to be one of the most optimistic people to be walking this earth, but that does not include me having any faith in those who haven’t proven themselves trustworthy.
Thanks, John. All the best.
KC&SO, re: FHG mintage, I’d say it is classic market manipulation. To have the Mint spokesman say before the release that it produced the full amount, then to admit much later only half of that number was made. You have to ask, who benefitted? Who got rich? This is not unlike insider trading that used to land stock traders in jail. But it’s just another day at the Mint.
Major D, I’d like to know why the App’s & Bulk Purchasers got nearly 20% of the mintage!! The Mint knew it was going to only produce a mintage of 10K so they really should NOT have done any Advance Releases to APP’s or Bulk Purchasers. If they were going to do it, why not only do 10%? The Mints manipulations at its best! I, along with many others were shut out on purchasing one from the Mint and I was sitting on the sidelines waiting for more to be released as I wanted to purchase at least one from… Read more »
You’re right, AKBob, in that the Mint violated its own guidelines by allowing Bulk Purchasers to purchase 20% rather than 10% of the total mintage.
AKBob, I was on the fence with the FHG with an anticipated mintage of 17,500. I didn’t have a quick trigger thinking it would be around until the next day. In hindsight I have to believe that the dealers were clued in early that the mintage would be under 10K and that’s why it went as fast as it did. I really wish that the Mint would get investigated. Too many shady instances like this. But it seems to be par-for-the-course.
Major D,
“Shady” in our eyes and to our way of thinking, but SOP for the Gummint.
It was less than. 3 min sellout, I have the screenshots….
Yes, I know, and it surprised a lot of us.
Well, I’m sure the 20+% for APs never faced a screen freeze or website BS…. Huh
No, they get the red carpet service with the A-team security guards.
Ooh the Mint violated guidelines, Like Bluto and Animal house going on double secret probation…. They do WETF they.….THEY want to do, mission to assist collectors is Job 2, profits and self dealing ?) sales violation of guidelines, hey they never send a reminder and further irritating is the 4:30 AM bot drop$…. Louis can you look, into the ongoing 7:30 am, 4:30 HST “secret” RyderVentir$ drops….
Dropsy….droopsy…..dumb
Well said, concur!
Leo Getz, in Lethal Weapon 2, summed it up perfectly about the Drive Thru – USM is now synonymous with ‘the drive thru’
In my opinion the capping the FHS/FHG production wasn’t nefarious on the part of the US Mint. I think it is a misinterpretation of demand. I think they were looking at declining Morgan/Peace sales and other declining sales. Granted that FHS/FHG experienced the same price increases that plagued the rest of the product lines, from what I read on this blog, there seemed to be enough interest for a one and done situation. I don’t know. What do others think: evil, misguided, both?
I think it was an initial mistake w the 17,500, the. They lied and said they ,are them all, then they said no 10k production limit, now it’s there, Ltd. Sales to zaps capped at 10%, it’s only a cold sore, they sold 20% advance to APs and bulk. Mint says no planchet shortage, just a shortage of candor and honesty at the mint. Someone or oneS made beacoup buck$. Ventris was acting as a coin fluffer, hope y’all liked here movie, The Purge3
autp correct sux
John Q. Coinage,
“Coin fluffer”. Now that’s a good one!
FWIW – I feel sorry for the ASE collector.., they have a big decision to make in 2025,
How many mint marked ASE’s will there be? 6 ?
Not counting ASE BU’s with the prospect of another privy, such as a star, who knows…
Guessing they’ll be another 6 mint marked ASE’s in 2026, with AF, Coast Guard, & AF privies.., plus BU’s… crazy!
Keep Calm & Stack On,
We have oodles of scents of deodorant, countless flavors of ice cream, and now, ever greater varieties of coins. The Mint seems to be expanding its available product categories in an attempt to widen audience interest.
Herr Kaiser,
Don’t be giving the USM any ideas! We may soon be seeing deodorant, ice cream, etc. on coins from the Mint if the cartoon coins fly. I think JQC had a previous comment regarding sales of advertising space on US coins in the near future. I hope he’s not right!
Sir Sam-I-am,
In a sense the Mint has already moved into the advertising realm by extolling the virtues of the Superhero universe.
I still have trouble trusting the purity of the silver planchets used for the ASE collector coins. Those calcium spots and calcium growths of the past were just too hard to forget. Let’s hope they figured out the problem before they go hog wild with all of these new special ASE varieties. “On June 6, 2002, Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) introduced bill S. 2594, “Support of American Eagle Silver Bullion Program Act”, “to authorize the Secretary of the Treasury to purchase silver on the open market when the silver stockpile is depleted.” The bill was passed by the Senate on… Read more »
Spot on VinnieC.
Evil, misguided? Neither.
You once said you never get lucky with hot Mint releases and fire sales.. Well, you finally did it!! But you worked hard for it. Many got shut down(again)that morning…
Congratulations!! I’m very happy for you, it’s a winner coin.
Thanks @Rick. My luck is sometimes a little better on fire sales mornings than release day. I wish I would have known about the fire sales during the 2019-S ASE ERP drop.
Rick I’ve hit a few last was the 2018 PdE, but since a lot of bagels, Enhanced Rev ASE, Ty1 & 2 proof AGEs, the Flowing Head scenario was pure mint PT…. I am watching OGP FHG as they have sold @4$k OGP…..time will tell
in the past GSA dollars, Botanic Garden Sets, 1998 Kennedy sets, all were obtained. Return to a 0rdering windo, could be 48h even, the current BS is torture and a recurring nightmare to many/most of us, APs, Bulksters and Ventris sleep like babies
VinnieC, it wouldn’t have been nefarious if they told the truth about the real production amount instead of misleading the public by insinuating that the whole 17,500 were made. And in the process provided the dealers well in excess of their 10% cap.
Major D,
Wholly in concurrence with you on this. Many collectors based their decisions about purchasing the FHG on the quoted 17,500 quantity. To later (clandestinely) change that to barely over half, with no public notification, was just plain wrong (and possibly illegal). The intent may not have been foul, but the taint and scent of wrongdoing are pervasive. Perception can easily become reality.
Keep Calm & Stack On,
Which, of course, should not come as a surprise to anyone. No 2-coin set from the Mint or for that matter anything else by way of the unexpected. And so it goes.
It’s interesting that while the above column is all about next year’s US Mint coin releases the thread following it concerns itself primarily with an already done deal.
Kaiser, So where would this new information about the mintage produced being limited to 10K? Maybe back 9 Articles that hardly anyone goes back to! This new information about the FHG is actually very important for “those” that have been waiting to see if there is going to be anymore released! Someone announced the other day on another Article that the 2025 Schedule was available. I’ve seen many, many times another subject matter has taken over the Article that’s about something else. I don’t see a problem as you do. The FHG is one of the most important and nicest… Read more »
AKBob,
I don’t recall any mention in my comment of having any sort of problem with this situation. I was merely making a simple observation, not offering an opinion.
AKBob,
I forgot to say that regardless of any misunderstanding I appreciated your take on why it is often helpful to continue previous discussions in subsequent threads.
Like a referee moving a goal line DURING a game huh….!!!!
Now, Now, Children. Put your guns away.
No just a red challenge flag, to the US Atty Gen and GSA for the obvious shenanigans and VIOLATIONS of mint “policy “….. ahh make a $40:clad ornament
@KCSO thanks for posting the Golino article. On another blog the have been been verbal sparring, insults and innuendo concerning whether the 7,500 FHGs will ever show up. Some there also posted the same article. I ended up getting a FHG in the 7:30AM (5:30AM for me) morning fire sale (don’t hate me) after failing on opening day. It arrived before Thanksgiving. The post office held it for signature and my heart stopped when they couldn’t find it when I went to pick it up. They found it a few hours later. My conclusion is gold is too stressful and… Read more »

Read thru it, interesting minor talk on the bait & switch and hiding 7,500 or 20% for the big guy$…I.e. APs, bulksters, directors cousins @4:30am…. Hmmm
Congrats on snagging the last of the small remaining lot..,
I’ve seen some auctions and BIN’s realist, 2-3 times over, we appear to have hit the point of supply price points exceeding remaining buyer’s willingness to pay $900 – $1,100 over mint release price…. So the buyer pool is getting smaller…. And/or, the upcoming 12 Dec Privy action is taking center stage, and buyer focus….
Thanks @KCSO
I much prefer this line up. I could get use to this.
Bingo!
The Ref lol… His jaw needs to be wired back into place hahaha!
E 1,
Holy Toledo, Batman! They’re wearing what appear to be regulation helmets, standard (albeit flapping) shoulder pads and fiercely-armored sports bras but apparently not a damn thing to protect their holy of holies; what’s that all about?
This should be on National TV. I need something new. Professional Women’s Volleyball at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk is another favorite.
Cheers
In thinking about the Mint’s annual sets (proof set, uncirculated set, silver proof set), I started to wonder about the per cent of any year’s set mintage being intact sets in individual collections vs held as inventory (multiples held by dealers, flippers, collectors, and gifters). Further, the per cent of sets that are broken up where coins are either used in collections or inventories within albums, slabbed, or cash and/or junk. I came up with a Venn diagram to illustrate. Will you be bidding on any?
Maybe. Now that they have a total of 231 FHG Privies on the block at Stacks & Bowers. Correct me if I am wrong.
231? I count only 230…where are you seeing the extra one?
Lots 1 thru 231 = 230 inclusive
December 2024 Historic Privy Mark 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair High Relief Gold Coins on behalf of The United States Mint – Lots 11001-11230 Thinking it’s going to be a far more entertaining spectacle than the Tyson / Paul bout… I thought the auction would keep the flippers away, nope, the one that has 4 Presale dropped his price to $17,000…, apparently sold one presale, as offering 3 now.., What sucks for those going after 69’s is that this clown has his sold/list price set, therefore will drive up the bids to get one of more, up to a point, of… Read more »
I changed my handle….
I count 5 Presale flippers…. Prices listed from $49,999, to $38,000, to $25k, ..down to $16,666,67, appropriately priced….
5 is a lot, IMHO

Keep Calm & Stack On and KCSO, are you the same individual? Or is it more the case of Kaiser and Kaiser Aluminum (two different people)?
Major D, I also noticed a John Q. Coinag and John Q. Coinage
I knocked an E off by accident t
It’s me.., earlier this morning, I tried changing my handle to –
“they $@&% you at the USM drive thru..!”
Though it wouldn’t take, so after a few iterations, just went back to KCSO….
How long do these auctions last?
Are they concurrent or consecutive?
Anyone seen any info on the conduct of the auction?
I just check USM website (nada, go figure), and Stack’s.., couldn’t find it,
KC,
Consecutive, one right after another til they’re all gone! Probably around 2 minutes per coin, maybe more on some hot ones…
Here’s a taste of a typical SBG Auction.. perhaps it’ll be different but these are sort of anti-climactic in a way, unless you’re at an SB privy party(like a Tyson pay-per-view party LOL)!!
In the video below skip to **44-45 minutes into it to get past the pre-auction stuff(unless interested in learning about Stacks Bowers) .. In fact you can watch the FH auction either on their website or on YouTube live on Thursday,
Wish me luck…….

Thanks Rick for the heads up, and appreciate the link..,
AND good luck, you’re gonna need it partner!
Hope you feel lucky! I’m all in now.., with half a mil equity line poised for auction action! Go Big or Go Home!
MAY THE BEST MAN WIN!
j.k – I’ll be all in on a bag of popcorn, maybe two… extra buttery,
Serious, hope you land ‘the one’!
All good luck All!
& in 2025 – don’t forget – they screw you at the USM drive thru!
So don’t ask for the Happy Meal!
I’ll need a lot of luck bro, 230 is miniscule in a worldwide retail coin grab. A frenzy is approaching!.
Stack’s upped my bidding limit, but not my wife, yet?! As a new customer just 6 months ago, my token 5K bidding limit was chewed up and spit out after the first week at the privy party!
I won’t be able to swing this potential deal without her knowing about it.. Time for a little sweet talkin’ lol
Rick,
S & B raised mine to 25K for the auction. I wanted that in case some sell ‘on the cheap’, but I’m not anticipating these to go where I’d be comfortable buying one. It never hurts to be prepared though!
Good Luck to you!
Correction they increased my bid amount $35k.
There are several on the cheap(so to speak)at 8K, and none are cheaper than 8 as of tonight. I’m going to guess those are going to go up tomorrow, and hopefully not too, too much more!?
Thanks, and good luck to you if you jump in tomorrow.
I trust the sweet talkin’ has occurred and you’re all set! If not, be Captain DOGE! CAPT Defender of Gender Equality! The wife should have been raised the same amount, so raise her.. and while you’re at it.., increase the limits on both accounts! I watched the video – Thanks Much for That! Impressive, and you’re going to need her help as this is going to go on for a while, to cover for Bio breaks and work calls…. I received Wayne’s email this a.m., and on a whim, I just called to ask some dumb questions to better understand… Read more »
I guess some auctions will conclude in about 15-20 seconds if there’s no other bidders.., or for like #1, it could go on for a few minutes… ?
If they average 30 secs per auction, then that’s 115 minutes,
Or nearly 4 hours at a minute per..
Yes, Wayne is a nice guy. I was just talking to the wifey tonight, and I couldn’t tell her! She was however depositing a check for me as I am far from home, so I won’t have to ask her for the full amount if I do win. My ‘equality’ bargaining chip for her is that she will get ALL of my coins later!.. I won’t be able to follow the whole auction because I’m busy with work. At noon ET here in Sunny FL I’ll check things out on my lunch break when the auction(action!)starts! The coins I’m interested… Read more »
Rick, I sure hope you’re successful. I just couldn’t justify this coin to the wife. I usually can justify purchases but I also can usually convince her it’s a great investment. In good conscience, I couldn’t “guarantee” there would be a substantial upside. I think there will be but this Privy coin is a first of its kind so I just couldn’t with a clear conscience tell her that it would indeed have a great upside. I think eventually it definitely will and it could have an upside/legs from the get go, depending on what you purchased it for in… Read more »

Just went thru all the FHG eBay offers. Tons for $4,500-5,400 without apparently a rush on. Time may allow a purchase close or so,to,USM issue price. Of course, the AP like AMPEX, etc. have tons as well. Great job providing access and exclusive purchases for the AP upper class new “base” at USM….. I hope they eat them, you need Food, Shelter, and water beyond that there is no NEED for a puffed up, insider designed FHG or FHS the mint cooks books & #$ on as well….
It’s merely a shiny new object. If anyone must possess it to make their lives whole, by all means pay out your ask for the shiny new object. I fortunately don’t need any of these and would only buy one if they were appropriately priced from the start…which of course they were not.
Not to beat a dead horse here… Though to your point(s) previous made, JQC, if one does a search on dealer sites, there’s A LOT of graded FHG available…. I’m speaking of dealers that do not typical offer graded new releases.., to the extent that they have in the past, as they have with this one.., such as SD Bullion, and other smaller retail outlets… Being one that’s overly observant and remembers too much stuff, a curse, I’m somewhat shocked with the amount of graded FHGs sitting on dealer websites…. While you can’t prove it, I’m in your camp, that… Read more »
KCSO,
My wife picked up a really clean rack grade M1 (Winchester mfg) through the DCM many years ago; hers even has a very clear stock cartouche. When we needed to make it more friendly to short-armed folks, we bought a replacement stock, cut it off at the rear sling mount, and added a 1″ soft recoil pad. Her comment upon firing it after said alteration was,” did you have our gunsmith re-barrel this to .243?”. Couple of cans of Lake City M2 ball stashed, in clips. It looks a little odd, with the short stock, but shoots great!
The Mrs has really really good taste, you landed yourself a Winner! That’s awesome, I need to move out west.., a frog farts in my ‘hood and people freak out.., Thanks for sharing and happy shooting.., oh, and I can’t image lugging that beautiful beast around plus an ammo belt while being shot at while carrying every thing else, in 1944 clothes & boots…, we’re such candy assess now.., Amazing Greatest Generation Ever…. I so wish they would free up some of the those M1A/14’s.., got to pop one on auto once.., it was my Judge Smails Ooooh Billy Billy… Read more »

AKBob – don’t you beat me to this now! Share the wealth pal!
KCSO, Wise Guy, lol! I don’t see the prices coming down! In OGP, you have to sell it for minimally $4,040.00 just to break even with EBay fees and that doesn’t include shipping! Asking $4400-4500 isn’t unreasonable. The graded ones I’m really disappointed at the greed by the dealers. I personally thought the graded ones should have sold for under $5K, more like $4500 – $5000 depending on the label. This time of year money is tight for a lot of folks. With Christmas this month, there’s a lot of folks that are traveling and buying gifts. After the New… Read more »
KCSO,
Purveyors of coins on Ebay can clearly not be accused of being immune from delirium.
Not all that long ago it seemed that the value of silver would never go above $25 an ounce. Now that it’s passed that spot price by seven dollars perhaps the sky’s the limit.
Herr Kaiser,
Sadly, despite the roughly 15 or 16 to 1 natural abundance ratio, silver seems to be the Rodney Dangerfield of PM’s…it just “don’t get no respect”. Current price differential of almost 84 to 1 in favor of gold. Don’t get me wrong; I love silver, and own almost enough to satisfy me (I only need about a dozen more ASE’s), but I don’t understand why the love isn’t there in the marketplace compared to gold.
I sure do miss Rodney’s humor. I’d say there is an extreme amount of market manipulation with silver keeping it down.
Sir Sam-I-am, If silver were allowed to float to its actual relative value it would likely end up being set at roughly $170 per ounce. I think one possible reason for the concerted price depression of silver to be taking place is to allow for at least one precious metal to be within reach of the general public, especially considering the rather prohibitive price of the others. Another impetus for this artificially low valuing of silver might be to prevent there from being another precious metal that central banks and/or government vaults would have to maintain in quantity in order… Read more »
Kaiser,
Gold is up $30 an ounce today (12/10/2024) and broke out above $2,700.
Also, GOOG is up $8.00 per share on news of their new Quantum Computing Chip.
It’s all good today
E 1,
As always very good news for the sellers; not at all advantageous for the buyers.
Yet more BS from the Mint on its web site:
Since the web site change nothing functions anymore. Even looking at the schedule or coins is a chore bc you have to load upteen many pages to get to what you want when it used to all be there on one page.
But I bet that Mint employee behind the change got a special award and raise.
It’s hard to be a coin collector anymore.
Oh, and this Michael White guy is especially useless.
Anyone wanting to waste some time, just do a Google search “Michael White US Mint” and see all of the spin this guy has produced over the years.
Careful, Major D, that may just be his going-to-work Clark Kent type identity.
Major D,
The new Mint website is the result of bringing an extremely bad concept to fruition.
It seems each generation of the Mint’s website is worse than its predecessor…. Page loading for items requirements of new site is ridiculous
John Q. Coinage,
Truer words could not be said. I don’t at all enjoy trying to navigate that mess.
Well…, guess I had better post something article related, or I’ll be in bad standing with the opine police (The OP)… American Eagle 2025 One Ounce Silver Proof Coin – Navy What would get me really excited and IMO be a really big hit beyond the collector base would be – Super-sized Privy, or larger than typical Privy of Eagle & Anchor (Navy Flag Emblem) Plain Rim Rim incused with: United States Navy, 13 October 1775 That would be Super Cool…., And then to fulfill Ventris’ $$$ Grabbing Ambitions Auction Plan ( the VMGAAP), the USM could auction off a… Read more »
KCSO,
Well, you can’t be accused of not knowing precisely what you want in every respect.
The US Mint hasn’t done anything with gold inlays yet (a la RCM).
Major D,
Nor has it ventured into diamond accents, which can easily be the next step.
Ok, things are getting a little drawn out and boring waiting for the big auction on Thursday. In the mean time, for all you “Rocket Motor” guys. You have to check out this insane but true story on Paramount Pictures (via Amazon Prime). This thing will blow your freaking mind and you will never think about the aerospace industry in the same way ever again. A true story. No joke. Check it out. I am so surprised it is even on film.

Number 1
“Sold $440,000”
E 1,
My customary “measuring stick” for any sizeable expense like that is my annual Condo Fee. Since the latter comes to roughly ten grand I have a choice between buying one of those PR-69DCAMS or continuing to enjoy a place to live. Hmmm…
Kaiser,
Too rich for my blood. I’ll stick with keeping my roof. I’ve already spent too much on other coins this month. So, look for me riding on the Valley Light Rail eating a can of baked beans and thumbing through a Dansco. Yes, the guy with the reindeer hat, that’s me.
Peace Out
E 1,
Ditto to that. And I’m all for baked beans and train trips, with or without coins.
I’ll make it thirds then. Happily, we’ll always have more than a few coins to rub together.
Life in the cheap seats.

KCSO,
Many thanks for the Honorable Mention in regard to the Low Bid guestimate!
Does this mean I’m the lucky recipient of a virtual Virtual FHG Privy Coin?
By the way, KCSO, thanks for doing that…it was great fun! 🙂
All 230 sold out with the lowest price coin coming in at $26,000. There must be more high-end collectors out there than I thought. I am waiting for someone to add up the selling price of every coin to determine the auction total. AT the very least it will be more than $5.98M. Not bad for $610K melt value. I would say the Mint had a very good day.
E 1,
I suppose any time you can multiply your sales proceeds by ten is a very good day.
What did you do to ruin a useable site format like 2024? Printing a production schedule is like pulling teeth. Maybe I should just buy from coin dealers now.
