American ingenuity from Illinois, Alabama, Maine, and Missouri is celebrated on four coins featuring a unique finish in the U.S. Mint’s 2024 American Innovation Dollar Reverse Proof Set, released today.
Each coin is part of the Mint’s American Innovation® $1 Coin Program. The series honors American inventions and inventors, with coins representing each state, the five U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia.
The design themes for the four 2024 coins in the set are as follows:
- Illinois $1 Coin – featuring the steel plow
- Alabama $1 Coin – highlighting the Saturn V rocket
- Maine $1 Coin – showcasing the direct current defibrillator
- Missouri $1 Coin – honoring George Washington Carver
All four coins, struck at the U.S. Mint’s San Francisco facility, are housed together in a single protective lens.
Reverse proof coins from the U.S. Mint, like those in this set, feature brilliant, mirror-like designs paired with frosted backgrounds. This collectible finish is the inverse of regular proof coins, such as those in the standard 2024 American Innovation Proof Set released in July.

Ordering and Mintage
2024 American Innovation Reverse Proof Sets are available directly from the U.S. Mint through its online store dedicated to American Innovation products.
The Mint has set a mintage limit of 57,816 sets, with an initial household order limit of five.
Notably, this release is listed as the Mint’s final scheduled product for the year.
Good thing Kaiser that you only want to “see” one versus buy. As that would cost at least $455 at the going rate currently. Such a deal for $160 worth of silver. Just a 284% mark up/premium. That is a major Ouch IMO. Now, what’s crazy IMO is that back on June 2, 2011 when the US Mint had the press release for the 2010 dated, P Yosemite America the Beautiful 5oz coin, silver spot was at $37.22. silver would drop to $37.03 on drop day on June 9, 2011. The price, just $279.95 which seemed really expensive at the… Read more »
Indeed Cali, the Mint’s viral price escalation without any real benefit made no longer buying easy. But, as silver Flowing H made them alot o $ more will follow. $3,640 obviously too cheap for 1z Au FOMO trinkets, gotta go $2k over spot now. I can afford the new prices, I choose not to. The premiums are huge, especially Pd
That’s the great thing about collectors…we have a choice to buy or not to buy.
I’m glad I have all of the 5 oz. coins, some in multiples, because the pricing currently is prohibitive for collecting said beauties.
CaliSkier,
Thank you for that break down. Just incredible! :-O

Sadly ive had to stop buying sets, like this, annual proof sets and the eagle dollars to justify me getting morgan and peace dollars…. hence the money saving on those justifies the purchases of coins in my mind….. the mints lost most of my business now….not that they care
Yesterday, Kaiser Wilhelm remarked, Not all that long ago it seemed that the value of silver would never go above $25 an ounce. Now that it’s passed that spot price by seven dollars perhaps the sky’s the limit. Silver is indeed having a good year in 2024. Silver spot price YTD gain = 33.8% and gold spot price YTD gain = 31.7% (source: APMEX). The silver and gold price YTD % change (Jan 1 – Dec 11, 2024) compares favorably with the NASDAQ = 33.5%, S&P 500 = 27.6% and DJI = 17.1% (source: CNBC). So much for the typical… Read more »
KCSO, Rick, Craig and any others that will be bidding tomorrow for one or more of the 230 Privy FHG’s, I wish you ALL the very best! I truly hope you fellows are lucky and get what you want at a price you want! I feel if you’re bidding on the “right” one, you could not only get lucky getting it but at a real good price! If that scenario happens, I hope it happens with one or more of you guys! I will NOT be participating in the Auction tomorrow but I’ll be very excited for you ALL. If… Read more »
AKBob,
You’re a very generous and genuine person and it shows!
Congrats on 3 FHG, I think they’re winners!
I’m seeking a FHG Privy for my collection with the hope that it holds its value long term–to be determined!?
I’ll be capped out at a certain price point today, especially since I broke the bank a couple of weeks ago on a single coin, a Kennedy. I’ll need to temper the FOMO factor on this shiny trinket!
More later!
AKBob, It’s always a pleasure to hear from my friend up in Alaska. I’m currently the winner of the coin I’m bidding on, but the auction hasn’t started yet. Lol. Like you I’ve already spent a good chunk of money on house improvement projects so I have limit of what I’m willing to spend on one of these privies. They’ll probably go for insane prices and I will be left empty handed once again. Oh well, there’s always a list of things I actually need to buy. The auction will be fun regardless of who wins each! Best wishes to… Read more »

Thanks for posting the numbers. I haven’t purchased a modern commemorative in years. If and when I do, it will be on the secondary market for much less than the mints issue price.
Oh My, $340K current bid for Au FH privy #1! Will it go for over $500K?
440k for #1 FHG

Sharks2th, My guesstimate weeks ago was $500K! I know many on here thot I was a tad to high in my guesstimate. Turns out I was only high by a little bit. What’s $60K anyways, lol! Looks like the 70’s are selling around $35K – $38K. That seems reasonable to me. The 69’s however are going for a lot more than I thot they would have, most are selling for $25K + or – which to me is way toooo much. It’ll be interesting to see how much these sell for once we get to Number 150 + and higher.… Read more »
The 69s will most likely drop in relative price over time. Look at the prices of classic rarities and you can work out where these should end up after the opening frenzy dies out in a few years. There are lots of coins in many series from the 1800s with mintages in the hundreds going for less than these modems.
