The Perth Mint concluded 2024 with mixed results for its Australian bullion sales, reflecting broader trends in precious metals markets. Gold sales faced significant declines in both December and throughout the year, while silver sales, boosted by a solid December and a few of other more steady months, posted an annual drop that was less pronounced than gold’s.
The Mint’s performance unfolded against fluctuating precious metal prices. In December, LBMA prices (USD) fell 1.6% for gold and 4% for silver. Over the course of the year, however, gold prices surged by 26.5%, with silver prices rising 23.8%.
December and Annual 2024 Perth Mint Gold Bullion Sales
The Perth Mint recorded gold coin and bar sales of 31,727 ounces in December, a 45.4% decline from November and 12.6% lower than December 2023.
For the year, gold bullion sales totaled 391,606 ounces in 2024. A comparison of annual sales highlights the following changes:
- 41.2% lower than 665,889 ounces in 2023
- 64.9% lower than 1,116,969 ounces in 2022
- 62.7% lower than 1,050,242 ounces in 2021
- 49.7% lower than 778,797 ounces in 2020
- 0.6% higher than 389,463 ounces in 2019
- 2.6% lower than 402,049 ounces in 2018
- 7.2% higher than 365,410 ounces in 2017
- 24.7% lower than 520,295 ounces in 2016

December and Annual 2024 Perth Mint Silver Bullion Sales
In December, silver bullion sales at The Perth Mint reached 1,057,311 ounces, reflecting a slight increase of 0.2% from November and a significant 55.2% jump compared to December 2023.
Neil Vance, General Manager of Minted Products at The Perth Mint, noted continued strong interest in the 2025 Australian Kangaroo bullion series, which debuted in November, with silver sales playing a key role in December’s performance.
"The Perth Mint’s kangaroo coins and bullion are famous around the world. It’s always a pleasure to see how warmly they are received by collectors and investors," Vance commented.
For the full year, silver bullion sales totaled 9,813,384 ounces in 2024. Annual comparisons reveal:
- 34.1% lower than 14,896,564 ounces in 2023
- 57.7% lower than 23,176,142 ounces in 2022
- 48.6% lower than 19,091,681 ounces in 2021
- 40.4% lower than 16,452,490 ounces in 2020
- 15.2% lower than 11,573,602 ounces in 2019
- 6.2% higher than 9,243,058 ounces in 2018
- 1.8% higher than 9,636,408 ounces in 2017
- 19.8% lower than 12,236,766 ounces in 2016
- 15.4% lower than 11,595,504 ounces in 2015
- 29.7% higher than 7,567,467 ounces in 2014
