Dallas, TX. Bidding described as "astronomical," "incredible," "feverish," and "stunning" greeted the long awaited Large Cent Collection of Walter Husak at Heritage's Official Auction of the February 14-16, 2008 Long Beach Coin Expo.

1838-O 50C PR63 Branch Mint PCGS. CAC. JR-1, R.7.

Prices Realized from the Husak consignment exceeded $10.7 million, and another $4.6 million from the Southwest Collection, with these two incredible consignments (out of 220 consignors) accounting for half of the proceeds.

After adding proceeds from the Token and Medal session, the Final Session Auction and all Post Auction Buys, the total prices realized are expected to exceed $25 million.

Like the Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea golden dollars, Presidential $1 coins face a daunting and nearly impossible task of competing with the one dollar bill.

Regardless of the historical and interesting aspects of any dollar coin, handling and using paper bills in every day life is simply too convenient. When it comes to the dollar, most people want to use and receive paper in transactions, not coin.

Royal Canadian Mint Releases Olympic Snowboarding 25-Cent Coin into Circulation

Today, Feb. 20, 2008, the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) announced the release of the first circulating 25-cent Olympic coin of 2008. The quarter-dollar showcases the sport of snowboarding and is the sixth released in a series of seventeen circulating coins commemorating the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The Royal Canadian Mint Launches First Olympic 25-Cent Circulation Coin of 2008 featuring the sport of snowboarding.

Up to 22 million of the snowboarding coins are expected to enter circulation. In addition to receiving the coins in daily change, the 25-cent coins are available through RBC, a Premier National Partner, and participating gas stations of Petro-Canada, a National Partner of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
