There was not a lot of excitement in the latest series of US Mint weekly sales, coin news articles on the subject revealed.
The biggest "winners" over the reported 7-day periods were bullion eagle coins, namely American Silver Eagles and American Gold Eagles. These eagle coins improved over their prior weekly sales, with the exception of the 1/4 oz gold size which remained the same and therefore came in with a zero weekly gain.
Prior Weekly Increase | Weekly Increase | |
American Gold Bullion Eagle (1 oz) | 12,500 | 16,000 |
American Gold Bullion Eagle (1/2 oz) | 0 | 4,000 |
American Gold Bullion Eagle (1/4 oz) | 10,000 | 0 |
American Gold Bullion Eagle (1/10 oz) | 5,000 | 10,000 |
American Silver Bullion Eagle (1 oz) | 652,500 | 697,500 |
March 2011 sales totals for each of the bullion coins should be available shortly. Unless there are serious improvements, however, it appears that all but one of eagle coins will register monthly totals which are below February 2011. Ironically, the 1/4 oz Gold Eagle which registered zero sales recently shows a current March total of 20,000 as compared to February when 16,000 were sold. It may be the only eagle coin to outperform.
